Over a thousand years ago, the Crystal Empire fell. A darkness had invaded and to protect the kingdom, the princess was sent away, only to return when she was ready for her throne. A king rose from the turmoil to take the throne and led the kingdom with fear and darkness, and the ponies suffered until two sisters saved them by sealing them away. This is the story of the empire's fall.

*Author's Note* As the short description says, DO NOT read this story if you haven't read "The 5th Great Ninja/Pony War". It won't make any sense to you. I had a list of spoilers up here from the first book giving you a summary of what happened, but took it down due to many hateful messages. If you don't want to read the prequel and would prefer to just jump right in to this tale, send me a message and I will update you on the current situation in Equestria.

King Sombra wasn't always evil, in fact he recalls his life so we would understand what he did and why he became the thing of shadows. Please listen to a King instead of those wretched sisters.

Today was the anniversary of Sombra's defeat and the freedom of the Crystal Empire from his tyranny. It was the day of merry. Crystal ponies crowd the streets, stores and gaming tents were setup along the road. Music flew through the air, smiles adorn the crystal ponies' faces. A joyous celebration indeed.

Under the guidance of the fretful Princess Twilight, the sardonic Spike, and the ever-loyal crystal ponies, she will rise from the ashes of a childhood nightmare to become the princess she was always meant to be.

The journey won't be easy, but she won't give up. She was meant to be the Crystal Princess. That is her purpose.

And she will stop at nothing to keep it that way.

An entry in Imposing Sovereigns III, using the prompt "Flurry Heart/DETERMINATION".

A short trip around the block ended up turning quite a bit different. The Doctor and his three friends find themselves on the threshold of the Crystal Empire, 1000 years ago when still ruled by the evil King Sombra. The Doctor strangely enough does not want to stay and investigate why they are there but before they can escape they are captured and imprisoned by the evil king.

The Doctor's friends, Private Iceland, Dew Doe and Foxy Stripes are separated from him and must face the fearsome tyrant alone, wondering how the Doctor knows him and this land that from their perspective doesn't even exist in their memory. A difficult journey is ahead for all four as they must escape the tyrant and his web of fear and hate.

This story is part of The Equestria Tales series, although set in an alternate universe.

From the perspective of some of the characters, only season 1 and parts of season 2 have happened. The crossover tag is on due to the use of elements from Doctor Who.

A decade after Twilight’s coronation, crystal ponies from deep space made first contact with Equestria. 200 years later, with ponykind on the brink of total annihilation, a group of ponies is tasked with a secret mission meant to turn the tide of the war.

If only it was that simple.

The first act covering 19 chapters is already fully written and edited! There will be a new chapter at least once a month, with extra chapters sprinkled in between!

A note about the Crossover tag:
The story is inspired by a show called Space Battleship Yamato 2199, however only loosely. Outside of the general premise and inspiration, the story and characters are all original. Watching SBY is absolutely NOT required to enjoy or understand the story.

A note about the other tags:
While the story does include Dark elements (a bit unavoidable as the story deals with war), I have no intention for it to ever reach the Grimdark territory.

One rainy sets in motion a bout of boredom for young Apple Bloom. Her sister tells her to read a book. Grumbling that books aren't immersive Apple Bloom reluctantly agrees to do some reading.

But now she can't put it down and is now swept up in the life story of a mysterious little poet filly, with a rather excellent vocabulary and a quirky personality.
