The neighboring kingdom of Aurora lays to the north of Equestria has always been reclusive. Much like there Queen Eventide, even through there generations of isolationism the diarchy of Equestria has always tried to form relations to no avail.
Queen Eventide had always respectfully decline the many invitations sent by Celestia. Mandatory meeting of the kingdoms was always visited by a trusted representative, and dispatching hardly sincere apologies as she declined to attend the celebrations. Yet to the princesses surprise the queen accepted to attend this years Grand Galloping Gala, why now of all celebrations?
Eventide, the queen, is a unicorn. As was her husband, King Astrid, who has sadly passed. And she to will pass on one day. The royal pony sisters had always wondered why she had not chosen a heir to assend to the throne on the day of her passing. But they didn't know of her only child, her heir. How did the festival in Starlight's village get its name? Perhaps a certain pony wandered into town one day, a pony who knows firsthoof about making a huge mistake, and what's needed for everypony to get over it...

In the middle of a city determined to bleed her dry, Apple Fritter is struggling to hold on to what little she has left. Then along came a debt collector named Strawberry Sunrise.

It has been many years since the war started...

Chrysalis and her armies rolled over our defenses, overwhelming our forces with sheer numbers. We fought a fighting retreat, always on the run from the swarm. We thought it would be over, that this would be the end of Equestria, and the end of Harmony...

But it was not so. We gathered our strength and held our ground, at last. Desperately our soldiers fought on and held the swarm off. Ponies took up arms to bolster our ranks or grabbed a tool to aid the war industry.

And now, after all these years, we remain in a stalemate. The Changelings adopted their own variant of total warfare. They launch raids on defensive positions at night, send bomber squadrons to destroy civilian centers all across Equestria and sink civilian cruisers out on the sea.

The war drags on, and my ponies grow tired of grieving the loss of their homes and loved ones. It is time for Equestria to commit to this war and leave behind our outdated principles of pacifism and harmony.

This war has brought upon us a new age. And with it, a new Equestria must rise!

It has been almost one year since Twilight Sparkle ascended to rule Equestria along with her friends. The turbulent times are behind them, even if the year has been shaky at best. With the Grand Galloping Gala rolling out soon, she is eager for a relatively straightforward night with her former mentor.

That plan, however, falls through when the mother of said mentor smashes the party and a chunk of Twilight's jaw.

Mahogany Bloodmist, Queen of the Vamponies and mother of the two retired princesses, turns out to be a much more abrasive pony than Twilight could have ever anticipated, and that's putting it mildly. Yet her presence puts into motion a series of unexpected turns that forever change the lives of those around her. Twilight is going to need to find a way to earn her respect and friendship if she has any chance of survival.

All the while, Starlight Glimmer becomes intertwined in the history surrounding the circumstances of her childhood.

Ever since confiding in each other about their greatest fears, things haven't been the same for Gallus and Silverstream.

Gallus in particular finds that he can't get the hippogriff/seapony out of his thoughts no matter what he does. But he's never been in love before, and he certainly doesn't have any examples to build off of.

Silverstream, meanwhile, is being plagued by reoccurring nightmares about the Storm King. Luckily, Gallus is there to help her through them. But can he use this opportunity to tell her how he feels? Or does Silverstream have her own ideas in mind?

More importantly, what do their friends have to think of this sudden development?
