A tea party! No?
Yup. More blood. Tears. Screaming. and Quiet.
Then more tears as Tarnished tries to figure out if Dig Dag was right about ponies not caring for the indigenous creatures that are in their way and how that feeds into the whole removing of Poison Joke, etc.
I sense some serious brain time for Tarnished once the blood stops flowing.
7464163 "Look you stupid bastard, you've no arms left!"
"Yes I have!"
"Look!"
"...It's just a flesh wound!"
Rampage! *in Archer's voice*
Hmmm, if one of the Princesses had already been there it might have gone better, Dig Dag could have negotiated without losing face.

"Come back here! I'll bite your bloody kneecaps off! COWARD!"
Daaaaang. Octavia really is something when she pulls her background out. I have no doubt she could do what she threatened, too.
I liked Tarnish's musing on having a sword that doesn't like blood.
After many generations of the survivors' descendants retelling the story of this night around their campfires, an interesting legend is noted in Diamond Dog lore; the story of the four horselings of the apocalypse.
Think the other dogs will give their leader

... a hand?
Will they act immediately, or

...paws a moment?
Things are looking bad, no matter

That Flamingo is always setting villains

You clever bastard you!
I've read stories where Luna has the whole "kill them all" style of defense and it's portrayed as wrong. This though, is the sort of example that validates that kind of fighting. These dogs have been around for over a thousand years and have made no improvements save for excluding one species from their list of slaves. And this wasn't even for any moral reason, it was purely pragmatic as a way to avoid unwelcome attention from greater powers.
I know forgiveness and mercy are supposed to be big things in this fictional world but committing the same (remarkably cruel) crimes 1000 years in a row? Even after being explicitly shown what it's like to bend to a greater power? Any practical ruler would at least be tempted to resolve this permanently, seeing as the dogs cannot be reasoned with. Tradition is an awful excuse to make others miserable.

Then again, the Princesses don´t seem to have been doing anything to improve the living or moral standards of their non- equine subjects (technically DD and the other races living in equestria count as "subjects"), other than "If you eat/enslave/hurt my ponies, we will come to kick your asses". And Dig Dag is right in that they don´t usually interviene when the non-ponies are the aggrieved part.

This is a half truth though.
I can say that, as the writer, had Celestia known about this pack of diamond dogs hidden away in the wilds, something would have been done about them. That's the advantage of living in the deep wilds and not preying on ponies so you can keep a low profile. You become invisible.
So much for the right to bear arms...
7464565
Those arms are still bare.
7464571 Dig Dag won't be very handy in the coming fight
Tis only a flesh wound
Also, BUCKING CLIFFHANGERS!!! Every time I don't expect them.
Also think I'm falling for British accents
7464642
That philosophical exchange stumped him.
You know, I doubt Dig Dag will be top dog for much longer after this if the pack survives. Without any arms, any decently sized and strong Diamond Dog wanting to take his place easily could.
For you, good sirs.

Thank you

Fun fact: That blow to the helmet left John Cleese severely concussed.
There were a lot of real injuries in that film. There was much peril to be had.
7464453
A fair point. I've never heard of them doing any such thing either. Even so, this type of behavior from the dogs is indicative of a relapse the moment the dogs think they can get away with it. Dig Dag specifically mentions that slavery is their "way of life" and thus their behavior is unlikely to change in the future without major political action (which apparently they aren't bright enough to have).
Even if the dogs aren't a direct threat at the moment, it surprises me that this kind of behavior is tolerated by the princesses. Perhaps they simply haven't had the time or resources to lead a coordinated purge of their territories but I would imagine that it at least deserves a spot on their to do list.

As stated earlier:
It is nearly impossible to bring forth proper justice in tribal frontier territory,ie west Pakistan/ east Afghanistan. It would help if the crown would accept specific regions for individual tribes and advocate free movement and recognition amongst the species. That actually worked in the 1930-50's Afghanistan until the Reds moved in during a political cue.
Missing a quotation mark.
Also, vulger and gritty Tavi is best Tavi I feel like she would be fun to hang around, haha.
Seems like this arguement got a little... out of hand.
? = of
Tarnish is about to open a can of dog food, the diamonds being the food!
7464433 I will destroy you and all you hold dear.
so many puns used in making this chapter
7464171
Your comment is super sus.......
I was thinking the exact same thing
7464171
Given the context of 'Over a Barrel', he does have a bit of a point. While it was mostly the mane 6's actions that actually pushed it into an open conflict, the Appleoosians didn't exactly consult with the buffalo before building their town, or planting an orchard across their stampeding grounds.
Doesn't excuse him for being a hypocritical slaver though.
7466866
One of the episodes I thought about and focused upon before writing this, actually.
7464163
If you don't mind the crimson tea.
Oh man the puns in the coment section are getting out hand. I know bad joke is bad.
Also don't worry Dig Dag

I think there's a pun here, but I can't put my finger on it...
Impressive. Most bipedal beings who can't casually regrow arms/don't have multiple spare limbs would be more focused on the whole "Oh god my arms I can see my arms on the ground oh god this hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts so much is that my blood? oh god that's my blood going all over the ground it hurts!", rather than having the presence of mind to deliver an entire command and describe a bit of their history and a possible return to it.
Also, every diamond dog here is going to die. Just saying-there's too much damn plot armor here for any of the ponies to die-maybe get hurt, maybe put out of action, but actually die? Unlikely, and even as a twist it'd feel kind of out of left field.
7465314
Whoops, didn't notice that for some reason. Never mind!
who wants to take a bet? 100 bits says that there are badgers kind slaves under ponies in some sweatshop somewhere. 50 says that the ponies would be charged with animal cruelty because badgers kind are technically not recognised as sentient citizens.
7464916 All of these puns will have your readers up in arms..
The Driamond Dogs had a fire. Vinyl now has an unusually powerful ring of elemental authority.
Mass Fireball, anyone?
...*facedesk*
He we go again, and this time, i feel it will be worse.
Diamond Dogs such as Dig Dag need to die before peace can be possible. I suspect the might the Diamond Dogs had was mostly obtained by slavery.
