The war is finally over. We ponies have lost. Our plan to convert humanity into ponies has failed. Hundreds of thousands are dead. Homes destroyed. Our nation is shattered and near annihilation. All because we underestimated humanity and their refusal to become like us.

I alone now hold the fate of my people in my hooves against the humans who want nothing more than to destroy us for the so called atrocities we have committed against them. I've lost my friends one way or another. My family. My fellow Princesses.

I have but one duty and that is, reluctantly, to see that we are shown mercy.

I'm just afraid of the cost. Or what I will learn from this.

A group of students from the School for Gifted Unicorns are given a chance to visit Celestia's royal garden and a curious filly decides to ask about a statue that's in their tour, where they all hear the story of how the spirit of chaos fell into a stone imprisonment for the third and final time.

Twilight's been almost alone for a thousand years, and in a desperate attempt to bring her friends back, intentionally unseals Discord, Spirit of Chaos, from his stone slumber.

He's in for some nasty surprises, since she's changed quite a bit over the years...

Princess Twilight Sparkle has always been quite the student, even before she earned the title of Princess. However, her new responsibilities require some new knowledge; an idea of what Equestria was, what the world was before Order was established and the Princesses came to power. The problem is finding somebody who can teach these things.

If only there was some ancient being who had been through everything, who had been alive before the time of Order, before Princess Luna became Nightmare Moon, before King Sombra ruled over the Crystal Empire. Perhaps someone from the Era of Chaos, when Discord Draconequus had reigned over everything... But where in Canterlot Castle would they ever find somebody like that?

Back in Tartarus after his latest defeat, Tirek is cursed to spend countless years within the worst prison imaginable. Luckily for him, Discord is here to change that. With the magic of friendship and board games, Discord becomes Tirek's new roommate, and thus his newest thorn in the side as well in a bid to reform him.

Now Tirek's imagination is stretched to its limit with just how horrible Tartarus can really become.

Twilight Sparkle has finally perfected a device allowing ponies to speak to each other over great distances. Unfortunately, the first call she receives is from Pinkie. Things go downhill from there.

Discord has found Tirek, and is about to parade him back to his friends for their love and adoration. But an offer is made, an enticing offer... He'll need to talk this one over with a friend.

Discord, with the help of a pegasus, attempts to fill in a form designed by someone who never expected a near-immortal Dragonequus to try to fill it in.

At her coronation after-party, Twilight gets a little freaked out at the prospect of growing into her new life, especially one specific aspect of it. She knows better than anyone that talking her problems over with a friend can help tremendously, but she doesn't have many friends with whom she'd be comfortable talking about this particular problem, let alone ones who would really understand what she's going through.

...unless she broadens her definition of "friend."
