The males go into rut and try to get a mate, but the females simply have swollen bellies filled with a clutch and a strong mental desire to have them fertilized. Rape and rough sex with the purpose of only breeding, no love involved, is likely not uncommon given how uncivilized and self-centered dragons seem in the show.

Of course, this is just my opinion.
