Rarity, the personal student of Princess Luna, defeated Daybreaker with her new friends and reawakened the lost Elements of Harmony. With Princess Celestia's return, the long-lost tradition of the Summer Sun Celebration is going to be revived for the first time in a thousand years - but first Celestia will need to reclaim her power over the Sun!

Don't worry, there's no previous story you missed that explains the setting. I was thinking of which characters could have their roles swapped, and I got to thinking - what if I just switched everyone? Depending on how people like this, I might write stories centered around other swapped pairings.

this is the story of Equestria's lost princess, she just doesn't know it yet
Midnight was given to an orphanage as a baby so she never met her birth parents properly.
years later she gets taken in under the wing of princess Luna soon becoming great at magic eventually being able to raise the stars at night which is how she got her cutie mark

From birth, Luna was a gifted unicorn.

So gifted, in fact, that Princess Sunset, the Solar Diarch, personally took notice of her abilities when she applied to attend Princess Sunset's school for the Gifted and Talented. When her pegasus sister, Celestia, hatches a phoenix egg, their entire life is changed.

Now, as Princess Sunset's personal students, the two sisters must figure out why sources of knowledge are disappearing, being stolen, or forcibly taken by dark shadows. Could the weird behaviours of the changelings explain the reason?

The one thing they do know is that something dark and powerful is plotting something in the shadows. And only they can stop this evil.

And why does Princess Sunset insist that the situation is nothing to worry about?

Princess Celestia regrettably banishes Princess Luna to the moon for a thousand years. The princess of the sun laments over her sister's children, allows them to share in Luna's punishment, and curses her two closest followers.
Over the course of a thousand years, the ancient race of bat-ponies flourish in the secluded woods of Hollow Shades, developing their own culture and traditions.
Luna's banishment comes to an end. She goes to visit the bat-ponies in their forest, and discovers something amazing.

Discord has been defeated. Princess Celestia and her younger sister, Princess Luna, confronted him, and they defeated him. However, due to Discord's accusations, Luna starts to doubt if Celestia should be ruling.
