Nightmares can manifest from anything. A lie you told. A thing you stole. No matter what causes your nightmare, Princess Luna will be there. To rid you of the thing you fear, and teach you to control it before it consumes you... like it did her.

A minor accident at Sweet Apple Acres sends Big Macintosh to Ponyville in the middle of applebuck season. At first, things seem fine. But then some of the mares begin acting a little...oddly.

Four days after the defeat of "Nightmare Moon" and Luna's arrival in Canterlot, freshly-promoted Lieutenant Captain Shining Armor starts his new role as the commanding officer of the nighttime "Luna Shift".

But there are enemies everywhere. The emotional and psychological demons that pulled Princess Luna into evil one thousand years ago threaten to do so again. The Canterlot elite show a surprising degree of apathy regarding Luna or her problems. And there is also a danger within the Royal Guard itself - mavericks that would gladly derail Luna's rehabilitation and ruin Shining Armor's reputation to satisfy their own selfish desires.

Smiling, carefree parasprites now roam the gilded corridors of Canterlot Castle, and not a single pony can be found. Celestia and Luna have temporarily abandoned and quarantined the premises, staying elsewhere while they argue over the best method to go about removing the adorable trash that has infested their home. Unfortunately, parasprites are not the only intrusive thing that have now taken up a presence in the castle during the sisters' brief absence.

Inexplicably teleported in from the sheer amount of valuable possessions being left unguarded, the Norsemen have arrived.
