"Show my head to the people, it is worth seeing." - Georges Danton

T

Rarity sits in her living room, far from Canterlot, enjoying what is to be her last glass of wine for the evening. Before her is a pad of paper, to record her thoughts, and a cocktail of narcotics that will be more than adequate at ending her life.

Another life lost in the City of Lights.

I... well, I don't think it would be appropriate to say I enjoyed reading this, but I am glad you shared it, and I can appreciate the emotions and tone and writing and everything that went into making a well-done piece of writing that feels very Rarity.

This was well written and succeeded at what it set out to do. I can't say I enjoyed the subject, and I was hoping for another ending, but that itself is proof you did a good job, I'd say.

Hearing "feels very Rarity" from you is high praise. Thank you, Mel.

Kinda the difficulty with writing this. Love the language, hate the outcome.

Goodness gracious, this was the most beautiful kind of heartbreaking. Most stories on this site involving suicide are insultingly shallow. This is a rare exception and a perfect example of how to approach such a difficult subject with realism and respect.

Thank you for sharing this story.

You're welcome and thank you for the nice comment.

Like I said before, I am no longer living, I am merely existing. I am hardly more than a drone, moving from a tiny flat to a studio and back again for five days in a row. What little free time I am fortunate enough to have is eaten up by social engagements I don’t care for and friends who are hardly worth the title, attempting desperately to keep myself sane, which clearly, I have failed to do.

That first line really stuck out, and I was reminded of the phrase “I’m not living, I’m just killing time”. (Thanks for that one, Thom.)

And thanks for offering a story different from other stories in the bomb. It certainly stuck out from what I’ve read so far,

That very much feels like the state of mind Rarity's inhabiting. And thank you, I did try and take a different approach with this story.

Reading this just before going to sleep was a bad idea. Way too intense.

It's the worst-case ending of moving to a different place for a dream carreer. Losing one's passion and direction, not finding a new group of friends, losing one's identity. It's what I and many of my friends are afraid of. And you captured it really well in few words.

It also reminded me of that guy in Cloud Atlas who kills himself.

Enthralling work

He claimed that this was the very same combination used to put down kings when they neared their own demise.

He's read that Twitter thread too, huh? :B

Very intense.
I... may have to quote you when the time comes.
