"Hey! Hey!"
Sound did odd things, Applejack reflected. It was more than just vibrations in the air. It could transfer, sometimes, very specific types of energy. If Applejack had to guess, what Rainbow was emitting right now was something called the 'trouble particle'. Applejack had observed it quite enough times to recognize it when it surfaced.
"What is it?" she asked, regretting the very day Rainbow was born. A small, thin box hit her square in the forehead. "Ow!"
"Power up the Pega Dreamcast! I got a game for us!"
Applejack picked the box off the floor where it had landed, still nursing her head. "Really? Now?"
Rainbow snuck up behind her with the stealth and subtlety of a forklift. "It's for a really awesome occasion, I promise!"
Applejack couldn't help but relent. She had learned from experience that it was quicker to just let these things run their course. Besides, Rainbow's 'episodes' were quite possibly the most exciting parts of her week.
The console was plugged in and in went the game.
"So, you know Ponycalibur?" Rainbow asked. Applejack shook her head.
"Nope."
"Well, neither did I. Anyway. Apparently, they have, like these weird 'guest star' characters in their games."
Applejack's past experience was already screaming at her, and her hoof slowly went to rub the area between her eyes. "Uh-huh."
"Well... guess who the guest star is this time!"
"...gimme a minute," Applejack replied, feigning ignorance. Rainbow's patience failed to win out.
"Me! I'm in the game!" As the character roster shot up on-screen, Rainbow flicked the controls to select her character. Which was, as a matter of fact, herself. Applejack's jaw dropped. "Now I can play with myself all day long!"
Red crept across Applejack's cheeks, and her ears flattened as embarrassment took over.
"They've... uh..."
"I look awesome! And apparently, I have a sweet set of fighting moves too. Who knew? I never actually took fighting lessons."
"They changed your look a bit, didn't they?" Applejack said, each word carefully considered. Rainbow nodded.
"I know! My wings are huge!"
"And your, uh... tail is awful small," Applejack pointed out.
Rainbow went quiet for a bit.
"What's wrong with my tail?"
Applejack backpeddaled.
"Nothin's wrong with your tail! It's just a bit, uh..." Her eyes shot away to the side. "Distractin'."
Rainbow tilted her head to the side, frowning. "Why?" she asked.
Applejack swallowed.
"No reason."
Rainbow shrugged to herself. "Anyway! Want to play a round?"
Applejack's eyes kept going back to the area barely concealed by the tiny fragment of what remained of Rainbow's tail. Then her eyes shot to the game box.
Rated M for violence and sexual content, she read. Her blush deepened.
"How about we try story mode?" she asked.
"Uh, sure! I was going to do a practice round first, but if you want story mode... Wait. Can I play as myself in story mode?" She snatched the box up from the ground. "Am I even in story mode?"
Applejack adjusted her position on the couch. Videogames had decent cut-scenes these days, right?
"Maybe we can see if you can select your character. If you can, then we know you're in it."
Rainbow nodded. "Yeah, great idea!" She hovered her selector-thing over a few settings. "Two player... story mode." She lit up with excitement. "Yeah! I'm in it."
Thank heavens, Applejack thought.
Five minutes later, she had selected a character of her own. He looked pretty cool. He had a cowpony hat too. And a cool looking sword.
"Let's go!" Rainbow exclaimed, mashing buttons as soon as the fight began. "Wow! I'm really flexible in this!" She looked over at Applejack. "Hey, are you even playing?"
"Huh?" Applejack stammered, and then began spamming attacks. "Right!"
"Jeez! Who knew I could do the splits like that?"
"Hey, Rainbow?"
"Yeah, AJ?"
"We should play videogames more often."

And that is why this is NOT realistic.
The Wonder bolts are part stunt team part racers. Athletes basically... and most sports as well as air shows are seasonal. Air shows in particualr seem to be mainly April-September, with a few shows in elsewhere, that leaves October-March as the off-season. Whilst training is important to stay in shape, you don't need high-tech equipment to do so as a flier. RD has nothing but the open air and she is an amazing flier.
So, if AJ & RD were a couple, they would have half a year where they would have plenty of time with each over. Now admittedly part of that will fall into harvest time, but I think RD actually helping out on the farm would bring them closer considering how important the farm is to AJ.
AJ doesn't have to move at all. She sees RD for half the year, and even during season I'm sure RD would vist as often as she could.
I'm afraid you are the one that really has no idea.

