Silly Coleopter, your a military leader not a political one. Thorax is perfect to be a politician. I also believe the chest diamonds are a male changeling thing, in most animals the male is the flashy one, and we say other lings have them. Oh and if the MLP mobile app is any indication of cannon, not all lings have wings, the Changeling Sentry character has neither wings or a tail. Some also seem to now lack horns, bet those lings are confused now.

Well not as much but I expect personal image is important to changelings in seeing them selves as individuals, the default shape is "them" anything else is just a disguise.

This is actually a very fair assessment of Thorax, honestly. He's by no means perfect, and his gentle heart does leave him as a bit of a softy...but being a softy doesn't necessarily have to be a bad thing, as you pretty much demonstrate here. It's his selflessness that is Thorax's biggest trait though, the one that sets him apart from the rest, and is indeed why he makes for the ideal leader--he'll put the needs of his kind above his own more often than not. If only we have more world leaders that were willing to do that.
