Starry Night

View Online

It was a beautiful evening in the magical land of Equestria; the sky was clear, meaning the sparkling stars that illuminated the night were perfectly visible. There was also a full-moon out tonight, which complemented the night sky even more.-At least that's what the two alicorn mares resting on a cloud gazing upon said sky thought.

"It truly is a lovely night tonight, per usual" The smaller lavender mare remarked.

"Why thank-you, Twilight" The slightly larger cobalt blue mare replied.

"I love stargazing with you, Luna" Twilight exclaimed.

"As do I, my dear" Luna replied.

Though she may not be showing it, Princess Luna was indeed quite nervous on this particular night. She and Twilight had been dating for quite sometime-since her first Nightmare Night that she spent in Ponyville- and the lunar princess finally wanted to 'pop the question' as they say.

Nopony even knew of the two princesses being in a romantic relationship. The two had often discussed marriage on multiple occasions; it was indeed something they both desired. The idea of making their relationship public to everypony was another conversation they had countless times before as well.

It wasn't so much the reactions of their friends and families that worried them-even if Twilight Velvet and Night Light were...erm...'old fashioned' ponies who were very much against same-sex marriage-; it was mostly the reaction of everypony else in Equestria that they really dreaded the most.

After a good fifteen minutes of silence and attempting to find her courage, Princess Luna finally broke the silence.

"Twilight, you know I love you more than anything, right?" She asked.

"Of course I do. And you know that the feeling is completely mutual, right? Because I love you so much Luna I'm not even sure I know how to describe it" Twilight replied. At the same time, Luna smiled and kissed her marefriend passionately. Before continuing with her plan, she quietly sighed in relief.

"I guess what I'm trying to say is; Twilight, I love you with all my heart and soul. I don't even want to try and imagine what my life would be like without you a part of it. So, Twilight Sparkle, will you do me the greatest honor of making me the happiest mare alive by becoming my wife?" Luna asked as she pulled out a dark blue ring box in which there was a beautiful silver ring with a pink diamond.

Twilight couldn't even believe what just happened; Luna had just proposed to her! She had always said that she would one day make her hers. All Twilight could do in that instant was embrace the love of her life before saying:

"Yes. A million times yes, my love"

"I love you, Twilight" Luna said, placing the ring one her fiancé's horn.

"And I love you, Luna" She replied.

"You've just made me the happiest mare in all of Equestria" Luna exclaimed as she kissed her lover. After breaking away from the kiss, Luna noticed the distress in Twilight's face.

"What's the matter, love?" She asked.

"It's nothing, really...It's just I realize that we may have to tell my parents about us..." She replied. Luna draped a wing over the lavender alicorn.

"Oh Twilight, you needn't worry about that right now besides, when the time comes that we must cross that bridge, we will cross it together. I will be right there with you every step of the way, I promise. But for now, let's not focus on that and just enjoy the rest of our evening together" She said as she kissed Twilight once more.

After a good couple hours, Twilight had fallen asleep leaning against the night goddess, making her smile fondly at the sight. It was just so darn cute! The older princess then brought her fiancé to her new castle and set her comfortably in her bed.

As she was about to make her way out, Princess Luna felt a hoof keep her in place.

"Please stay with me tonight, Luna" Twilight begged, half-asleep.

"Of course, Twilight" Luna smiled as she sat herself up on Twilight's bed.

Eventually Twilight fell asleep in her lover's embrace. Luna ended up eventually falling asleep with her legs wrapped around the princess of friendship; holding her close.

As the princess drifted to sleep, she thought about how she and her special somepony met; sure it was under dark circumstances- with her being possessed by Nightmare Moon at the time- but in the end, Twilight and her friends had saved her from herself, for which she was eternally grateful.

She smiled at the memory of asking Celestia to teach her how to send scrolls via magic to Twilight. Her sister had questioned her reasons for writing to her student, but Luna simply said she wanted to thank her for what she did.

They had sent each other multiple letters throughout all of that time; up until Nightmare Night when Luna finally confessed her developing feelings towards her. Turns out, Twilight felt the same way and so they started dating in secret; nopony was ever aware.

The centuries old alicorn always knew she was interested in mares, but considering the era in which she grew up in, she never told anypony-not even her sister- out of fear.

She had heard plenty of stories of ponies who were...how did the ponies call it nowadays? 'Filly-foolers' and 'colt-cuddlers'? who had been forcibly exiled from cities and fled to the badlands. She had had a few friends who were fighting for equal rights for same-sex marriage.

As a matter of fact, Luna herself even joined their cause. When asked about it by her sister, she simply said it was a cause she firmly believed it and that she wanted those ponies to find happiness with their partners regardless of their sexuality.

Her sister was probably going to kill her when she is to find out about her and Twilight's engagement. Not because she is to marry a mare,-Celestia never had a problem with 'filly-foolers' or 'colt-cuddlers' as far as Luna could tell- but because Luna never told her that she and the princess of friendship were even dating! Sadly, the princess of the night knew that wasn't the case with Twilight's parents.

Twilight Velvet and Night Light are very...old-fashioned to say the least. From what Twilight had told her about them, her mother had even disowned her own sister for being a 'filly-fooler'. Luna could understand her fear of announcing their engagement to them.

According to her 'adorkable' fiancé, her older brother; Shining Armor was the complete opposite of their parents; he was quite accepting of that sort of thing seeing as some of his best friends happen to be 'colt-cuddlers'-not to mention the fact that his wife would most likely kick his flank if he was homophobic.