Nope, fraid it is you who still has no clue.
You are basing their lifestyle from real life air events, instead of what is established by the story. The story is saying that the wonderbolts do not stop touring except for very short holidays. A relationship can only go for so long under those circumstances.
The scenarios would be either:
1. AJ gives up her life on the farm to follow RD to all her shows so giving up her life to live RDs dream.
2. RD gives up her dream to live with AJ on the farm.
3. AJ stays on the farm, RD goes with the wonderbolts and they very, very rarely see each other.
The first 2 scenarios would create resentment between RD & AJ for them not being able to live their respective lives. The 3RD scenario would eventually result in 1 or both of them being unable to see a future for their relationship.
If they story followed your ideal of the wonderbolts only touring for a few months of the year then of course they could maintain a relationship. Anyone who works for the armed forces, for example, would be able to relate to that.
But the story does not work from that ideal. It has based itself on the fact that the wonderbolts tour all year, every year and so the story is a very accurate portrayal of how their lives would play out.
Your head canon is that the wonderbolts would only tour for a few months a year. If the story does not follow your head canon & you don't try to look at it from the stories perspective then you will not be able to appreciate the story.

Nope. Fraid I do have a clue and you don't.
You are talking about how the story is a 'realistic' portrayal of a relationship with a top-tier sports star for someone that is far from a top-tier anything. Therefore, the Wonderbolts season must be realistic as well, hence the comparison to the closet thing we have to them. Air Shows. Which is a 6-month season, with a few shows outside of it.
This is not talking about my 'headcanon' that the Wonderbolts functions like ANY sporting organization and works in seasons, but the fact you claimed I hadn't a clue and that the story was 'realistic'. If you are going to argue about realism, then the entirety of it must be realistic. Including the Wonderbolts live style.
If you are instead going to talk about how I cannot appreciate the story for well displaying the conflict that would happen between AJ & RD if they can hardly see one another. Then I will point out that it is stupid to believe that all RD would get is small breaks. If all she and the Wonderbolts would get, they would swiftly get exhausted. Either mentally or physically, and for a stunt team. Such exhaustion would be deadly. Hence the reason I cannot appreciate the story, is that it doesn't make sense at all.

You really didnt bother reading what I put down did you? I had said that the story is a realistic portrayal of what would happen if they were in a situation where the wonderbolts toured all year. I didnt claim you couldnt appreciate the story for its conflict only that you werent taking into account the fact set by the story that the wonderbolts were never "off-season"
The story was not comparing the wonderbolts to a real life airshow, neither was I. You made that comparison so you were changing the setting of the story to suit your own ideal.
I had already said that if the wonderbolts WERE like a real life airshow & had an off season, then of course the relationship could work. maybe you skimmed that part. You have to appreciate the fact the story is not working like that, going by the story the wonderbolts are touring all the time from place to place. See my previous comment about the situations that would arise from that.

'a realistic portrayal of what would happen if they were in a situation where the wonderbolts toured all year.'
That's the thing. You are going on and on and on about how this is a realistic portrayal of a situation. Yet you are cherry picking what exactly is so 'realistic' about the situation, and blantenting ignoring that the very situation ITSELF is completely unrealistic.
I am not 'changing the story to suit my ideal'. I'm being realistic in that almost every sport that exists has an on-season and an off-season. Now Wonderbolts are more than a sport team of course, hence why I compared them to air-shows as well, but even if you disregard that. The fact that the Wonderbolts perform all across Equestira, not across the world means that they are limited to being a national activity. Which means that the likelyhood of them having a 4-6 month off-season is quite high.
This isn't me unable to ' appreciate the fact the story is not working like that', it me calling the story out on the fact that this premise is complete and utter bullshit.
XDDDDD, love it!
*falls into a gutter*
That rating though...
Applejack, turn that dirty brain off!
