This story is a sequel to Meeting Mister and Missus Sparkle
The Grand Galloping Gala: the premier social event in Equestria. Well known as the most glamorous event of the year by ponies who have never gone, and known by those who HAVE gone as being awful, and in recent years, downright dangerous. Sunset Shimmer has returned for The Gala for the first time since she ran away to the human world, and she has brought a date: her girlfriend, SciTwi.
With the reputation The Gala has gotten in recent years, one pony is insistent on having at least ONE year where no guests are sent to the hospital, no new construction is needed on the castle, and no one is almost sent to another dimension.
This can...only end well, right? Right?
No...no it can't.
Every so often, somepony asks Twilight The Question. She hates The Question, as it is ridiculous to her. Then again, she is one of the few who knows The Answer.
Part of the Cornerverse-MLP Universe.
Sunset Shimmer has dealt with many thing over the last couple of years. Stealing the Element of Magic and becoming a raging she-demon, fighting the Sirens, and then the whole Friendship Games mess. Now, thanks to a small mistake when making a sandwich, she has a whole new group of friends to worry about. Inspired by a comment on this story by Admiral Biscuit. Cover art from here

When Sunset was just a filly under the tutelage of Princess Celestia, she developed a powerful crush on her mentor.
It didn’t end well.
Years later, Sunset is older, wiser, and ready to finally reconcile. But as she’s prepared to put her past behind her, Sunset finds out with growing horror that some feelings aren’t so easily forgotten.
The last day of school has all but come and gone. Rainbow and the others have left to prepare the holidays with their families, leaving Sunset all by herself. Ready to spend another Christmas alone, Sunset exits CHS only to be greeted by a familiar face. Someone that comes bearing a gift Sunset never thought she'd receive.
In fact, it might just be the most important gift of Sunset's life.

Cover edit (adding the words and editing so it look like a story cover) gifted to me on Christmas by Novel Idea
Edit (26/12/2016): In my haste to get this ready by Christmas, I neglected to mention that Warming A Hearth in Another World by Flutterpriest was one of the inspirations behind this tale. I always try to give credits where they're due but this one slipped through the cracks, sorry!
One day, just like that, Celestia decides she's going to go mad with power.

As seen on EQD and the Royal Canterlot Library.
Straight from the Canterlot archives, this collection of documents retells the rise and fall of Princess Twilight Sparkle, Enlightened Despot of Equestria, Defender of the Peace, Lawgiver, and Commander of Fort Libris.
Twilight Sparkle is, of course, known to historians as the first usurper to seek to schedule a coup d'etat by appointment. But for other details- such as, "What is the longest recorded time a pony has gone without sleep?", "Is it true what they say about swans?", and, "Why is there an owlbear in the Equestrian Witness Protection Program?"- these documents provide the answers and much, much more.
This is ABSOLUTELY SERIOUS HISTORY from primary sources. If anything makes you think this is silly, ludicrous, or unbelievable, blame Discord.
