That's a nice, cute little story you got there

Caring Heart

Caring Hoof

Gotta make a choice here

SMACK! SMACK! SMACK! SMACK! SMACK!

That's a lot of spanking, a bit too much if you ask me
Two or three slaps would have been enough
But maybe she's enjoying it, I don't know, maybe that's her thing :p

The ending feels a bit rushed in comparison to the rest of the story. It sort of begs for more, about a hundred more words would have been nice

I really like how you made Caring Hearf :p slowly connect back with her inner child, how it evolved and how she became more playful and friendly.

Yeah, overall I liked it. Good job

I was wondering if she was too strict. But Button IS an earth pony and we've seen them take some serious punishment without even flinching. For him, it might have been only mildly painful. I really do need to decide on a name for Caring, thanks for pointing that out.

disgusting.:pinkiesick:
only incompetend and weak parents spank, it is the ultimate faliure as a parent.

I am so glad it counts as child abuse in the nederlands

6900178 Are you Dutch? I like the Netherlands, always wanted to visit.

ik weet het niet zo zeker.

Indeed I am. There is a surprising number of Dutch bronies seeing that the population is only 16 million (1/20 of the population of the US).
Though I don´t fully agree with that other guy´s thing against spanking I would say that Caring Heart isn´t a very good mother. You should never let your child decide your actions and especially not on their terms.

7339076 She's trying not to have an emotional breakdown and her judgement has been compromised. She's normally better. (Caring herself would agree with you, especially when she does have her breakdown in the second chapter).

One thing I often notice in comparison to Americans is that the Dutch often have a far more pragmatic mindset. They don't care as much about the morality and far more if it's beneficial or not. One thing that is especially disliked is trying to stand out. Standing out is completely accepted but to do actions for the sake of standing out is seen as a waste of time.
In a certain way you could say the Dutch are united by a shared greed. It's humility out of practicality rather than principal, why waste time and resources into doing something spectacular if you're not going to gain anything. It's the reason the Netherlands is so liberal, we just don't really care about things like homosexuality. If it's not in the way why object to it?
To many Americans Dutch seem quite conformist but it's a different kind. When Americans think conformism they think of 50ties shaming everyone who is different but it's not like that. As long as you act formally and direct people don't really care what you do or what you look like. Another strong thing about dutch culture is neutrality, after all choosing a side in an argument can cost you a business deal. They accept other cultures but don't fully support them.

Oh the problems of being a single parent.

Anti-spanking rants are written by those who have not dealt with a variety of child temperaments.

There are some children that receiving a disappointed look destroys their entire world.

There are others who do not notice that you are an actual animate part of the universe until the third or fourth strike.

Child abuse has nothing to do with spanking or not. Some of the worst abuse that can be done to a child does not require physical pain of any sort.

So what constitutes child abuse?

When you hurt a child in order to make yourself feel better. Wether this is physically, emotionally, verbally or any other method.

Withholding discipline when it is needed is child neglect, which can do just as much damage in the long run as abuse.

So, what’s the answer?

There are no easy answers. Parenting is hard work. Anyone who tells you different is trying to sell you something.

As a parent, you do you best, you make mistakes , and you learn from them as best you can, and you never stop trying.

So, what'd you think of the story?

The characterizations were excellent and the ideas made my heart hurt and then made me think. Very well done. As someone who has both a degree in Psychology and has raised two children to adulthood, I could nitpick a few things, but the story did its job well and is entertaining, so I give it an 8.5 out of 10.

This was one of the first Mash family stories I read, and it's stuck with me for years. Cream Heart is well characterised here and, whilst I personally disagree with physical chastisement, it's not a prominent aspect here and didn't detract from the read.
