Part of a series of companion fics to each of the "Fiendship is Magic" comics.
Fiendship is Magic #2 Fanfic (Tirek) : Madness for Power
Fiendship is Magic #3 Fanfic (Sirens) : Music Wars
Fiendship is Magic #4 Fanfic (Nightmare Moon) : For the Love of a Nightmare
Fiendship is Magic #5 Fanfic (Chrysalis) : The Need for Change

As Sombra pens the final words in his diary, the pony sisters descend upon the kingdom, and the shadow king prepares to meet them. Ascending to the throne room from his study, Sombra reflects on his plans, his feelings now, and the final fear he shall instill in the crystal ponies that will endure in them for a thousand years and beyond!

The thousand years passes, Sombra is defeated, and whatever is left of the shadow king reflects on his fall at the hooves of Twilight and others while he waits...and waits...and waits...for the inevitable defeat of light by darkness.

And back in the past, just after the Crystal Empire's banishment, Celestia and Luna tearfully try to come to terms with Sombra's curse and how the news will affect Radiant Hope. Luna in particular does her best to make sense of the madness.

This was an enjoyable read. I loved how you drew the parallels between Luna and Sombra by basically having her relate. Also I noticed you threw in a bit about the eastern unicorns mentioned in the premiere with where Hope could go study. I think this was a nice follow up to the comic, which despite me having mixed feelings about, undoubtly had an interesting premise for Sombra. Anyways, nice job. It'd be fun if you did do a follow up for each "Fiendship" entry.

5833478 Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed it  I think I'd really like to try doing these for the other comics. Luckily, it looks like they're all getting released one a week for the rest of the month instead of once a month like with the other MLP series, so at least they'll be available pretty quickly to work with.

5833302 Yeah, I know it got a little dark :twilightsheepish: I hope it was still enjoyable though.

5834187 Thank you, I'm very glad you enjoyed it and thought it worked well with the comic  I'm really looking forward to what they're going to give us with the other villains for the rest of the series. As long as I get an idea I like, I'll try to do companion fic in the same week each new issue comes out. I think Tirek is up next (and that it's getting released tomorrow :yay:).

“And frankly, as I have said from the start, I did not agree with Amore’s approach of not revealing the truth to him herself as soon as she realized the situation. Perhaps all of this could have been prevented if she had.”

Apathetic Princess Syndrome is the literal worst. I hate when powerful beings with the means to stop any coming chaos step aside and allow things to run their course until it's too late... But I do have my own headcanon that Amore's family had been using the Crystal Heart to capture Umbrum and seal them under the Empire to make sure they didn't do anything, and that Amore hadn't done anything because she believed he could be saved, but then again, it is just a headcanon.

As for your story, I liked it. Your protrayal of Sombra seemed pretty spot-on from what we've seen in the show and comics, He's prideful, and yet it shows a sense of vulnerability when he brings up Hope, which was a nice touch. Very good.

5891112 I could absolutely see that being the case with Amore—her family being in charge of keeping the Umbra at bay, which would put her in an awkward position with Sombra. With what Luna says, I didn’t mean to imply that she thinks Amore should have nipped the Sombra thing in the bud by banishing him too so much as that she thinks Amore should have explained to Sombra about his true nature and worked with him and Hope to overcome it instead of just letting things play out for the sake of having him make his choice about his future entirely on his own. In a way, it really was cruel of her to let him suffer under all of that confusion, and she really was taking a gamble that could have (and did) hurt her subjects. I mean, Celestia used to bother me sometimes with how she would just send Twilight (and the girls) into ‘battle’ to kind of figure out how to beat enemies on their own. But at least Celestia gives hints and a few heads ups. Amore brought apathetic princess syndrome to an entirely new level.

Thank you, I’m glad you enjoyed Sombra’s portrayal. I was really happy we got to see more of his character in this comic, especially since I’m not sure if we’ll ever see anything about him again in the show (and he really is possibly the darkest villain we’ve gotten). And thank you for adding my story to the Sombra group!

I loved the Nightmare Moon foreshadowing and Luna relating to Sombra. Calling out Amore's bullshit was just kind of an icing on the cake.

The Sombra sections were suitable dark and intimidating, That guy is one hell of a badass villain though, as someone who has not read the comic in question I have to ask just what Sombra's plans for Twilight are. Is that referencing something that happens in the comic or are you hinting at something else?

Anyway great story, have a like and a favorite.

Hi! Thank you so much, I’m glad you liked the story. I really had fun writing this one and trying to work out Sombra’s mentality. As for his slight obsession with Twilight, it comes from how well she handles using dark magic in this issue (and in the show). In the comic, Cadance wants to explore Sombra’s dark-magic castle area but says she can’t maintain the dark magic spell to do it and that it gives her a headache. But Twilight easily does it for her and says she never gets a headache while doing it. And in the show we see Twilight learn how to use dark magic easily and wield it without issue too. It makes me think that because Twilight is the element of magic, she’s just as capable of using it to spread evil as she of using it to spread good. So Sombra might wish he was strong enough to corrupt her because he knows how useful she would be to him (and it kind of harkens back to the story of his own corruption in the comic).

Thanks for the like and the favorite!

I'm sorry I can't take Sombras face seriously he looks so salty:rainbowlaugh::rainbowlaugh:

“Prepare, Sombra!”

Since it's long ago. Shouldn't Celestia speak like Luna?
She was banished around 1000 before too.

I guess it's more familiar ;)

It just reads like Sombras thoughts! Love it.
But not too much... Don't want to get shattered
