Spike has some conflicted feelings about the new addition to the family coming soon.

After a prank too far last year's Nightmare Night by Rainbow Dash, Rarity, with the help of Ponyville's number one assistant, Spike, decides to get some revenge by pranking the prankster. However, things don't always work out the way they are planned.

A few years down the line, Scootaloo is still earthbound. While still puttering her scooter around, she has noticed her friends have changed their focus away from their cutie marks. This bothers the orange pegasus and causes her to look for a new friend. And she finds one in a purple dragon with newly grown wings.

Twilight falls asleep at her desk and Spike remembers all the reasons he loves and cares for her. Shortly after, Twilight returns the favor.

Spike's got three whole days to himself while Twilight is away at the Crystal Empire. Three whole days to be independent and free to do whatever he wants.

Or he would have, if a female dragon hadn't mistaken him for an abandoned hatchling. Now he's been snatched up and taken to her home to be "properly cared for."

Stuck in a cave with an overly-protective dragon intent on mothering him...maybe he should have just gone with Twilight.

After Princess Twilight is given the news that she must move much farther from their friend than she already had, Spike finds himself infuriated. The resulting argument is enough to force him to run away, but neither could have imagined how devastating it would be to their friendship. Now, six years later, Spike can't stop thinking about what he did that night and how dearly he wishes to take it back. So, after many sleepless nights, he decides to return to the friend he's long since abandoned, though when he arrives in Canterlot, Spike may have found more than just friendship.

The parents of Rainbow Dash, Rarity, Fluttershy, Pinkie Pie, Twilight and in AJ's case her Granny, they're all sure they're daughters (granddaughter) were definitely NOT ponies the day before. The girls beg to differ and wonder why everyone is wondering, as to why they're ponies. Heck, Spike is a dragon, people should freak out about that!

Ms. Cheerilee thinks that Spike should be in school. Twilight Sparkle thinks that Spike is learning well enough just by being her #1 assistant. Spike sees an opportunity to settle the matter in his own way.

In doing so, Spike will discover a few uncomfortable things, but he might make a friend out of the deal too.

This story is a sequel to Maternal Bonds of Eternal Friendship

Spike feels he is no longer relevant to Twilight, or any pony, ever since Twilight became the Princess of Friendship. With Applejack, Rarity, Fluttershy, Rainbow Dash, Pinkie Pie, and other ponies now receiving all the attention as he gets left behind to tend to chores, he questions his purpose and whether he really is seen as anything special by any pony.

Spike is helping Rarity at Carousel Boutique when disaster strikes. But love blooms in the worst of conditions, strengthened by the fire. Yet a romance between a pony and a dragon is bound to have certain... complications, that will require an epic adventure and the strongest of love to overcome.

Authors notes: The first chapter is super short (its also really awesome if I do say so myself) but the rest won't be. Promise. There will be some combat later on, but at the moment, it won't be super graphic, so again, dodging a bullet. The first 2 or 3 chapters will be a little sad/tragic, but its not the tone of the story, and its nothing to bad so they won't be tagged. The entire story will not be written like the first chapter.
