If, however, I needed a defense for this scene, then consider the following: Autons are mindless hunks of plastic, living only on one basic instinct, and that is to follow orders. Barring the specific instinct, does this sound like a fully sentient creature to you? As for how it affected the Nestene, they both share a psychic link, so what happens to one affects the other.

you know whats my favorite question...how can the doctor tell how old he is? hes a time traveler time isnt consistant with him so how can he tell when his birthday comes around? does he have innate knowledge of his age or is there a universal clock in the tardis?

Assuming I do choose to go that route later down the line (and I have no plans to at this point), I'm banking on the fact that living that long may cause you to forget a few things at least.

Always play stupid when interacting with a time traveler because you never know if it's your first time meeting them or their first time meeting you. That and you pick up a lot of spoilers it's kind of like cheating. Wouldn't want us to cause a paradox now would we.