The princess of the night's thoughts then returned to the idea of making their engagement public; like it or not, they were both technically royalty meaning their wedding will most likely be as big-if not bigger- than Cadence and Shining Armor's wedding, so they really almost had no choice in making their engagement public.

Deciding not to trail on that thought for much longer, Luna finally allowed herself to fall into her dreamscape and go to sleep. For once in her entire life, she was actually genuinely happy. Though she couldn't shake off the feeling that the upcoming day would be most interesting...

Busted?!

The following morning, Twilight's friends; Rarity, Applejack, Pinkie Pie, Fluttershy and Rainbow Dash decided to check up on their friend-who had told them she was planning on doing some research last night- and to confirm their plans for this afternoon.

When Spike told them that Twilight was actually still in bed, the couldn't believe their ears. It just was very unlike her to sleep in this late...

Meanwhile in Twilight's bedchambers, Luna and Twilight were still fast asleep; Twilight inside of Luna's warm and loving embrace.

Suddenly, there was a knock on the door followed by a voice calling out:

"Twilight? Are ya in there?" It was Applejack's voice, though neither Twilight or Luna heard her.

The two mares awoke in a fright to the sound of the door almost flying off it's hinges.-Thank-you, Rainbow Dash- Luna, who was still holding Twilight, quickly released her secret lover from her grasp.

"Huh...what in the hay is going on in here?" Rainbow inquired awkwardly.

"Umm...well, I was reading a book written in old Equestrian, so I asked Princess Luna if she could translate it for me. Then she stayed and helped me with my research" Twilight said.

"Okay, but that still doesn't answer why she's in your bed..." Rainbow Dash replied.

"Oh, that's because...huh..." Twilight didn't know what to tell her friends next. Luckily, Luna came up with something.

"I noticed that Twilight was sort of dozing off, so knowing that she wouldn't want to call it a night, I suggested that we bring some of the books here and finish our research up here so that way, if she falls asleep, she wont be sleeping in a chair" Twilight shot her a look of gratitude for saving her just there.

"If you don't mind my asking your highness, why were your legs wrapped around Twilight?" Rarity asked.

"Huh...that's actually a rather amusing tale...you see, I have this habit of wrapping my legs around a body pillow that I have in my room. I suppose I just forgot where I was; sorry about that Twilight" Luna explained.

"It's okay, princess" Twilight said, repressing a chuckle. She remembered the first time she and Luna slept in the same bed; Luna wrapped her legs around her that time as well, but Twilight didn't mind; she actually kind of enjoyed it.

"What about that pretty ring on your horn, Twi?" Pinkie Pie asked. Twilight gave Luna a 'just go with it' look as she nodded. Who knows what she was going to say.

"It's an...early birthday gift...from...from Cadence! Yeah, that's it. It came in the mail yesterday. I guess I just forgot I had it on...it's quite a lovely ring" She lied. She didn't like lying to her friends like that, but she just wasn't ready to tell them the truth just yet.

"It looks as if it was well preserved over the years. If I were to estimate it's age, I dare say it's older than my sister. I wonder where she got it..." Luna said.

"Really?" Twilight asked, amazed as she placed the ring back in it's box that just so happened to be on her nightstand.

"Alright. Well, we just came by to see if you were still up for our picnic this afternoon" Fluttershy said.

"Yep, I am. I will see you girls later; just let me get cleaned up and we can head out whenever" Twilight replied as her friends finally left her room, leaving her and her secret fiancé alone.

"Is it true what you said about the ring?" She asked.

"Yes, that ring is quite old; it was my mother's ring. She gave it to me a long time ago. I placed a preservation spell on it to keep it in good condition" Luna explained.

Twilight was awestruck. She could hardly believe what Luna had just told her. Seeing that she didn't know what to say, Luna simply pulled the mare into a tight embrace.

"Twilight, I gave you that ring because I know that I want to spend the rest of my life with you; I love you so much, Twilight" She said.

"I love you too, Luna" She replied, lightly kissing her lover. After a couple of moments, she broke off the kiss and said:

"I should go get ready; don't want to keep the girls waiting, but I will see you later?"

"Of course; see you this evening my love" She replied.

With a flash, Luna was gone, leaving Twilight alone. The princess of friendship decided to go ahead and hop into the shower real quick; seeing as her friends were waiting for her downstairs in the throne room. After drying herself off and fixing up her mane, Twilight went to the throne room and she and her friends headed out for their picnic.

Princess Luna, trying desperately to be as quiet and sneaky as possible, appeared a good four feet away from her bedroom door. Checking to see if Celestia was anywhere in sight, she quietly made her way to her room, tiptoeing every step of the way. Halfway down the hall, Luna came to a quick halt when she nearly crashed into her sister's hindquarters when she appeared right in front of her path.

"Ah, hello sister" Luna said, in a very poor attempt to make it seem as if she wasn't hiding anything.

"Luna, where in Equestria have you been? Did you even come home last night?" Her sister asked, going into 'worried-sick big sister' mode, in which Luna found somewhat annoying.

"Ah, well...huh...I was...huh...out...stargazing! Yeah! That's it! Stargazing! The sky was perfectly clear last night so I took advantage of the opportunity. And I didn't come home last night because Twilight Sparkle had found a ancient mysterious text, so she asked me to help her translate it. I guess we just lost track of time and fell asleep during our research." Luna said, silently praying that her sister wouldn't see through her lie.

"Oh, alright then. I'm glad you enjoyed yourself, sister. Now, if you will excuse me, I'm afraid I have a stack of paperwork that is only going to get larger..." Celestia excused herself.

