I applaud you, sir. This had to be one of the funniest and most amusing Spike-centered stories I've read in a while. For the most part, I think it's pretty much spot on with his characterization in the show as well. Overly vivid imagination due to being a baby dragon. Every single time you jumped back to the private-eye character, I couldn't help but smile all the way through.
Your style is great and this might just be because the story itself grasped my attention throughout, but I've hardly found any noticeable errors, either. Altogether, a really great job on this one, I hope to see more from you! Also, lemme congratulate you on that EqD feature, you most certainly deserved it!
This was fun to read- kind of reminds me of Pinkie's 'Detective Noir' mode in Sparkle's Law. Was that the inspiration? If not, you should totally go and read that.

I remember the exact C&H comic that inspired this story. You captured Calvin's fantasy through Spike very well. The only problem was that I knew exactly how it ended since it followed the same plot. Anyways, good job.

anyway, this is a good idea. I like it.
Very nice fic however I wish it had more attention because this piece deserves it. ^^ The only thing I was confused on when Twilight walked up the stairs to get Spike (I assumed he was in her bedroom sleeping. Then later on, in the italics you have the two of them entering the library's front door. The only way I could picture this working is if Spike had his own house/ at a sleepover. This was my only issue I had with this. :)
