Well she is in this story. In "I Never Wanted This" it was a matter of Celestia viewing Twilight as a daughter. In this one, she does have a very messed up obsession with Twilight, just like she did with all her former proteges. Luna will be the one with the proteges now and she is hoping to groom Sunset Shimmer to rule alongside her one day. She won't pull any of the same stunts as Celestia.

The reason Celestia didn't try to get another protege after Twilight left is because she had left a much bigger impact on her than previous proteges. Sunset Shimmer was the protege right before Twi and Celestia got over her departure rather quickly. With Twilight, that didn't happen. If I ever do a sequel to this, Luna will wind up stabbing Unicornia in the back and free Celestia....which is something that Princess Sunset will not be pleased over (yes she will be royalty by that point) and I'm sure you know how the royalty of Unicornia will react when Sunset notifies them.

If I do this, Celestia will be released from limbo and will be fully healed but I'm torn on what to do regarding her desire for Twilight....well whether she'd actually act on it. She will still have the unhealthy obsession over her but her time in limbo will have made her realize that she can't just go after Twi again....that and she will remember how Twilight was eagerly anticipating executing her. She will definitely be torn.

I'll admit, it's a cool story, I always reread it when I'm bored
But there's one thing I can't ignore, Twilight abandoned the only friends she had and spike because of celestia is a very questionable attitude to me, maybe she forgot about them...
I hope they don't feel betrayed
I also hope they return in the threequel, I bet spike will be the one who will feel the most betrayed and may twilight explain why she abandoned them

Damn man, you gave me ideas here. I was initially going to do a third story where Sunset was a princess and then Luna broke the promise and released Celestia. Of course this would require that they travel to Unicornia since Twilight won't as much as set hoof outside of it. In the story I had Twilight being so traumatized that she felt that fleeing Equestria and basically starting from scratch was the best option. By the time Celestia was cast into limbo, Twilight had done her best to try and forget most of her prior life. I know that sounds bad but that is how I wrote her in this.
