The Battle of the Two Sisters is over, and with it, Luna's Rebellion, its leader banished to the Moon by the Elements of Harmony. Her opponent's army shattered, its leaders all but gone and its greatest warriors either dead or in flight, Princess Celestia's position looks secure.

To the north, however, a threat remains. King Sombra of the Crystal Empire, beloved by his subjects, had declared for and fought alongside Luna during her rebellion. Now, he moves desperately to secure his city and its inhabitants, with the wrath of Celestia's army hot on his heels.

The fate of an entire nation hangs in the balance. Though Celestia was known in peace for her adherence to kindness and harmony, there is no telling the rage and hatred that Luna's Rebellion had unleashed. The Battle of the Two Sisters is over, but the Battle of the Crystal Empire is just beginning.

When the CMCs and Cozy Glow encounter a haunted house on Nightmare Night, which just happened to be near the place where Bright Mac and Pear Butter died, the four fillies discover many horrors that they can't unsee, with a sense of fright and discovery for Apple Bloom as she digs deeper into her parents' lives and how they died.

Samba is a down-on-her-luck mare working as a dancer at a pub in downtown Baltimare to make ends meet. A chance encounter on the way home one night leads to her meeting Limbo, a private detective investigating a series of kidnappings. The two might have little in common, but a proactive mare like Limbo might be just the motivator Samba needs to get her life back on track and help improve her self-image.

So, working together, Samba and Limbo strike out to find the one responsible for the disappearances, as well as Limbo's murderer.

Oh, did I forget to mention that Limbo's a zombie? Because that's kinda important.

There is a legend among the Outlaws of Equestria's southern deserts. They tell of a ghost, a blind pony dressed in black, carrying a raven on her shoulder. For Silver Steps, this legend is all too real. Once a young colt with big dreams of becoming an Outlaw, now he is on the run, endlessly chased by the mysterious hangmare.

But what could he, a hapless excuse for a stallion who wouldn't hurt a fly, have done to invoke the hangmare's wrath? Perhaps the answer lies in the minds of the dead, for whom the hangmare seeks to avenge?

After seeing Rarity's new boyfriend, Spike realizes that he's too ugly to ever date her.

But what scares him the most is the realization that he might not ever be attractive enough to date anypony. It takes a conversation with Twilight to help him realize just how special he is.

What did it mean to be a worthy man?

This was the question that had haunted Spike ever since he had fallen for Rarity. At first, the answer had seemed so simple. Honesty, laughter, generosity, kindness, loyalty, and magic. These were the qualities Spike aspired to embody.

At least, they were, before he had his heart broken.
