There's really no way to prevent it. No matter how careful you are, regardless of one's dedication to personal cleanliness, they're going to get in eventually. And for most ponies, it's a moment of deep gross-out, followed by scrubbing down their entire pantry, kicking out far too much of what's in it, and ending with a regretfully expensive shopping trip to replace what was lost.
But this is Rarity. The situation was unacceptable. And her intention was to take out the problem at the source.
Now if she can just find a way of explaining that to the jury...

Missions are dangerous, and sometimes the Bearers get hurt. But this time, treating Pinkie's injuries only took about an hour. No sealant to constantly reapply and lingering deep aches from the wound: just a simple, magical regrowing of her left forehoof's keratin. Really, it's a pity the procedure isn't available to the public yet.
And because it isn't available to the public yet, there's just one little thing which the inventing company's representative wants Pinkie to do. One little thing that leads into a full swarm of not-so-little things.
It's okay. It's for science!

It wasn’t what I was expecting.
It is the middle of the night. Sweetie Belle cannot sleep. She thirsts for a glass of water.

This is a sequel to Melt, but can be read independently.
The common cold is, for Celestia, quite rare. Whenever she does catch one it's a time for privacy, reflection, and no shortage of small miseries.
That said, she's never had Twilight Sparkle on her side before. Maybe, just maybe, this cold won't know what hit it.
