The world is mean and bleak. All that remains is acres upon acres of scorched earth with unimaginable levels of insanity strewn across it. The world is dead, deader than dead. What was harmony is now disharmony, nothing but a pure void of living Tartarus.

A soul that reflects on what the Equestrian nation used to be has one last and final thought of the downfall of civilised society. Where he stood when there was no disaster looming over the governmental powers of Equestria.

Rating:Teen (for themes)

There is some blood in this, but only used lightly, so if you are uncomfortable with visualising blood, reader discretion is advised!

IMPORTANT NOTE: This story isn't intended to be a Fallout: Equestria-related piece of fanfiction, but quite the opposite. It is a piece of work I wanted to try out as a test of how I build a gloomy, sympathetic and empathetic atmosphere in the setting of an apocalypse. Nothing more, nothing less.

This reminds me of a song, a sad song.

Jesus, this is sad. This is literally one of the saddest pieces of fiction I have ever read, and I have read "My Little Dashie," "Background Pony," and "Somewhere Only They (or We) Know;" it stands out because of its particularly strong prose. I commend you for writing this and I must ask what you were going through that motivated you to write this so long as it is not too personal. 'Cause this is some serious edge right here.

8061257 I'm glad it could earn your liking! :pinkiehappy:

In all seriousness and honesty, I wrote this without any negative thoughts in or on my mind, and that goes the same for motivation. It was nothing more than a piece of writing I wanted to put out there as a test of sorts for how well I can write atmosphere and emotions to give a specific feel, mainly because I'm writing a story in real life where such events are playing a theme on the plot.

From where I'm standing with this, I'm going to say I have earned a success with this one.

I literally wrote this to how I pictured it happening in my book, and I feel that it follows the theme of tragedy and catastrophe quite well.

One thing I want to ask you: on an empathetic level, could you sympathise with the survivor and see him clearly in your mind? What exactly did you feel and/or visualise as you read this, in detail?

Oh, and yeah, My Little Dashie was a truly heart-wrenching story. Probably the first piece of fanfiction from the MLP universe that captured my heart and earned a place on my all-time favourites list.

Lastly, thanks a whole lot for reading!

8061471 Yeah, I was able to empathize with the main character's struggles because you wrote them so well. You literally slowly watch how he, in a broken world, continually breaks along with it. I felt sad for him, especially since he was able to see the beauty in the lives around him that perished. He saw everything that was once magnificent as something now abominable, like the two dead foals who were interlocked with each other like a couple, never to be able to experience the love from each other ever again. You really set the tone very well.

Johnny Cash: "And I heard as it were, the noise of thunder, one of the four beast saying come and she and I saw, and behold a white horse."

Johnny Cash:"I looked in the mids of the four beasts an looked and behold a pale and his name that sat on him was death, and hell followed with him."
