Love Under the Moonlight

by SerenaTheMoonPony

Starry Night

It was a beautiful evening in the magical land of Equestria; the sky was clear, meaning the sparkling stars that illuminated the night were perfectly visible. There was also a full-moon out tonight, which complemented the night sky even more.-At least that's what the two alicorn mares resting on a cloud gazing upon said sky thought.

"It truly is a lovely night tonight, per usual" The smaller lavender mare remarked.
"Why thank-you, Twilight" The slightly larger cobalt blue mare replied.
"I love stargazing with you, Luna" Twilight exclaimed.
"As do I, my dear" Luna replied.

Though she may not be showing it, Princess Luna was indeed quite nervous on this particular night. She and Twilight had been dating for quite sometime-since her first Nightmare Night that she spent in Ponyville- and the lunar princess finally wanted to 'pop the question' as they say.

Nopony even knew of the two princesses being in a romantic relationship. The two had often discussed marriage on multiple occasions; it was indeed something they both desired. The idea of making their relationship public to everypony was another conversation they had countless times before as well.

It wasn't so much the reactions of their friends and families that worried them-even if Twilight Velvet and Night Light were...erm...'old fashioned' ponies who were very much against same-sex marriage-; it was mostly the reaction of everypony else in Equestria that they really dreaded the most.

After a good fifteen minutes of silence and attempting to find her courage, Princess Luna finally broke the silence.

"Twilight, you know I love you more than anything, right?" She asked.
"Of course I do. And you know that the feeling is completely mutual, right? Because I love you so much Luna I'm not even sure I know how to describe it" Twilight replied. At the same time, Luna smiled and kissed her marefriend passionately. Before continuing with her plan, she quietly sighed in relief.
"I guess what I'm trying to say is; Twilight, I love you with all my heart and soul. I don't even want to try and imagine what my life would be like without you a part of it. So, Twilight Sparkle, will you do me the greatest honor of making me the happiest mare alive by becoming my wife?" Luna asked as she pulled out a dark blue ring box in which there was a beautiful silver ring with a pink diamond.

Twilight couldn't even believe what just happened; Luna had just proposed to her! She had always said that she would one day make her hers. All Twilight could do in that instant was embrace the love of her life before saying:

"Yes. A million times yes, my love"
"I love you, Twilight" Luna said, placing the ring one her fiancé's horn.
"And I love you, Luna" She replied.
"You've just made me the happiest mare in all of Equestria" Luna exclaimed as she kissed her lover. After breaking away from the kiss, Luna noticed the distress in Twilight's face.
"What's the matter, love?" She asked.
"It's nothing, really...It's just I realize that we may have to tell my parents about us..." She replied. Luna draped a wing over the lavender alicorn.
"Oh Twilight, you needn't worry about that right now besides, when the time comes that we must cross that bridge, we will cross it together. I will be right there with you every step of the way, I promise. But for now, let's not focus on that and just enjoy the rest of our evening together" She said as she kissed Twilight once more.

After a good couple hours, Twilight had fallen asleep leaning against the night goddess, making her smile fondly at the sight. It was just so darn cute! The older princess then brought her fiancé to her new castle and set her comfortably in her bed.
As she was about to make her way out, Princess Luna felt a hoof keep her in place.

"Please stay with me tonight, Luna" Twilight begged, half-asleep.
"Of course, Twilight" Luna smiled as she sat herself up on Twilight's bed.

Eventually Twilight fell asleep in her lover's embrace. Luna ended up eventually falling asleep with her legs wrapped around the princess of friendship; holding her close.

As the princess drifted to sleep, she thought about how she and her special somepony met; sure it was under dark circumstances- with her being possessed by Nightmare Moon at the time- but in the end, Twilight and her friends had saved her from herself, for which she was eternally grateful.

She smiled at the memory of asking Celestia to teach her how to send scrolls via magic to Twilight. Her sister had questioned her reasons for writing to her student, but Luna simply said she wanted to thank her for what she did.

They had sent each other multiple letters throughout all of that time; up until Nightmare Night when Luna finally confessed her developing feelings towards her. Turns out, Twilight felt the same way and so they started dating in secret; nopony was ever aware.

The centuries old alicorn always knew she was interested in mares, but considering the era in which she grew up in, she never told anypony-not even her sister- out of fear.

She had heard plenty of stories of ponies who were...how did the ponies call it nowadays? 'Filly-foolers' and 'colt-cuddlers'? who had been forcibly exiled from cities and fled to the badlands. She had had a few friends who were fighting for equal rights for same-sex marriage.

As a matter of fact, Luna herself even joined their cause. When asked about it by her sister, she simply said it was a cause she firmly believed it and that she wanted those ponies to find happiness with their partners regardless of their sexuality.

Her sister was probably going to kill her when she is to find out about her and Twilight's engagement. Not because she is to marry a mare,-Celestia never had a problem with 'filly-foolers' or 'colt-cuddlers' as far as Luna could tell- but because Luna never told her that she and the princess of friendship were even dating! Sadly, the princess of the night knew that wasn't the case with Twilight's parents.

Twilight Velvet and Night Light are very...old-fashioned to say the least. From what Twilight had told her about them, her mother had even disowned her own sister for being a 'filly-fooler'. Luna could understand her fear of announcing their engagement to them.

According to her 'adorkable' fiancé, her older brother; Shining Armor was the complete opposite of their parents; he was quite accepting of that sort of thing seeing as some of his best friends happen to be 'colt-cuddlers'-not to mention the fact that his wife would most likely kick his flank if he was homophobic.

The princess of the night's thoughts then returned to the idea of making their engagement public; like it or not, they were both technically royalty meaning their wedding will most likely be as big-if not bigger- than Cadence and Shining Armor's wedding, so they really almost had no choice in making their engagement public.

Deciding not to trail on that thought for much longer, Luna finally allowed herself to fall into her dreamscape and go to sleep. For once in her entire life, she was actually genuinely happy. Though she couldn't shake off the feeling that the upcoming day would be most interesting...
