Princess Celestia is an ageless, immortal being. Almost entirely unique except for her sister Luna, and she was gone for a thousand years. One would assume that no other pony in the entire world could possibly be able to truly relate. One would be wrong. There is one other. He's no all-powerful alicorn. His greatest power is his intelligence. He comes and goes at will, but always seems to be there during her worst moment. Sometimes he has a different face. Once he was a unicorn. And at times, it seems she meets him out of order. But he's a fantastic friend. Simply fantastic.

*Note: Even more than "A Friend of the Night" this story is going to be more along the lines of a series of interconnected short stories. Some chapters might end up being a bit short as a result.*

Prince Blueblood is known as the first legitimate Crown Prince of Equestria, in a country that is experiencing its latest cultural and technological change. While he is known to many one of the most eligible bachelor in Equestria, many do not know he's also an owner of an up and coming company developing advanced technology.

After an annual show, Prince Blueblood and companion Gear Match are shot down and kidnapped by a mysterious group wanting him to help them build an advanced weapon of destruction Equestria's public has never seen before. Facing the possibility of being disposed once useless and the threat to his Country, Blueblood plans to build an elaborate suit of armor to help him and his companion escape captivity.

Unbeknownst to him, he took his first step in a larger world he had not known existed.

Of all the royal figures who lead Equestria, much is known of most of them. Celestia and Luna came from parts unknown and were offered the crown by the founders of the nation. Cadance was an orphan of distant noble descent who was raised by a humble village. Twilight was a lonely bookworm who eventually became one of the greatest heroes in history.

The prince, however, has very little in the way of backstory. How did he become a prince, since the title does not award itself? What is the meaning of his cutie mark? If he grew up with Celestia, as is sometimes speculated, then how did he get on with Princess Mi Amore Cadenza, or with Spike? While few are interested in providing answers for such an infuriating public figure, they nonetheless exist. This is one man's attempt to piece them together.

A/N: This idea struck me at midnight one night. Four hours later (yes, that's 4am) it was finished. Confound these ponies! They drive me to write fanfics!

Bear in mind that this story was written almost immediately following the debut of the final episode of season 1, and therefore some fanon personalities (specifically, those of the musicians, Octavia in particular) hadn't really been developed yet.

Funny story about this story. It was featured on Equestria Daily on May 11, 2011. Shortly thereafter, blogger had a massive crash and went down, causing a rollback of recent posts. This featured story just happened to be stuck on the very front page for several days, garnering much more attention towards it than I ever imagined! Most favorable, thank heavens.

In a time long past, Cadance lets loose her inner amateur daredevil.
Blueblood reluctantly helps her, because that is what brothers do for their adopted sisters, right?
Course it is! No matter how harrowing, scary, or gulp, messy things get, the prince will always be there for his favorite princess ever!
And she'll return the favor, right?
Sure.

In the year 2024 humanity once again broke the sky with fire as a new president gave funds to companies that were for space exploration. Within his first year he secured a deal with China, Russia and the rest of the superpowers come under a single agreement; the betterment of mankind. Within his second term we were working on machines to propel us farther than Mars and machines to look for detecting radio waves. Fifty years later we found nothing, we realized one of three things has happened we are the first intelligent species, we are the last intelligent species, or we are the only ones in existence. We cried, but we all knew what needed to happen we spread our wings and colonized. Now we discovered faster than light travel and our oldest need came back, the need to discover. One cycle of 24 hours (equivalent to one day and night on Terra/Sol 3/Earth) it all changed.

Following a review of her Royal Guards, Celestia decides that some changes are in order.

Afterall, the castle could always use more cleaning staff...

This story is a sequel to Prince Blueblood: The Politician

Prequel simply establishes Blueblood as a politician, no story elements present at all.

Princess Twilight Sparkle appears to have some trouble with politics, as her encounter with the yaks proved. On her second go-around, Prince Blueblood accompanies her for some valuable pointers. The buffalo incident and the yak incident were both resolved by Twilight's friends, not Twilight alone, and as a Princess, she needs a bit of help.