"We most certainly did enjoy ourselves, sister. And have fun with your paperwork" Luna teased as she headed towards her chambers.

Once inside her room, Luna noticed a piece of parchment on her bed; it was a note from Celestia:

Luna,

I noticed that you've been taking off at night more than usual, is there something bothering you? I don't mean to intrude into your personal affairs, but if there's anything on your mind that you wish to talk about, I just want you to know I am always here for you and ready to listen. You seem a little...distracted over something. If you ever want to talk about whatever it is that's on your mind, you know where I am.

Your loving sister,

Tia

P.S: I don't really have any paperwork to do, so if you wish to speak now, I'm in my chambers

How did her sister do that? How did she know that there was something on her mind? She wanted to tell her sister about her and Twilight, but wasn't sure if she was ready, if her sister was ready, and; most importantly, if Twilight was ready to tell anypony. She sat on her bed and pondered on what she should do for at least a good twenty minutes.

Finally, Luna decided that she should at least talk to Twilight about it. Even if she could talk to her sister about their relationship without her finding out, but Luna didn't believe that was the right thing to do; she should discuss it with her first, it was just the proper thing to do.

So she took out her quill and some parchment as well as some ink. The two mares had established a sort of secret code-it was really just writing in old equestrian- so that if she had to read a letter in front of anypony, they wouldn't be able to tell what it said. She then began to write:

Dear Twilight,

I hast a humour that Celestia may be on to us; she knows thither is something on mine mind and wants to talk about it. I, f'r one wouldn't mind talking to mine sister about us, but I will not say aught without thy consent to doth so. We can betoken Celestia whenev'r thou're ready and I will not push thou into doing so. the choice is yours.

Sincerely yours,

Luna

Once her letter complete, she sent it to her -now- fiancé. She waited maybe five? Ten minutes? Before she got a reply. Reading the short reply, Luna couldn't help but smile; Twilight had given her consent for Luna to openly discuss their relationship with Celestia. With that, Luna headed towards her sister's room where Celestia was sitting on a magenta colored cushion, sipping on her tea, waiting for her.

"Hello, sister" The white alicorn greeted.

"Hello Celestia" Luna replied.

"Make yourself comfortable, Luna. Now, I am assuming there is something you'd like to discuss?" Celestia said as Luna took a seat on the purple cushion right beside her sister. Luna wasn't exactly sure how to go by this, but she was going to try.

"Huh...well...do you remember when I would join those protests with Lily and Shadow Knight?" Luna started.

"Yes, of course I remember. What's that got to do with anything?" She asked.

"Well, I haven't been truly honest about why I took part in those rallies..." The lunar princess trailed off, Celestia immediately catching on to what she was implying.

"Why didn't you ever tell me?" She asked in a calm and somewhat comforting tone.

"Because...because I was afraid, Celestia. You know how bad it was back then..." Luna replied, as Celestia hugged her little sister.

"I know, but you should have known that I would have accepted you no matter what, Luna. One question though; why do you bring this up now?" She asked.

"Huh...oh gosh, how do I put this? Sister, how would you feel if I told you I've been secretly dating somepony for a while now?" She asked.

This took Celestia slightly aback; was her sister dating somepony? And she never told her? Though she understood why Luna never said anything, she also felt a little hurt that her sister kept this a secret.

"I would be happy for you, but at the same time, slightly hurt that you didn't tell your own sister that you were seeing somepony..." She finally said after a few minutes of silence.

"Okay, and huh...how would you feel if...huh..." Luna trailed off, not too sure how to tell her sister about her and Twilight.

"What is it, Luna? You know you can tell me anything..." Celestia said as Luna sighed.

"Sister, me and Twilight have been secretly dating" She said, giving her sister a moment to process what she said.

"I should have known you two would end up dating; you are so alike!" Celestia remarked as she giggled. That somewhat reassured Luna a bit.

"That's where I really was last night; we went out stargazing and I brought her home when I noticed she was starting to doze off a bit. When I got her home, she asked me to stay with her, so that's why I didn't come home last night..." She explained.

"We didn't do anything! Jeez Celestia, get your mind out of the gutter..." Luna exclaimed, seeing her sister's scandalized expression.

"Whatever you and Twilight do in the bedroom is none of my business, sister..." The sun goddess replied.

"We didn't do anything!" Luna exclaimed once more.

"Whatever you say, sister" Celestia teased as she hugged her sister.

Once released from the hug, Luna stood up and began heading to the door. Before leaving, Luna mentioned:

"Oh, and sister, Twilight will be coming here this evening"

"Alright then," She replied.

"Oh and I forgot to mention, we sort of got engaged" Luna said as she sprinted out of her sister's room and back to hers. Celestia spat out her tea at her sister's words.

"What?! Luna!" Celestia exclaimed as she ran down the hall after her sister.

It didn't take Celestia long to catch up to her sister, passing multiple guards who simply gazed at the two sisters in slight confusion. Finally, Celestia lunged herself at Luna and the two mares tumbled down the hall until Celestia finally had her sister pinned under her.

"You have got some explaining do to" Celestia said making her sister cringe slightly. Oh boy...

This was going to be interesting...

The two mares, now sitting in Celestia's room once more-well, Luna was sitting on the purple cushion again, mending her front right hoof that her sister accidentally broke mid-tackle while Celestia was pacing around her room.

