For over a hundred years, Princess Celestia has taken the time to read a few letters that some fillies and colts send her at the end of each school year. Most of the letters bring a smile to her face; there's nothing like the wondering, wonderful mind of a child after all.

Fires will fade, and darkness will consume the world. Over the ages countless Lords of Cinders have risen and fallen. All of them having completed their quest: To link the First Flame.

The Unkindled One stands before the First Flame. It's just an ordinary bonfire, right? He is tired, broken, and only wants to rest.

A summoning sign appears. Thinking it is the Firekeeper, the Unkindled One reaches out for it.

What he summons, however, shocks him.

Just a one-shot that popped up in my mind while finishing Dark Souls III. The Unkindled One had been through a lot of pain and suffering. And I could only think of one pony to comfort him while he pondered over his next move.

And the only reason I'm using Circus-Cinnamon's photo is because I can't find any other photos with how I really feel on it. I mean seriously, crystal ponies, I'm yelling half the time, is it that hard to take an angry picture?!

With how much ponies stumble, fall, crash, take hits, and get things dropped on them, you'd think they would... you know... actually get hurt.

Well it turns out there's a reason for that!

The reason: Ponies are squishy.

Berry Punch was an average pony, living in an average city, who owned an average business. In fact, everything about this particular mare was average, with the exception of one thing: her child. While bat ponies weren’t unheard of in Ponyville, one certainly would not meet one every day, let alone the first bat pony documented in the history of Equestria.

Ponies? Yeah, you hear a lot about them growing up in the minotaur homelands, and it isn't all positive. Actually, almost none of it is positive. They're different. They've got those weird pictures on their flanks and those little prayers they mumble to their princesses. Ponies are gentle, passive. They're not like us.

See, a minotaur is supposed to act a certain way. You bulk up. You get aggressive. You don't let anyone else push you around, and you don't associate with ponies. I've heard the same thing my whole life, ever since I was young.

Twilight is almost used to being an alicorn now. She's accepted that unexpected change, and is even happy about it, most of the time. Her magical abilities have grown by leaps and bounds, and she's starting to enjoy the freedom offered by flight. While she can't imagine ever being as good as Rainbow Dash, anypony with reasonable standards would by now consider her quite competent in the air.

But despite her growing enthusiasm and confidence, there's something that she has neglected to deal with. Something that's bothered her at times ever since the transformation, but kept getting shuffled down her list of priorities. Fortunately, she knows just the pony to talk to for help, and she won't let nervousness and self-reliant rationalization hold her back anymore. The latest of Pinkie Pie's parties provides a perfect pretext for a conversation she should've had months ago.
