With Celestia out on vacation for a week, Cadance sees a fine opportunity to spend some time with her Auntie Luna, who's now in control of Equestria for that time. She's always known Luna to be a bit... different, but she never thought she'd find herself suspecting her Auntie Luna of trying to take over Equestria again. Ponies think they know magic. So when two travelers run into Rocky Point in the middle of the night, scared out of their minds by something magic apparently can’t explain, the town needs answers. Enter Trench Digger, a government agent from Manehattan tasked with investigating the situation. She’ll get to the bottom of things and unravel the mystery of just what happened on that night.

Not that she’ll share her findings with the town, mind.

Twilight Sparkle is asked by a child where Cutie Marks come from, and begins investigating. However, what starts out as simple research uncovers shadowy forces at work, and with each new clue, she learns more than she ever wanted to know.