"When were you planning on telling me that you were GETTING MARRIED?!" Celestia asked, as calm as she could-which, just between us, wasn't very calm at all- Luna flinching at every word her sister spoke. Celestia truly was frightening sometimes...
"Huh..." Luna started, but was soon cut off by her sister's ranting.
"Seriously Luna? You decide to get married and you don't even tell me? I'm your sister for crying out loud! Heck, you didn't even tell me you two were even dating until earlier, and then you decide to drop your engagement on me like that. And then to boot, you decide to run; oh Luna, what a mistake that was. You know it would have been so much easier just to sit there and talk to me about this instead of running away like that...I'm really sorry about your hoof, sister" Celestia apologized, she felt horrible about breaking her sister's hoof, even if it was an accident.
"It's alright Tia, the healing spell is working, so it should be back to normal in no time! Besides, I can sort of understand your intentions..." Luna replied.
"Again, I'm so sorry about that...Now tell me more about this whole engagement thing; who proposed to who?" Celestia asked, almost as excited as a high school filly talking to her best friend about her first serious relationship.
"I proposed to her last evening with the ring mother gave me before she left...We were sitting on a cloud, looking at the stars. She thought it was really romantic" The lunar princess explained.
"I can't believe my little sister is engaged...and before me to boot!" Celestia exclaimed as Luna laughed.
"Your the only one who knows about this so far; we plan on telling the other elements sooner than later" The princess of the night said.
"What about her family?" The older alicorn asked as the younger one sighed.
"Twilight is...hesitant on telling her parents, and in all honesty from what I've been told; I can't really blame her, sister." Luna began explaining.
"Oh?" Celestia asked, quite intrigued even if she knew about Twilight's parents being homophobic; she just wanted to see if Luna truly cared for Twilight; a test of sorts if you will.
"It would appear that her parents are...so to say 'old fashioned'. From what she's told me about her foal-hood, her parents had reprimanded her for befriending a young filly who happened to have been gay, so she's been afraid to tell them ever since. And I can understand that fear; I was extremely nervous to even tell you about it just a while ago. I didn't know how you would react, but Twilight has an idea on how her folks are going to take the news. I told her that I will be right there beside her when she is ready to tell them" She replied as Celestia hugged her sister again.
"That's a relief" Celestia sighed much to her sister's confusion.
"Huh?" Luna asked.
"Luna, both you and Twilight are important ponies to me; I just wanted to be sure neither of you would get hurt. I've known about Night Light and Twilight Velvet's views on homosexuality for a very long time; they were part of the group of ponies who came storming in one day because I had allowed a filly who was gay-I presume it was the same filly Twilight told you about- to attend my school." Celestia explained.
"Oh" The moon goddess replied.
"I'm really happy for you, sister" Celestia said with a smile.
"Thanks, Tia" Luna thanked.

Twilight and her friends were sitting at their usual spot; a small hill in ponyville park, enjoying Pinkie Pie's cupcakes as they talked. Though Twilight's head was anywhere but Ponyville...

"Twilight? Twilight!" The sound of Rainbow Dash's voice brought the lavender alicorn back to reality.
"Huh?" She asked as if waking from a trance.
"Are you alright darling? You seem...distracted" Rarity asked.
"Oh, I'm fine. Really, just...have a lot on my mind; that's all" She replied with a slightly nervous grin.
"Are ya sure, Sugarcube? You don't seem fine..." Applejack asked.
"Really girls, I'm fine. Everything's fine..." She laughed nervously.
"If you say so Twi..." Rainbow said.

A short while later, the girls all parted ways. Twilight ran a couple errands-basically just buying some food and a few other things- before returning to her castle. After -mostly mentally- preparing herself, she took flight and headed to Canterlot.

Once there, Twilight found Luna in the hallway about five feet away from her room.

"Hello Twilight" She greeted.
"Luna, there's something I need to tell you; can we go somewhere...huh...private to talk?" She asked as the two made their way to Luna's room. Twilight then noticed that Luna was limping. Her curiosity getting the better of her, Twilight asked:
"Why are you limping?"
"Well, I may or may not have told Celestia we were engaged and I may have ran away from her; thus provoking her to tackle me..." She explained with a childish grin. Once inside Luna's bedroom, the two mares sat on the bed.
"Now, tell me what's plaguing you my dear" Luna said as Twilight leaned into her chest.
"Well, I went to see the doctor today-seeing as I haven't been feeling well lately- and...Luna, there's a chance that I might be pregnant"

What?!

"A-are you sure?" Luna asked, not sure how to react to this news.
"It's possible; we're just waiting on the test results now..." Twilight replied.
"But how?! When did we even...? Oh..." Luna said as her eyes widened in realization.
"I-I don't know how to respond to this..." Luna remarked.
"How do you think I felt when I found out?" Twilight replied.
"Nopony can find out about this...imagine the scandal that'll cause if I happen to actually be pregnant...before marriage and to two mares with high ranking to boot..." Twilight said in realization as Luna nodded in agreement.
"Fair point my love. Well, this has been quite the interesting few days hasn't it?" Luna chuckled as she hugged the love of her life within her wing.
"Tell me about it; first we get engaged and then there is a slight chance that we are going to be parents...what's next?! We go public? Honestly who knows at this point..." She replied.
"Did you want to go public? It doesn't matter to me, but if you want to, we can" Luna asked.
"I suppose we could, but we'd have to tell the girls first; it wouldn't feel right if they only found out when we go public" Twilight replied as the lunar princess nodded in agreement.
"What about your family Twilight?" She asked even if she would have preferred to not bring up that discussion.
"Well, Shining Armor and Cadence will be easy to talk to, mom and dad however...I'd honestly rather not tell them and let them figure it out, but it wouldn't be right of me to do that..." The lavender alicorn replied. Luna held her close. That's when she realized something.
"Well, I'm pretty sure my sister mentioned that Cadence and Shining Armor were coming to Canterlot for a visit tomorrow; how about we tell them and maybe they can help us a bit when it comes time to tell your parents?" She suggested.

