Happy Trails was a human before he was a pony. With no hope of returning home, he wanders the furthest corners of the earth, hoping to get as lost as he feels. But the only interdimensional traveler in Equestria has been stranded long enough to have history. History that follows him, and leaves only ashes behind.

Gertie the griffon always wanted to fit in. She never will. But Happy Trails is also alone. Perhaps being alone together will make the road easier.

In a remote village at the end of the world, two castaways might finally find themselves.

This story is a sequel to The Trouble with Unicorns II

Acorn's apartment on Earth has lots of great features: a dishwasher, forced-air heating and cooling, a coffee maker, a food processor, a gym and laundry room in the basement . . . it's also got a telephone. She's not so keen on the telephone.

Specifically, she’s not so keen on telemarketers.

This story is a sequel to Tales Of The Canterlot Deportation Agency: A Typical Day

There's a motive behind every deliberate human incursion into Equestria. For the humans coming from Jack's world, it tends to be profiteering, combined with a total lack of empathy and inability to care about anyone who's not making at least three billion dollars per year. Every day, the sum of that equation is measured as lost lives in the shadowfell, and all which keeps the total from climbing higher on the pony side is a single high school student and his newfound friends. Or rather, a group of assistants and the bundle of chemicals which sometimes wears Jack's skin.

The chemicals may be insane. And that madness just might be the only way for Jack to survive.

The ponies of the CDA have no natural means of reaching the worlds which have been launching incursions into Equestria, and have no hope of passing for natives should they cross. The Princesses, desperate for solutions, chose to recruit some of those who made the most resourceful, peaceful incursions as the CDA personnel on their sides of the barrier, stopping further disruptions in exchange for hours spent in Equestria. Bree Daniels is the only human agent in her world, a job which offers numerous chances to get killed. But she's survived so far, because Bree has a way of dealing with problems...

...a way which might call into question just what qualities the Princesses are seeking in their human agents to begin with. And how necessary those qualities are.

(Follows the first CDA story: the second one is slightly more optional.)

Officially, it's the 'temporary human settlement camp': land set aside for the most peaceful arrivals in Equestria -- those who cannot be sent home -- to live until a means arrives to return them to their birthplaces. Most of the ponies who supervise the place call it 'the zoo'. The residents use New Cynosure. And Ben, one of the earliest incursions, has been there for nearly three years -- the only one from his world to live in New Cynosure at all. As such, he's the one the ponies turn to when someone else showing all the signs of his home comes in.

Someone else from that home just arrived to be given the usual choice of prisons: the cells for those who won't live in peace, confinement under the outdoor shield for the humans who will --

-- or the one in their head.

Humans. Over the last few years, they've been appearing in Equestria. Virtually all of them believe they're the first ones to make it there. And they try to move in, take over, and worse. Sometimes much worse. Even the peaceful ones can do damage by accident and there's no way to tell what could happen long-term. Equestria is for ponies and has to stay that way -- and so the Princesses have created the Canterlot Deportation Agency. The CDA exists to send humans back where they came from. Every time. As peacefully as possible, with a minimum of injuries -- unless things go wrong. And things do go wrong.

It's a long road from Baltimore back to Michigan, but it gets a lot shorter when I pick up a pony hitchhiker.

I don't know her or where she came from. She was just there in the parking lot of the Mahoning Valley Service Plaza and I was too surprised to say no when she asked for a ride.

Besides, sometimes it's lonely to drive alone.
