No one was prepared for the second Chernobyl disaster.

The first one was already bad enough, scaring and poisoning the land with no possibility of future habitation. The second one was infinitely worse. In an instant, the ancient Ukrainian forests and decaying Soviet apartment blocks were made into something wholly other. Local wildlife was twisted and mutated beyond recognition, none residing within the zone at the time survived. A new unseen force moved throughout the landscape, twisting reality on a whim. And still, there are those either brave, stupid, or desperate enough to travel into this forsaken place. Their ideologies vary greatly, some seek to understand the Zone. Other's seek to destroy it in order to protect the outside world. And other's seek simply to profit off of it.

Regardless of their goals, they all go by the same broad term.

Stalkers.

One such Stalker, a man by the name of Nikolai, suddenly finds himself thrown into an entirely different kind of zone. One that you cannot escape from, and with a completely different set of hazards than the one he is used to.

The Equestrian Wasteland.

Once upon a time, on the not-so-magical planet Earth, there was a US Marine who signed up to defend his country. He was assigned to a fire team, the fire team assigned to a squad and the squad assigned to a platoon. Together they defended the area surrounding a Forward Operating Base in Afghanistan from insurgents. If only it were that simple.

When lone Marine is transported to Equestria he finds a post-apocalyptic wasteland. With no orders, no resupply and seemingly no hope of return, he sets out to find what brought him here, and why.

Strong Language Warning: He swears like a Marine.
Disclaimer: I'm not a Marine

What do readers have to say about this story?

"[T]his has to be the dumbest sounding plot I've ever heard of. But my god do you take that and fuck it in its ass ... Its just so real and witty and genuine that the whole premise actually works!" ComprehensiveBrony

"Yes, it's human-in-Equestria, but it's good. ... the action scenes had me sitting on the edge of my seat" Tebee

The Badlands, an area known for its unwelcoming and hostile environment, sits below Equestria. Although its environment is unfavorable for most ponies, here lies a refugee settlement aged by time. Chipbowl, once known as a refugee camp during and after the Great War, had been vibrant with instrumental potential. Years after the Gardens of Equestria, Chipbowl has transformed itself into a small-vibrant village for families of all species. As the environment isn’t and ideal area for the locals of Chipbowl to entertain themselves with, the residents had introduced themselves to the world of music. Genres such as bluegrass, blues, and jazz had gained popularity within the settlement; thanks to a popular duo named “Freebird”. The duo composed of Birdie, an earth pony, and Bassline, a gryphon. The duo had gained popularity in Chipbowl with their upbeat-blues-like style of music. However, as the years had passed, the duo fell into a rut.

The duo spent their whole lives revolving around the same ponies every day. Each performance the duo played; the same audience attended. The local bands and rivals the duo faced; unchanged. Every morning and night, the duo heard the same greeting; “good morning” and “goodnight”. The feeling of repetition had grown onto the duo. Their inspiration for writing and playing music slowly dwindled. However, hearing the stories of elders who had fled from Equestria to Chipbowl, had inspired them once again. There was a world outside of Chipbowl; an even bigger one that wasn’t surrounded by jagged rocks. Knowing very little about Equestria and what it may hold, the duo packed their instruments and traveled into the unknown. Living the life of experiencing no violence, conflict, or knowledge outside of Chipbowl had been a culture shock for the duo. With the dread of going back home, the duo has no choice but to face the wasteland.

This is a Fallout Equestria (primarily) and Terminator crossover.

As the war between Equestria and the zebras pressed on, many members of the Ministries conceived of desperate strategies to end it through magical and technological creations of questionable nature. One of these was Project Infiltrator, a top secret project of the Ministry of Awesome. It's goal: to create a super spy that was the perfect blend of pony and machine. But just as its first subject was ready, the megaspells dropped, destroying Equestria and creating the Wasteland.

190 years later, Crystal Eclair awakens in a world of ruin and violence, completely clueless as to what happened to Equestria and herself. Her confusion grows into horror as she discovers that she is no longer a pony, but now a cybernetic zebra. With no other choice left, she sets out to find answers to her predicament. How will she handle the truth if she finds it? Will she find friends who can help her in a world that trusts no one? And what if those who have done this to her are still out there, eager for her to serve a new sinister purpose?

PS. This is not a Prequel to Broken Steel despite what a couple of websites that link back to this story say.

Balefire bathed the land.

There were, of course, survivors…

The cities were scorched with weapons of untold power, the very land was soaked with poison, but the world was not destroyed, just a way of life. The first deaths numbered in the millions, but the death toll during the next year was even more staggering as ponies struggled to find water, food, and shelter amidst the ruins of the civilization.

In what had once been North Equestria, the survivors fought to prevail in a new age of sickness, balefire, barbarism and desperation. There were days of seemingly endless night, eerily lit by the glow of the pegasi’s cities burning in the sky. And then the sky was closed, blanketed by thick clouds that heralded an endless winter. Fetid swamps infected with magical radiation created new and terrible life forms. Windigo’s storms hurtled across the landscape with enough strength to level entire cities, and when by some freak chance a storm cloud swept in from the sea, it was warped, putrid rain that fell—balefire tainted water that stripped a pony to the bones in seconds of shrieking agony.

In isolated pockets, ponies survived and struggled against terrible odds.

Underground, ponies retreated into the safety of Stables and hoped to outlast the apocalypse.
