I shall follow it and give it a read.

Prepare to die, Sunset A lot. This should be fun.

I almost felt bad. Almost.

A DS3 crossover? Ok let's see where this goes. Also a little nitpick, why do you write Sunset as someone who don't know technology? Because she could be as smart as Twilight, except she doesn't pursue science like Twi. That doesn't mean she don't know anything. She did tried to experiment how the magic works in the friendship games short and she's also a model student.

11482838
I would assume you mean how she doesn’t know how to use the computer? I’d say that it’s less ignorance, and more her assuming: “Well, Twilight can’t figure it out, and she’s been doing this a lot longer than I have, so what chance do I have?” Not that she doesn’t know how to use it, just that this particular bit is over her head. Admittedly, I probably could have done that better.

But, if you’re referring to her not really enthusiastic about Twilight’s new invention, that’s more concern over what happened last time Twilight tried to build something like this. It’s not that the technology is bad, though, she just wants to make sure Twilight isn’t relapsing. This wouldn’t be too long after the whole “Midnight Sparkle” phase.

And the “hard drive” joke is just bad humor. I can’t defend that.

Either way, I’m glad you gave the story a chance. Thanks.

Yeah maybe you could have worded it out better. It really sounded like she don't know anything at all. Something I hate when people do because they simply either forget how smart Sunset is or they simply don't care. I mean she managed to be a model student in a world of science coming from a world of magic while she had to start straight up from high school and learn literally everything... maybe not maths but everything else. She just don't have the same drive for science like Twi does. She's apparently more into arts if what I remember from the shorts are anything to go by.

This looks promising. I'm gonna keep my eye on this.

11482880
No, don’t worry about that. She’ll have a lot of time to show off her intellect throughout the story. I know she’s pretty smart.

Of course, that’s assuming the whole death thing doesn’t rattle her too bad.

11482888
Oh yeah death. I wonder what you take on that is. I wanna see if it's like the one I have in mind for a future crossover of mine. We'll see. Can't wait to read more. This site needs more DS crossovers.

It's been so long since a new dark souls story was posted, one thats good that is.

Thank you. Glad I could help contribute to the cause.

I'm guessing losing memory is the beginning of going hollow? I don't think it's just simply forgetting everything but I guess that works. So is Sunset also an undead? How else can she resurrect?

Also about making things up and not using theories and everything, it's alright actually. The game's story is intentionally made vague so that the player can make thier own unique story. There is an actuall true story that Miyazaki wanted players to figure out together, and I guess people already did that but that doesn't have to be the story you want. The player is supposed to make up their own story as they play the game.

Hey, glad to see you came back for another chapter!

Yeah. A progress reset works for the games, but for a book, I thought dying needed a bit more of a kick to it. It’s kind of inspired by the Dark Souls 2 intro cutscene: “You will lose everything . . . your past, your future . . .” It starts as her just losing her memories, but eventually will start to lose more than that if she continues to die. As for your other questions, there will be some more explanation in upcoming chapters.

I’m glad to see a Dark Souls fic on this website, 3 is one of my all time favourite games

So far so good. Keep it up

11482251
This.
11482560
:rainbowlaugh:.
11482887
Also.
11482890
Damn right it does.
11483314
More chapters will help.

I really like how you've presented everything thus far, this has been a real gem!

Thanks. Glad you’ve enjoyed it.

“Prithee, be careful. I don't want to see m’ work squandered!” His hearty laugh echoed through the tunnels, bringing a sense of lightness to the dark, cramped space. I couldn’t help but crack a little smile.

Man, I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve heard those words

Do you have plans to include any of the side quests into the story?

I like this story so far, definitely think Sunset is the best character for this story.

I'm currently halfway through Dark Souls 2, after completing DS Remastered twice, and this story is making me even more hyped to play Dark Souls 3 once I'm done with 2.

Keep up the good work!

11582792
It won’t cover all of them. But I couldn’t do a Dark Souls story without Anri or the Onion Bro.
That said, they might not play out exactly like the game.

11583084
Hey. Always happy to hype up Dark Souls 3. I’m actually playing through it again to write this.

I hope you’re enjoying 2. Personally, I think it’s better than most people give it credit for, but I also love all the FromSoft games. I’ve actually been thinking about covering some of their other games in the sequels. I’m sure Sunset would love to visit Yharnam after all.

But yeah. Glad you’re enjoying. I’ll be interested to see how you think this stacks up against the real thing when you get to it.