She didn't want to rush Twilight into this, but she figured she could at least try to help her fiancé with it. Twilight pondered at the idea for a few minutes before finally saying:

"I suppose we could tell Shinny and Cadence to start. Maybe talk to the girls sometime after that?"
"If you want to, my love. I won't force you" Luna replied with a soft smile.
"I want to; they deserve to know. We can discuss telling my parents or not later" She said.
"Then it's settled" She said as she planted a soft kiss on her love's lips.

After about twenty minutes, the two mares fell asleep in each other's warn, tender embrace.

The next day, when Twilight and Luna went down to the dining room for breakfast, Celestia couldn't help but tease the two lovebirds a little bit.

"For the thousandth time sister, we didn't do anything! We talked for a bit and then fell asleep!" Luna exclaimed, a bit frustrated.
"Whatever you say Luna" Celestia smirked.
"We. Didn't. Do. Anything!" Luna exclaimed once more, this time making Twilight giggle a little bit.
"Of course sister, whatever you say..." Celestia replied, laughing. Luna just huffed in defeat; there was no escaping her sister's teasing.
"Oh, and might I say congratulations on the engagement; I'm quite happy for the both of you" She added as Twilight smiled in thanks.

After finishing their meal, a white unicorn guardspony announced the arrival of Princess Cadence and Prince Shining Armor. Seeing as Celestia was going to see the two later on in the morning, Luna asked her sister to tell the young couple that they wanted to see them later when they had a moment to talk.

Luna and Twilight then returned to Luna's chambers and discussed the events of the last couple days:

"I kind of hope it's just a false alarm..." Twilight mumbled.
"I mean, I wouldn't mind having a foal one day, but I don't know if I'm really ready to have a child yet..." She added.
"I will admit the thought of being a parent is a little frightening, but one day, I'd love to be a mother. When are you to get the results back?" Luna asked.
"In a couple days from now..." She replied. Luna nodded.
"Would you mind if I accompanied you?" The lunar goddess asked.
"I wouldn't mind at all, Luna. In fact, I think I would prefer if you came with me" She replied.

It wasn't too long after that when the two mares herd a knock on the door. Upon answering it, Princess Cadence and Shining Armor entered the room. After Luna greeted them, Cadence immediately asked what was going on.

"Well...huh...you see..." The princess of friendship stuttered. Seeing her distress, Luna draped one of her wings around the lavender mare.
"Twilight, breathe. Just relax...everything is going to be fine" She soothed.
"What's up Twilight? You know you can tell us anything, right?" Cadence asked in hopes of getting to the bottom of all of this. Twilight sighed.
"Well...the thing is...I huh...Luna and I got engaged" Twilight said, waiting for a response from her brother and sister-in-law.
"You and Luna...got engaged? Really? Yes! I knew you two would end up together!" Cadence exclaimed, much to Twilight and Luna's confusion.
"Huh?" The two mares asked in unison.
"Twilight, I've known you since you were a little filly; I've known about your interest in mares for a long time; I just never said anything because I never felt it was my place. Not to mention the fact that I am technically the princess of Love, so I knew how you two felt about each other this whole time." Cadence explained with a smile.
"I'm really happy for you, Twily" Shining Armor said, hugging his sister.
"Do...huh...mom and dad know?" He asked hesitantly.
"No...and I would much rather not tell them..." Twilight said.

The four ponies stayed in that room and discussed the different options for hours. Every time Shining Armor or Cadence would suggest something involving her straight out confronting her parents, Twilight shot it down. It's not that she didn't want her parents to know, she just didn't want to argue with them over her sexuality.

Finally, Twilight had agreed to tell her parents of her and Luna's engagement. She and her fiance decided that they would invite Twilight Velvet and Night Light to the palace later on that evening. Twilight mentally prepared herself for the rest of the day until they arrived.

Once Twilight Velvet and Night Light arrived, the four of them went into what once was Twilight's room when she was living at the palace studying under Princess Celestia. Luna could feel Twilight's nervousness,- not to mention, it was fairly obvious by the look on her face- she desperately wished that there was some way to calm her love.

Luna did feel guilty for kind of forcing Twilight to talk to her parents, but at the same time, she knew it would have to be done eventually. She never once forced Twilight to do anything she didn't want to, but she could tell this was something she did not want to do.

"So, huh...mom, dad, t-they're something I need to tell you guys..." Twilight started.
"What is it, sweetie? And why is Princess Luna here?" Her mother asked.
"Because I wanted her here. Anyway, huh...well, there's something I've been hiding from you for a long time; I'm...I'm gay and Luna is my mare-friend" Twilight replied as Luna hugged her with her wing in comfort.

You could have heard a pin drop in Manehatten- that's how quiet it was in the room. Nopony dared to speak. Twilight looked to her parents, then back to the floor.

