(Takes place after the events of Star Trek Online) The Klingons are back to being the Federation's allies, but our courageous heroes aren't out of the woods yet! A small planet, with a strange type of radiation, has caught the Borg's ocular implants. What more, it's inhabited by... ponies? It looks like the natives can control that radiation, and they've caught much more than the Borg's eye. Tal'Shiar, Jem'Haddar, everyone's gunning for these multicolored friendship equines. But, what makes this radiation so special?
What can they see that we can't?

Important Note: this story is a prequel to The Empty Room. You do not need to read it to understand this story, but bear in mind it happens entirely in a pre-Season 2 AU which has different situations (and some characters) than those that came up in canon after TER was completed.

But hey, who said it had to be the "mane" casts that saves the day? The Great and Powerful Trixie is always at your service!

"I'm going to be famous!", "I'm going to be the next big thing!", "I'm going to be a superstar!" Octavia couldn't even count how many times she'd heard her roommate claim that she was headed for fame and fortune.

But the worst part is, Vinyl might not be wrong. At least, not entirely.

This fic is inspired by the Dream Theater album Octavarium, which is awesome, and you should go listen to it. It is not, however, required to understand the story.

And for the record, this is not a Vinyltavia shipfic.

A strange slab with the most curious markings upon it inspires the two of them to lead an expedition into the borders of Equestrian territory, into the dense forests of the Northern Wilds. Packing up and leaving for the mysterious border town of Hollow Shades and the neighboring Mount Elder, their company seeks answers to mysteries that have been buried for millions of years.

But some mysteries aren't meant to be solved. There are some things pony was not meant to know. And the revelations may just bring Lyra's perfect world crashing down around her.

It was another one of those days. You know the type... the kind where an omnipotent tomfool decides to invade your town and turn everything topsy-turvy. Rarity and her friends thought they would just have to break out the Elements of Harmony once again to take Discord down and bring back some normalcy. But when a shockwave of mysterious energy sends her to a world she's never known, twisting her perception of reality right down to her very body, she's going to need a lot more than some magic jewelry to bring any sense of normality back to her life.

And it's going to take a lot more than a trip to the psychiatrist's couch to bring any sense of normality back to his life.
