Golden Paw

T

Twilight seeks a cure to a curse that turns ponies into living stone, the dark magic that caused this affliction is beyond any of the princess' power to mend and so Twilight sets out to try and discover anything that can help.

Her travels bring her to a forgotten corner of the world where a powerful guardian watches over a mysterious artifact of potential for either good or evil. Does she have the mental fortitude to allow her to gain the knowledge Twilight seeks? Who is this protector that stands sentinel?

(This short story is written for "Most Dangerous game contest" for the OC alicorn entry, i normally wouldn't touch the idea of OC alicorns, but made an exception for this, enjoy)

Art work pending.

4538257 Eyup, I wanted to get all the admin stuff out the way. Hope to add the cover art before the 27th

It's interesting to consider the NPC in another's quest. You offer your line, you let them pass, they are subject to the trials of worth, they depart for the next step on the path... and then what happens to you?

An enjoyable piece. Somber in tone, but ending on a brighter, more hopeful note. That said, I'd recommend changing the description; it doesn't matter what Twilight's there to do. All that matters are the guardian, the charge, the duty, and the quester.

In any case, thank you for this, and good luck in the contest.

4538483 Thanks so much for the feed back, I'l take a good look at the description and see what can be tweaked :pinkiehappy:

That was excellent. EDIT: It feels like so many stories could be built around Vigil: Twilight's story involving the petrification of ponies; the story of her quest after meeting Vigil; occasional visits on her part to talk to Vigil (because friendship is Twilight's schtick;) the stories surrounding each and every one of those that failed to measure up to Vigil or his ward; the stories of those who came closest, or those who may have even challenged Vigil; the story of the long-forgotten location when it thrived; and more. I hope this story inspires these sorts of spinoffs on someone's part. Also, if BronyWriter reads this story, non-canon bonus chapter idea for "Wanderings": TD seeks out Vigil.

4560748 Cheers, you have spotted me darn it: I was thinking that very idea as I wrote the story and clues about the way it may be going are within some of my other tails I have written from which I was hoping to build from with this idea. So after a long half asleep ramble about it, thanks so much for the feed back :yay:

4538483 Thanks again for the feed back, it has inspired me to try something different and such I have reworked my short description aiming to make it a little more mysterious and enticing. Will it work? I have no idea, but hey these entries are a chance to test out new ideas, Thanks again and good luck in the comp! :pinkiehappy:

4603720 Cheers! Will fix it now! :derpyderp1:

I'm very pleased you didn't reveal what Twilight found. A lesser author wouldn't be willing to withhold information that tantalizing. :)

4609514 Thanks so much, it was an idea I played with but erred on the side of staying mysterious. So glad you enjoyed the read

Again one of those gems that should have far more views and likes.
Vigil is a powerful character and his interaction with a seasoned princess Twilight feels very real and conjures up the imagery of the scene quite nicely.
Describing what Twilight found would likely have ruined the story as it would have broken the mood and flow.
Good choice, good job.
Have a fav.

I just listened to Scribbler's reading. It was a good story and one I wished was expanded upon. I'm sure I'm not the only reader who is eager to learn what it is Vigil is guarding. Had to admit, with the DARK tag, I expected him to break his vows and take a peak, thereby having something horrible happen to him. But I guess that would have been GrimDark.

I come from ObabScribbler’s video! And I must ask: have you chronicled Twilight’s quest portrayed in this fic? I actually really want to see if she succeeded.