"Where did we go wrong?" Velvet mumbled.
"I don't know sweetheart..." Night Light replied.
"I never thought one of ours would be like that..." Velvet said.
"I'm still the same mare I was before..." Twilight chimed in.
"No, you are not our daughter. Our daughter was normal. From this point on, we have no daughter" Night Light replied somewhat coldly. Twilight was about to leave the room when Luna finally spoke up.
"Wait a minute, are you seriously going to disown your daughter because you do not approve of her sexuality? Seriously? You do realize that regardless of what gender she's attracted to, your daughter is an amazing mare. She's saved Equestria so many times, Celestia and I have lost count, she is one of the most powerful ponies in Equestrian history, she is basically a genius and she is an amazing friend who is ready to help at anytime; no matter what. She was extremely courageous in even telling you about this; it is a very difficult thing to do, believe me, I know. What valid argument do you have for disowning her?"
"It's not normal for a mare to be attracted to another mare like that; it's just not natural" Velvet argued.
"Really? There are plenty of things we all do everyday of our lives that are deemed 'unnatural' according to our history, Ms. Velvet." Luna argued.
"Well...huh...It's against Faust's laws" Night Light replied. Luna laughed.
"Seriously? 'It's against Faust's laws'? Pfft! Faust never said anything about homosexuality being a sin or 'against her laws'." Luna replied.
"It's disgusting" Velvet replied.
"So is what you and your husband do in the bedroom, I presume Ms. Velvet." Luna replied. Twilight just sat there and watched as her fiance and her parents argued.
"Why do you ponies insist on all this anyway? You all just choose to be that way..." Night Light argued. Luna did all within her power to not explode with rage with great success. Instead, she calmly replied.
"Are you serious? You think we choose to be this way? You think we choose to be shunned and harassed over what we are sexually attracted to? You know, I had friends who were chased out of Equestria because of their sexuality. You think we would seriously choose to be basically exiled from home because other ponies think we're 'odd', or 'weird', or 'broken'? Sexual orientation isn't a choice, Ms. Velvet; it's something you are born with."

Noticing Twilight's unease with the situation, Luna spoke up once more.

"I think it might be best if you left. If you cared at all for you daughter, you wouldn't be doing this. Your son can accept his sister for who she is, why can't you? Oh, and Twilight forgot to mention, I proposed to her, and she accepted. Though if you can't accept her for who she is, I wouldn't bother coming to the wedding" As she finished talking, Twilight Velvet and Night Light were gone.

"Well...that could have gone a lot worse..." Twilight said once her parents were gone.
"Are you okay?" Luna asked.
"I'm...I'm fine; I knew this was going to happen regardless of what we did" she replied.
"You did the right thing, Twilight" Luna said as she draped one of her cobalt blue wings on Twilight's back.
"Yeah, it was better to tell them now rather than wait and have an even bigger argument then the one today" she replied.
"At least it's done now..." Luna muttered as Twilight nuzzled her.

Later on that day, Twilight sent a scroll to Spike requesting the girls' presence in Canterlot. She also sent six tickets for the next train to Canterlot.

The wait for the girls'-- and Spike's-- arrival was long. Long enough for Twilight to somewhat catch up on her sleep-- in loving company of her fiance of course! When Twilight and Luna awoke, Twilight's friends had arrived.

The two lovers made their way to the throne room where the elements of harmony and baby dragon were waiting. Twilight was nervous, but no where near as nervous as she was about talking to her parents. Compared to that, this would be a breeze.

"Good evening, everypony" Luna greeted warmly.
"So, Twilight, you wanted to talk to us about something?" Rainbow Dash asked.
"Yes, huh...how do I put this? I've been...huh...seeing somepony..." Twilight started, but was cut off by Pinkie Pie.
"You're seeing somepony? Do we know them? Is that why you're in Canterlot more often now?" She asked.
"Yes" She replied with a slight smile.
"So who's the lucky stallion?" Rarity asked.
"Huh...well...I'm not...huh...seeing a stallion..." Twilight trailed on.
"I'm Twilight's mare-friend" Luna said with a smile.
"You...and Twilight...are dating?" Applejack asked, almost not believing what she was hearing.
"Yes" the princess of friendship replied.
"Not to pry darling, but how long as this secret relationship been going for?" Rarity asked.
"Since Luna's first Nightmare Night" Twilight replied.
"That long?" Pinkie pie exclaimed as the two mares nodded in reply.
"Actually, there's another thing we wanted to tell you..." Twilight began, before Luna took over.
"A couple of days ago, I decided that I wanted to take a step further into our relationship, so I asked Twilight to marry me" the lunar princess smiled.
"To which I gladly accepted" Twilight smiled.
"You're getting married?" the five mares and baby dragon exclaimed in surprise.
"Y-yes..." Twilight replied.
"Congratulations, darling . We are all quite happy for you" Rarity exclaimed, hugging the lavender mare. The other five mares also joined in on the hug.
"Thanks girls" Twilight smiled.

After a few hours of discussing various subjects including the wedding, a topic came up in which Twilight dreaded.

"What do your folks think about all this?" Rainbow asked.
"I'd rather not talk about that..." She replied as he friends exchanged concerned glances.
"Let's just say it didn't go too well..." Luna said as she draped a wing around the princess of friendship.
"I'm sorry Twi; I didn't mean to upset you" Rainbow Dash apologized.
"Don't worry about it, Dash" Twilight replied with a faint smile.
"How did princess Celestia react to your announcement?" Rarity asked, trying to change the subject.
"My sister was quite happy for Twilight and I; she took the news quite well actually" the moon princess smiled.

Soon enough, the sun had long since set, and the moon was at it's peak in the sky. The royal couple decided it was time to call it a night.

"I think it's high time we get some rest; big day tomorrow" Luna said.
"Tell me about it; especially with the announcement in the afternoon..." Twilight replied.
"You needn't worry about that, Twilight. I'm sure it'll all be just fine." Rarity exclaimed encouragingly.
"I know. Well, see you girls in the morning" she replied before she and Luna returned to their chambers.