11583170
Yeah, I wasn't expecting much from Dark Souls 2, but I was pleasantly surprised. It's definitely a different game, just with how it feels and some of the questionable gameplay design choices. However, it is a great game that still delivers that fun but challenging souls experience. My plan is play all three souls games in offline mode because I love the sense of loneliness in these dark worlds, then when I get Elden Ring at some point, I'll appreciate the multiplayer experience in that game tenfold.

Creative solution. If only she'd been able to invest in some vigor, though...

I remember getting my ass beat by the knight the first time I played 3, huge misdirect thinking it was just a heavier armoured hollow

11590309
What’s funny, I never realized the dragon could even hit up there until after I’d played DS3 enough to platinum it. And don’t worry, I’m sure she’ll figure out leveling up eventually. She has to do something with the souls she’s collecting, after all.

11591016
Yeah. Even to this day, I still have some issues with them. Especially the tower shield ones. I hope this chapter gets across the idea that the knight was a different league from the other hollows.

11591082
It absolutely does, you definitely conveyed it was not a fight she could’ve conceivably won yet by having it off her at the end there

Awesome, looking forward to seeing the undead settlement

And there goes my heart, breaking in twain.

Thanks for that.

Honestly, wondering if this story is gonna necessitate a tragedy tag sooner rather than later. Then again, Dark Souls...

Either way, this is written incredibly well, with really the only fault being some minor errors and other artifacts that could use an editing pass through; otherwise, this continues to be executed very well! I just hope I can continue along with the story without being completely emotionally ripped asunder with every area, but hey, gotta remain tonally consistent so who am I to say, heh.

11594075
The Undead Settlement is going to be interesting. I need to decide how to handle The Tree. I always skip him and come back completely OP. Gonna have to replay the fight at the proper level, see how it goes. Anyways, thanks for sticking with it so far.

11594103
Glad you’re . . . I don’t know if “enjoying” is the right word, but I’m glad you’re here.

Yeah, I know the editing could use some work. This is sort of a side project, so my editor is focused on my main story right now, and I’m not the best when it comes to editing my own work. If you see anything too distracting, feel free to point it out in the comments and I’ll fix it.

Anyways, thanks for reading. Hope it continues to live up to the expectations.

Really enjoyed the fight writing here; don't care if it's short, when it's keeping me hooked all the same :D

11599170
Glad you’re enjoying it. I like to try to focus on improving a certain type of writing with each story I do. Combat and action writing were a heavy focus for this story.

Yes! More chapters! This story is quite good.

11606347
Glad you’re enjoying it. Definitely seems to be on of my less popular ones, though.

The writing feels so comfy.
I don't know why but I like it.
Good luck!

I love how you're handling this story. It's refreshing for a crossover with a game to be a natural world without menus and huds popping up. The action scenes are pretty well written, and the descriptions of the environment are nicely done.

I've just started my journey of Dark Souls 3 now, and just slightly ahead of Sunset. From what I've seen, you've portrayed things pretty accurately so far. I've also yet to really decide on a build, so I'm just a naked woman running around with a Claymore. That bit about the mimic helped me since I missed that part of the level, thanks for that.

11606947
Don’t think I’ve ever heard my writing described like that. Still, I definitely take that as a compliment. Hope you continue to enjoy it and thanks for reading.

11606963
Yeah, when I was going over the initial premise for this, I wanted it to be around Dark Souls “the world” not “the game”. I actually keep the game open on my other screen while I write to make sure I’m getting the environments right. Studying the details like that definitely helps my writing, but also helps me appreciate the game in a whole new way.

The story is definitely slower paced than the game, though. I mean, ~45k words just to make it to the undead settlement. I think I definitely underestimated how long this story was going to be. Probably has to do with the fact that I’m used to speeding through the game at this point. I wanted this piece to act more like a first-timers’s journey through Lothric. With that in mind, I do love to hear it also somewhat functions as a guide.

Thanks for reading.

11607125
Honestly writing it like Sunset’s doing a play-through is a great idea, as a DS3 fanit’s nice to see her following the same sort of progression as the players.

11606963
Agreed its tiring seeing that SAO trope literally everywhere so this is a great change of pace.

Also fuck that mimic lol

11620565
Please don’t fuck the mimics. Not with those teeth.

Y'know, I'm shocked I hadn't favorited this yet. That's fixed now :)

Loved this chapter and interaction; even knowing there's a long road ahead, some good old-fashioned optimism is something I'll never bat an eye at, especially in a world like this where it's sorely lacking.

11620690
Thanks for the favorite.

And yeah, who better to bring hope and optimism than the girl that talked down Midnight Sparkle, ehh?
