A thousand years ago in Equestria, Luna's frustration and desperation has been building for years and years as her social and political isolation grows, but just before Luna's jealousy and resentment can turn into murderous hatred against her sister, a new event triggars Luna's mental collapse and pushes her over the edge. When Luna by circumstance finds herself alone in Celestia's room she reads her sister's diary out of curiosity and discovers all of the disparaging criticism that Celestia has leveled at her over the years about how much of a nuisance Luna has been to her, but has been too polite to say directly to Luna's face.

Luna and Celestia had always supported and stuck with each other all their lives. Even when the common-ponies critisism and shunning of her was at its worst, the knowledge that her sister loved her kept Luna going. The realization that nopony, not even her own sister valued her or thought she was fit for the throne completely shattered whatever remained of her fragile psyche.

And so Luna just gave up...

She gave in...

If no one wanted her there...

Then she wouldn't stay there...

She would leave.

Time is a fickle thing. It never seems to spend much time with you, nor does it seem to depart when you want it to the most.
This story is about an alicorn who has all the time in the world, but desperately wants to give it all away.

Having spent nearly a year in Celestia's court and by her side, the first and only human in Equestria is in rapidly deteriorating health. And despite all of her power, Celestia finds herself unable to help him.

(Written for the Most Dangerous Game contest, and in far less time than I would have liked. AU tag because for purposes of this story I'm ignoring the mirror world where Equestria Girls took place—this Equestria has no knowledge of humans in any way.)

Under the quiet of night, there's nowhere for Luna to hide from the things which haunt her.

Luna has fallen into a deep state of depression. Celestia tasks princess Twilight to befriend Luna in hopes that she may return to normal. But tragedy ensues when Luna coaxes Twilight to break the rules Celestia had set forth.

It's a simple tale that you've likely heard before. You woke up in Equestria one day, made some friends, grew close to Princess Celestia, and got married to said princess after she retired. Now, the two of you enjoy a nice, quiet life in your quaint Ponyville home.

Well, when you aren't getting involved in any number of strange, magical adventures, at least.

Equestria has always been ruled by two Princesses, but that's not always been the case, has it? Even years after being freed from exile on the moon, Luna feels that her place is no longer in Canterlot. Perhaps it's time for a change. Perhaps it's time for something...radical. Perhaps it's time to quit.

Originally written for the Quills and Sofa's Oct 11 Panic, where I completely deviated from the prompt in order to write something cozy.

Celestia is saddened upon the realization that she doesn't have any friends. Upon a suggestion by Luna, Celestia decides to disguise herself as her younger unicorn form. She travels to Ponyville in an attempt to make a friend, and maybe she'll be able to finally make a friend.

When Luna became Nightmare Moon, it was not of her own volition. She was sick. She was angry and scared, but mostly, she was sick. And when she needed help the most, she was abandoned by the only pony who could understand her fully. Now that she's back in Equestria, she doesn't feel she can trust her own sister. And if the magnanimous Princess Celestia can't be trusted, who can be?
