Anyway, we’re on a grid square that has no tactical importance whatsoever. The only reason those insurgents are camped out in those caves over there is so that they can attack our FOB’s supply route, and the only reason we have a base here is to try and stop them.

No no no. You’re not getting it. What I’m saying is, if we pulled out today, there would be no reason to have a supply route anymore, and the insurgents would gain total control of a useless fucking grid square. Woop de fucking do.

Very good explanation for him being there, totally reasonable, far more than most self-inserts (Which is almost certainly is. I have nothing against SEs on their own, unless badly written)
Quite a few future events that seem likely to occur. He will probably want to learn about the past, at least some, as a secondary objective. Also can't wait till he learns about how bucked up Canterlot is now.
Unknown (to character) Deadline, assuming no timeline alterations, namely the destruction of Canterlot. (unless *stargate* already destroyed)
Oh, and can't wait to see what kind of Reputation he ends up with.
Well, this was very good so far.
Everything I question about a situation was usually asked and answered by the character himself, the introduction of him into Equestria is quite acceptable, at least explained, his way back was given to him which really shocked me because some authors usually don't have any other way of giving motive to their characters other than investigating a way back.
I'm really impressed with the level of detail that was given in each chapter, the level of realism (To the obvious point) in this story is a nice refreshing take and finally the level of true psychological reactions of the main character makes him likable.
Oh, and the fact that you from the beginning state everything anyone could ever say against the way you describe thing is quite professional of you.
I approve.
This is one of those few stories that inspired me to do something. So thanks buddy!
