When Nightmare Moon cast down Princess Celestia and rose to power in Equestria, Rainbow finally found some sense of pride as one of her chosen Night Guard; pegasi empowered by Nightmare Moon herself as her elite soldiers.

When Rainbow joined the Night Guard, she met Applejack, the only pony she felt she could ever truly rely on. The only pony who ever gave her a sense of joy in her otherwise dreary life.

But when Rainbow discovers a terrible secret hidden by her closest of companions, she will find herself with a difficult choice: Choose her pride as one of Nightmare Moon's finest, or the one thing that brought joy to her life.

There are many dangerous and challenging things in life. Many things that test a pony's character, stamina, and endurance. There are races, there are obstacles, and contests of skill, then there is a little-thought-of test that nopony thinks about; healing.

Rainbow Dash and Applejack have been through many Iron Pony Competitions, but when one lands them in the hospital with six weeks of bedrest they find themselves facing what is probably the hardest thing any of them have ever done.

1. Importance.
Rainbow immediately knew she said too much, the tears that began shimmering in Applejack's eyes were proof enough of this. Only her pride kept them from running down openly onto her cheeks.

2. A chance to mourn.
The last few days were a mixture of worried glances and condolences. Usually bright and happy mood of Sweet Apple Acres was replaced by forced assurances that everything is fine and silent tears, shed when no one was looking.

Applejack realizes one morning that Rainbow Dash has apparently moved in with her. This discovery surprises Dash more than a little, too, and sets off a chain of events neither could have imagined.

The original minific version of this story came in fifth in the Dec. 2015 Writeoff Association contest, "Things Left Unsaid." And the full, three-chapter-and-an-epilogue version won 3rd place in The Fourth AppleDash Contest: A Little Twist of Lemon using the categories "A Life-Changing Event" and "An Important or Memorable Date."

Rainbowdash is missing. Plain and simple. Her memories are gone, stolen by a powerful force that the elements of Harmony were lucky to escape from with their lives. Rainbowdash doesn't remember who she is, or who the ponies are who keep talking to her in her dreams, or the mysterious memory of one pony in particular. Applejack has always been the subject of bullying at her school, mainly because of her style of clothing and Southern accent. She found it hard to live with this most days, but when a poster appeared announcing needed members for a band, well, she thought she'd found her chance.
Of course, she felt moreso when she met the founder, Rainbow Dash.

There was no denying that Rainbow Dash and Lightning Dust made the best middle school badminton team, so it surprises no one when they decide to switch gears to volleyball. But with tensions between them already at its peak, an incident at their new high school's girls volleyball tryouts gets them both removed from being able to play on the team. In order to claim back their stolen prides, the girls swear to beat each other at the beach volleyball doubles tournament at the end of the school year.
There's just one problem: Rainbow Dash needs a partner.
Enter Applejack, a hardworking farmer with natural athleticism that could prove very useful in a volleyball game. But with her family dangerously close to losing their apple farm to a pair of flashy supermarket-owning brothers, will she be able to take enough time off to play? And if so, will Rainbow Dash and Applejack be able to cooperate as a team long enough to pull off a win against Lightning Dust?

WARNING: Some AppleDash inferences. If you don't like the pairing, don't read stuff containing it. But there isn't that much and the story's not really about romance anyway. I guess that I just really wanted to write something about Applejack and Rainbow Dash working together instead of competing... They would be such a great team...

How do you break away from a relationship when your other half is willing to buy the stars for you? Rainbow Dash doesn't know. But she does know some things. Like the fact that she needs to be free, like the stars. And that Twilight is trying to collect the stars.

Rainbow also knows that Twilight won't be able to change her ways. And when she begins to fall for another free spirit, it is very hard not to simply cut the ropes holding her back from the freedom she desires.

This story has a silly premise taken seriously. It's also my first foray into shipfics, so take it with a grain of salt.

Accidents are not uncommon between Applejack and Rainbow Dash. Considering how physical they often get, it's no surprise that they'd tumble over each other once in a while. However, after one of their intense races, Rainbow can't seem to get over the fact that Applejack's body is so stupidly comfy. Naturally, she turns to her tortoise for help.
