The Electric Fireflies are one of the most popular techno bands in Equestria. Perhaps the most popular. The voice of an entire generation of music. There isn't anything Vinyl wouldn't do to get an autographed vinyl record of their latest album. And lo and behold, just what is the club offering as first prize for their 'dance till you drop' dancing competition? That's right, an autographed vinyl record.

Everything seemed great; Vinyl was one of the best groovers in the city, until she received the news that she would be providing the music for said event, and as such could not compete. With nowhere else to turn, Vinyl turned to her dear friend Octavia to win the record.

Now if only Octavia knew any dance move that wasn't 'the robot.'

Octavia has questioned many times about why Vinyl enjoys being a DJ and how she could stand the music she plays. But never once had it ever crossed her mind to ask Vinyl a very important question, of all the instruments that were available, why did she choose the turntable?

An argument between Octavia and Vinyl Scratch becomes heated, and Vinyl does something that threatens to tear their friendship apart forever. Dejected, depressed, and guilt-ridden, Vinyl attempts to drown her sorrows in several glasses of liquor, but soon discovers that hard-drinking won't help make amends, or make her feel any better about what happened.

She doesn't need words to speak. She doesn't need words to understand. A deeper connection lies between them. They have something greater than words. A bond forged over the course of only a day, but it will e the most important day of both their lives.

Much time has passed. Months, since Vinyl and Octavia were forcefully separated from each other. They don't know where the other is. They don't know how they feel. And yet they still can't get one another out of their minds. Across a city, with who knows what between them, can two ponies truly in love find one another?

At first, you thought this whole idea would be absolutely ridiculous. Why should you, one of the most popular DJs this side of Equestria, go to a classical music concert? It would totally be a waste of your time, because it's just not your speed! You're used to dropping the heaviest beats, not watching somepony drag strings across strings.

Until you listen to her play for the first time.

UPDATE 5/5 - WOW, I'm surprised this story got excepted into Twilight's Library, but it did! I'll get to updating this thing once I figure out some more plot stuff for it.

Vinyl Scratch lives the hard life. She doesn't make many bits a day, and her job is slowly growing old. No-one wants a DJ anymore, specially when Vinyl lives in Canterlot. Everypony is too upperclass for her music, and she slowly finds herself drifting into the shadows of the unknown.
She's desperate, and it falls to the hooves of one pony to truely understand her.

After the Gala, and Pinkies stunt with the Poney Pokey song, nopony will take Ocvavia seriously as a musician anymore. After weeks of hunting for a job and living off anything she can scrape together, she finds a very successful nightclub which is looking for new employees. A job is offered to her by the new owner of the club, Vinyl Scratch, and she takes it without a second thought. At first all they are are coworkers but Vinyl soon realizes that she wants to be more than that with the cellist.

Vinyl loves Octavia. Octavia loves Vinyl.
