Routine day with a dirt cheap brush, then a week goes by and it goes untouched. Then two, then three, then a month, and the rest of your life you beat yourself up. - Aesop Rock, "Rings"

A unicorn's immune system is bolstered by their magic. Any ailments they develop simply dampen spellcasting until things work themselves out internally. Stronger mages tend to not get sick at all, but Trixie Lulamoon is not a strong mage.

Life is a performance for Trixie. Disasters must be kept backstage and away from audience eyes. But the curtains are closing on her solo act, and somepony needs to notice so they can hop onstage to help her. She's too proud to ask for volunteers.

Cover art is the fittingly named Worn Out by the artist Purmu

This is an entry in the Snippet Series, an anthology of old oneshots that I (and my good buddy Str8aura) wrote based around interesting pics I found. New ones will be posted every other Thursday for the foreseeable future.

Cute, in a sad sorta way.

The final scene was a nice addition. I like it when characters talk while doing mundane things.

However... there are still a few mistakes.
What’s a “Manchester Prognosis”? It doesn’t seem to be a medical term, because when I searched it, the top result was about life expectancy in Manchester. (Also, don’t be silly Trixie, Manchester doesn’t exist.)
Winter Wrap-Up is the beginning of spring, so it’s not between the Running of the Leaves and Hearth’s Warming.

Felt the waxed wood under her frogs and herd the pulsing hvac in high ceiling over her and friend's heads.

What word is “hvac” supposed to be?

Heck. I guess Manchester Score ended up being too obscure of a medical term for even the search engines to know. Drat.

HVAC is an engineering term that means “heating, ventilation, and air conditioning.” I’ll change it to avoid confusion.

Interesting. Might read this later.

Yeah, there we go! Bittersweet!

HVAC stands for "Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning"

I enjoyed the story quite a bit for what it was. A good read that characterizes its focuses very well and does exactly what it set out to do.

Sad, funny, touching. All the best for the Great & In Remission Trixie!

There are a lot of tragic stories about characters dying to cancer. However, there are considerably fewer stories about characters surviving and recovering from it.

Damn, this is a good story

Good story. Little bit dusty over here. Thank you for writing it.

I hope Trixie's cancer doesn't come back for a sequel, and I truly mean that. It'd hit a bit close to home, for me at least.

I really like this story. As someone who lost a family member to cancer, I could relate to Starlight very well. Though this could have very well have been a much longer story, I think it was very well written and sweet. Well done and congrats on getting it feature

Gratz on being featured.

Very beautiful and uplifting. The scary unknowns, the lasting struggles, the feeling that things are forever changed yet friendship remains... Again I say; beautiful.

Also, obligatory f:yay:k cancer comment is very obligatory.

Pfft, it packs a massive punch for a short story. I've known ponies who have been through the cancer battle, and it hurts like Tartarus watching it unfold. But it's something we're learning to fight. The Great and Powerful Trixie - and so many others, for that matter - never go down without a fight.

Wow, I expected a lot more drama.

That hit surprisingly hard.