Once inside, Twilight began to pace around frantically-- as she usually does.

"Twilight, relax. Everything is going to be fine; regardless of how things play out tomorrow morning" Luna said in attempt to calm her fiance.
"I can't help it, Luna. I mean, what if I am actually pregnant? How the heck are we going to hide that from everypony? What if somepony finds out...?" Twilight began to trail into 'panic' mode.
"Twilight, don't worry so much. No matter what we find out tomorrow, I'll be there with you every step of the way. We'll figure everything out; I promise" she reassured, dragging her fiance into the bed beside her.
"I love you" the princess of friendship replied, kissing the love of her life.
"And I you, my dear"

Announcement

Morning came around quite quickly for the royal couple, who somehow managed to sneak out of the palace and make it to Ponyville. Twilight's appointment with Dr. Bloodwork at Ponyville General was at seven; the earliest possible. Dr. Bloodwork; a dark brown earth pony stallion with a short black mane, didn't even bother questioning the princess as to why Luna was there; he just 'rolled with it' as the young fillies and colts would say.

After quickly scanning through the results of Twilight's tests, he finally said:

"Congratulations, your highness. It appears you are indeed pregnant"

Twilight was speechless; she didn't know how to respond to this. On one hand, she was kind of happy and excited to be a mother, but at the same time, feared for her foal and its well-being. Noticing her fiance freezing up, Luna thanked Dr. Bloodwork and brought Twilight back to her home. Once at Twilight's castle, Luna looked to Twilight for a reaction; any kind of reaction.

"Twilight? Are you alright?" She asked, concerned for her lover's well-being.
"I-I think so. This...is actually happening. What are we going to do, Luna? Nopony can find out about this..." Twilight replied.
"Don't worry love, we'll figure it out..." Luna reassured.
"I hope so, this could be quite disastrous should anypony find out about this" She replied.

Swiftly, the two princesses made their way back to Canterlot to prepare for the announcement of their engagement to the public; something in which frightened Luna no matter how many times Twilight-- and even Celestia-- had reassured her that times had changed, and most ponies were accepting of same-sex marriage as compared to a thousand years ago.

"Are you ready?" Twilight asked.
"Are you?" Luna asked in reply.
"As I'll ever be" Twilight smiled, nuzzling the lunar princess.

With that, the two went outside of the palace to face the group of newsponies waiting for their arrival. They had arranged for a member of the castle staff to tell the tabloids that the two princesses were dating. They would be addressing these rumors today.

"Good morning everypony, we are here this morning to put the rumors concerning me and Princess Twilight Sparkle to rest" Princess Luna began.
"Some of you seem to believe that Princess Luna and I have been dating in secret. Well, these rumors are completely true." Twilight continued as the ponies mumbled amongst themselves.
"Recently, we've decided we wanted to take a step further in our relationship. So, I asked Princess Twilight for her hoof in marriage" Luna continued.
"To which I gladly accepted" Twilight added.

As the ponies mumbled, Twilight and Luna took their leave. While walking through the palace halls, Twilight's thoughts returned to the news she had recieved earlier that morning; she was in fact pregnant, there was no denying it now. The lavender alicorn's feelings were conflicted about the whole thing; while she was excited by the idea of being a mother, she was also utterly terrified by the thought.

While it seemed as if everypony took the news of their engagement rather well, she wasn't sure it would be the same should they announce the pregnancy. It terrified the lavender mare to even think about telling anypony about this.

"Well, I think that went rather well" Luna exclaimed, bringing Twilight back to reality.
"It definitely went better than expected" the princess of friendship replied.
"Are you alright, Twilight? You seem a bit...distracted" the lunar princess asked, concerned.
"I'm fine, just trying to process what happened this morning I guess" the lavender mare replied.
"Oh Twilight, I'm sorry I got us into this mess..." Luna exclaimed, guilt in her voice.
"It isn't your fault, Luna. It happens. Sure, I wasn't expecting this, but I have a feeling this is going to be quite the adventure; being parents. Besides, we'll get through this together, right?" she asked in reply.
"Of course, love. We will get throught all of this together; I promise"

Meanwhile in the throne room, Princess Celestia listened to yet another pony complain about her sister and former student's engagement. This was the third pony today with this same complaint. This time it was her 'nephew'; Prince Blueblood. Once the white unicorn stallion finished what he had to say, Celestia, all the while keeping her calm and collected allure, finally spoke:

"Prince Blueblood, there is nothing in Equestrian law that forbides two mares or two stallions to get married. In fact, we have laws that actually protect their right to marry whom they choose. Therefore, the wedding will take place regardless of anypony's personal opinion on the matter"

With a 'hmph', Blueblood stormed out of the throne room. Celestia emmitted a loud sigh as Raven arrived at her side.

"Another one here to complain?" she asked.
"Unfortunately; this is the third one in a row. I swear, if I have to listen to one more pony complain about my sister's engagement..." she replied.
"Well, luckily for everypony, that was the last one for the day" Raven exclaimed with a small smile.
"Thank goodness" the solar princess sighed in relief.
"Princess, if you don't mind my asking, how do you feel about all of this?" the white unicorn mare asked the princess nervously.
"Personally, I'm quite happy for the both of them. Before Luna even announced her and Twilight's relationship to me, she made it perfectly clear that she was a firm supporter of same-sex marriage. So I made sure that she would return to a world where she wouldn't need to fight for everypony to have the right to get married." the alabaster alicorn explained.
"Wow, that's incredible. So you legalized same-sex marriage for your sister?" she asked.
"Yes, but also because at the end of the day, love is love, and who are we to deny two ponies who love each other the right to be together in matrimony based on their gender and the gender of their partner?" Celestia replied.
"I couldn't have said it better myself, your highness" Raven smiled.

