It's a little confusing because he drives four or five chargers over the course of the series.
The original "nine seconds flat" car was put together from pieces of at least a 69 and 70 Charger. You can tell because the tail panel isn't from the same year as the grille.
Fun fact: the engine wasn't a 426 Hemi, either - the distributor is in the wrong place, so it's likely a Gen 1 Hemi.
