āAnd they lived happily ever after.ā Applejack smiled passively and looked over the foal staring at her wide-eyed.
āIs that the end of the story, mommy?ā The foal asked pensively.
Applejack nodded and pulled the foal into a sideways hug. āThatās all. Did you like it?ā
The little filly nodded vigorously. āIt was awesome! I didnāt know you could write words with a rainbow.ā
Applejack smiled and brushed a few loose blonde strands away from the fillyās rose-colored eyes. āYou sure can. Itās probably the flashiest way to ask a pony to marry you.ā
āIām going to do that when I grow up! I want to be cool just like the pegasus in the story.ā The filly exclaimed while her wings buzzed with excitement.
āYouāll make the pony you choose a very happy pony. Iām sure of it.ā
The filly nuzzled upward into Applejackās chest. āJust like in the story?ā
āYeah. Just like in the story.ā The words trailed off as Applejack involuntarily pulled the filly closer to her chest.
āMommy?ā
āYes, sugarcube?ā
āI wish there was more to the story. Why did it have to end so soon?ā
Applejackās throat tightened and she kissed the fillyās forehead gently. āSometimes... thatās how stories are. Just because they end, doesnāt make them any less happy.ā
The filly pouted quietly. āI still wish there was more. Did they have more adventures together?ā
Applejack blinked and looked to the ceiling. āYes. Yes, they did my little one. Wonderful adventures.ā
This brightened her daughterās spirits considerably. āWhat about little foals?ā
Applejack looked into those hopeful, beautiful, nostalgic eyes of the filly in her hooves and smiled. She couldnāt lie to her. āYes, they had a beautiful little filly. A filly they loved more than anything in the world--even themselves.ā
āMommy?ā The filly reached up and gently touched Applejackās cheek. āMommy, why are you crying?ā
Applejack sniffed and squeezed harder. Her hooves gently stroked over the permanent scar on the little fillyās side. āItās nothing. Just a little dust.ā
This didnāt seem to satisfy the little filly as she looked up at her mother questioningly. Spreading her little hooves wide she wrapped them around Applejackās sides as much as she could.
āI love you mommy.ā
Applejack choked and buried her face into the mane of her daughter. She breathed in the comforting scent and hid her tears. āI love you too... my little Dashie. We both love you so much.ā
Are you sad now? Just imagine she's talking about a break-up/divorce. AJ still loves Dash and she doesn't realize that Dash also still loves her.
Fun fact: They probably get back together two hours from the end of this story :)

I'm Curious is there more to this chapter?
The burden yet power of parenthood...
I want to know how does Rainbow Dash die.
Y'now, that AN is a wonderful way to ruin the story :l
I was really sad until I read the fun facts they made my day much better. But I was ok with the sad too it made for a very touching story.
2691625 if you had read the authors notes, you'd know she didn't die. Also yours awards yaoi is for m/m stuff right? The word mistress doesn't really work next to it.