Wedding Planning

View Online

Within the next few months, Twilight and Luna made several trips to Ponyvile and Canterlot-- depending on their schedules of course!-- to begin preparations for their wedding. They decided that the wedding was to take place in spring, which was roughly six months away.

As these last few months went by, Twilight's friends noticed a few changes in the lavender alicorn's behavior. She had been ill almost every morning, sometimes forcing her to cancel appointments or even plans with her friends. It appeared to the girls as if she became extremely emotional for no real apparent reason as well. And though none of them would admit it to Twilight herself, it did seem as if the princess of friendship gained a bit of weight recently.

"She's in the middle of planning her wedding; surely it's just stress" Rarity defended.
"Ah don't know, Rarity. There's something off about Twilight, ah just know it!" Applejack argued in reply.
"What makes you so sure?" Fluttershy asked.
"Call it a hunch, ah guess. Even Luna's acting a little sketchy lately" the orange earth pony replied.
"Oh, come now Applejack, you seriously believe there's something amiss about them?" Rarity exclaimed.
"All ah can say for certain is that those two are definitely hiding something..." she replied.
"Hi girls," Twilight greeted, entering the throne room of her castle.
"Are you alright, darling? I must say, you don't look like you're feeling very well" Rarity asked the alicorn.

Twilight was a complete mess. Her mane was obviously unkempt and messy, there were large bags under her eyes from a lack of sleep, and it was evident that she had been feeling a bit under the weather lately.

"I'm perfectly fine" the princess attempted to reassure.
"You don't look fine, sugarcube. When was the last time you had a full night's rest?" Applejack added.
"I've just been a little under the weather lately; I'm fine girls, really" Twilight reassured once more.
"Are you sure you're fine, Twilight?" Fluttershy asked.
"Absolutely; I'm totally fine" the lavender alicorn replied.
"Alright then, let's get to work!" Pinkie Pie exclaimed.

About two hours into the wedding planning, Twilight rose and made her way to the door.

"Are you alright, Twilight?" Fluttershy asked, concerned.
"I have to go; I'll be back soon" she replied vaguely.
"Where are you going, Twi?" Rainbow Dash asked in turn.
"I have an appointment" she replied.
"An appointment for what?" Rarity asked, trying to catch the tiniest bit of information she can.
"It's just a check-up; it's no big deal" Twilight reassured.
"Alright then, Twilight. We'll be here" Applejack exclaimed as the lavender alicorn made her way to the door.

Once she was out of earshot, the five mares glanced at each other in confusion.

"I think you might be right, Applejack; there is something up with her" Rarity remarked.

At Ponyville Genereal Hospital, Princess Twilight and Princess Luna met up and went inside Dr. Bloodwork's office as instructed by one of the nurses. He determined that it would be best if they went directly to his office as to not arise suspicion. From there, the two mares would be re-directed to where they needed to go.

"I just hope everything's alright..." Twilight mumbled.
"Don't worry Twilight, everything's going to be fine" Luna reassured her soon-to-be wife.

With that, Dr. Bloodwork entered his office. At the sight of the two princesses, the dark brown earth pony stallion smiled at the two.

"Good afternoon your hignesses; I assume you're here for the ultrasound?" he asked.
"Yes," Twilight smiled in reply.
"Alright, head down the hall to room 306; the public has no idea what that room is used for" he instructed as the two mares nodded in understanding.

The two then proceeded to follow Dr. Bloodwork's instructions. Once inside the room, a light blue unicorn mare with a blonde mane tied up in a bun greeted the couple. Once they were all set up, the ultrasound technician began.

Looking at the image of her and Twilight's unborn foal on the screen, Luna couldn't help but be amazed at how far medical science has come since her exile. She also felt endless joy and excitement at the thought of being a parent. Seeing as Twilight was now approximately three months pregnant, the mare was able to determine that the foal would be born in late winter or early spring.

"Would you like to know the foal's gender?" the ultrasound technician asked.
"It doesn't matter to me, do you want to know the gender, Twilight?" Luna asked the lavender alicorn.
"No, I'd rather be surprised" she smiled.
"Alright then" the light blue mare named Sunny Breeze replied.

Once they were done at Ponyville Genreal, Luna and Twilight returned to Twilight's castle. The five mares and Spike greeted them when they arrived, though the girls couldn't shake the feeling that there was something off about them.

In the back alleys of Canterlot, a cloaked pony made is way into the Rusty Horseshoe; an old pub known to ponies for it's reputation as a hangout for criminals, through the backdoor. Once inside, the mysterious stallion turned to the right, and knocked on the door six times; signaling his arrival to whoever else was inside. Upon entering the back room, the stallion removed his cloak to reveal his true identity.

"Why did you summon us, Lord Blueblood?" a red unicorn mare known as Crimson Blade asked.
"We need to discuss our plans to stop this wedding" he replied.
"What did you have in mind?" asked a jade green Pegasus stallion named Breeze Rider.
"Well, there can't be a wedding if one of the brides is missing..." Blueblood grinned.
"Are you implying that we should foalnap one of the princesses?" a purple unicorn mare asked.
"Let's take it a step further than that..." the white unicorn replied, a malefic look in his eye.
