Just FYI, Feathered Hearts has updated. See if you got the notification this time?
update! o my god... I think i grew a second heart and it broke out of pure joy...
Send for 911... So i share my joy with them
Thanks again Firesight for another amazing chapter. I have to say that this was a high point of my day when I saw this chapter get put up and I am supremely happy to hear you'll be posting another two chapters soon. BEST CHRISTAMAS GIFT EVER!!!!! Thanks again for all the hard work you put into making this story a reality and I wish that you have a happy Christmas. Cheers!
Politics Just great
Beautyful dumpster fire
Great chapter!
Looking forward to the War with the forces of Undead and parasitic insects. Hm... Wonder if Changelings would aid the Griffon's or leave the conflict all together...
Oh boy someone got a big load coming,i suspect the dear captain.
I hope we get a chapter with the culture training lesson.
11081428
You’re welcome, and I certainly do appreciate the enthusiasm!
“911, what’s the Emergency?”
“Feathered Hearts just updated!”
“We’re on our way! Pop some corn and bookmark the story for us!”
11081467
It’s inescapable, especially nowadays. But in fairness, There’s a reason Moran is acting this way you’ll find out about later. Let’s just say he’s kind of like General Squall Line from Firefly in that he’s very good at what he does but also has a wounded soul from a very bad mistake in his past.
Thank you!
The war should arrive by Friday, with the 3rd and final leadup chapter launch!
I’ve already thought about the Changelings, and you will get an answer to that. Suffice to say, they know what the Cloven are and where they came from. And they know only too well what a Cloven victory would mean.
11081447
And comments like this are the high point of MY day! Thank you very much for saying so!
Happy Christmas to you, sir! 🎅🎄And thanks as always for commenting!
11081476
You’ll certainly see!
Is Tuesday night soon enough?
11081499
The 911 joke made me choke on my spit from laughter! Brilliant
Hooo boy. That last meeting there had me holding my breath.
Damn Moran is being pigheaded. I'm not going to make the obvious joke, though.
this is a awesome chapter.
but the way the shit head of a Captain is talking the the griffons it would not surprise me to see him blown down to privet and scrubbing out door shitters in the Antarctica.
or more fitting gutted and his head hanging on a pike as a reminder to all humans of who is really in charge.
11081395
Thanks again for the note, I did not get an update again...
This chapter was a political firestorm, I mean wow this could have gotten ugly... still could honestly...
Look I found a Vinyl mini of Capt. Moran

All jokes aside, the Cap is honestly doing his job. His job is 'securing safety', not playing nice. Even if we all think he is being a moron... Moran... oof...
Man, that guy's really asking for an entire legion to line up and take turns kicking him in the dick.
11082172
Try unfollowing and then refollowing. Do the same with tracking.
11082478
I have done so. Lets hope it worked, will know upon next update :)
11081505
You’re welcome!
11081783
Be ready to hold it some more. This ain’t over yet.
11081792
Why not? I would!
11081866
Thank you very much!
Well, let’s just say for now everybody is going to get a very rude wake up call shortly about what’s petty posturing and what’s actually important.
There’s a reason he’s like this. You’ll find out why in due time.
11082176
11083166
"I can't believe each and every one of them kicked you in the dick!"
*pained squeal from vegeta*
Methinks Gilda remembers Pinkie Pie's particular piece of party paraphernalia projector?
Wait, why would griffons play and spar in a latrine?
🦅🦁They ARE part-cat, you know!
Um... The three parts of Lord of the Rings was just the second half of a six movie trilogy.
Besides, they should at least get to see how our dragons compare to theirs.
Oh, you'll be answering to Ambassador Strenus, should he decide the continued presence of your mission is no longer in the interest of the Griffon kingdom. And don't forget, he's got a much closer relationship with the Equestrian rulers than a bunch of off-worlders, too. In which case, you'll need to be explaining a lot to a couple of winged unicorns/horny pegasi--at least one of which will only be sorely disappointed, while the other will be extremely grumpy at being woken up to hear a bunch of arguing--it likely won't go over very well for you, Captain.
In fact, Captain, you'll be lucky to even still be a lieutenant before you get back to Earth (if only due to the time it takes for the paperwork to finish being processed) if the diplomatic mission ends up getting rejected because of you.
Ah, interspecies culture clashes. Humans are going to have to work through a lot more of those as they establish a presence on this world. Those griffon culture classes can't come soon enough.
Captain Moran isn't just fighting the last war, he's also outing himself as uncomfortably duplicitous to the locals. After all, if you can only see a romantic relationship in the context of espionage, what does that say about your own trustworthiness and duplicity?
On the other hand, what he considers espionage is at times... oversensitive. How would he treat some hyper-advanced beings from another universe who came out of nowhere and want to conduct trade deals, all while wielding impossible wonders and unknown weaponry? Ah well, it's not like he ever trained for this situation. Nor did anyone else. That's what those cultural sensitivity courses are for, after all.
It's coarse and rough and irritating... and it gets everywhere.
Bravo for Marco. No shame in dirty fighting when you can't beat them cleanly.
Yeah, taking a moment to cool off definitely seems wise here. The question is whether the captain plans on just going to the ambassador for a simple, quick, and horrendously short-sighted solution. And whether the ambassador is himself short-sighted or vindictive enough to grant it.
Sorry if you already answered this question but if I read the original where do I start reading this as to not repeat chapters.
11083869
At the beginning. The reason is the story is dramatically upgraded with a ton of new scenes and content, which was one of the conditions of the mods allowing me to post it--it had to be different enough from the original to make it more or less new. Even the early chapters are at least 60% different. The first fully original chapter is 6.
If you want more info on the new version of the story and what it’s trying to do, check out the introductory blog.

How about in tonight’s chapter release?
He is indeed fighting the last war, but as you’ll find out going forward, there’s a reason he’s acting this way. As Staff Sergeant Stafford said, he had very bad experiences trusting locals in the past. As in, bloodily bad.
In his mind, he’s doing what he has to do keep those impossible wonders and unknown weaponry secret as per his orders, and he just can’t fathom that Gilda would be genuinely interested in Marco.
Oh, go screw a Senator, Annie.
That’s our favorite Flip-boi!
You’ll get the answer with tonight’s chapter release. Hope to see you then!
11083385
Nice.
Not really. In terms of story timeline, yes, but LoTR was released long before the Hobbit series, and they needed a lot more cake makeup on Orlando Bloom in the latter to keep him looking young enough.
True. Smaug is an excellent specimen. I’m sure they’d find it curious how perfectly we were able to depict dragons without actually having them in our world.
Well, he might get the chance to explain himself in person later!
Maybe, but very shortly, the diplomatic mission is going to be forgotten. The spectre of the Cloven rises as we speak, and war is nearly upon them. And then you might actually need a commander with a siege mentality.
No idea what problem he has this might spell his replacement for all that was ask and talked about...
That escalated rather quickly... Annnd went to shit...
11139328
It might, but there’ll be no chance for it before the Cloven strike.
Indeed it did. The question to ask yourself is, why is he suddenly acting so differently...? The answer will be important later.
This is great so far, I moved to this almost immediately after finishing the original and you've managed to hold my ritalin-addled attention span. I just have one question, wasn't Lord of the Rings on the stolen laptop? Or am I misremembering a detail probably nobody else even cares about?
11318860
Welcome! Glad you’re enjoying it so far. To answer your question, yes, it was. In the original version of the story, they watched at least the first two movies of the trilogy before leaving Arnau. Here, there is at least an intention or suggestion of watching it, but this time they won’t get to it before they have to leave Arnau. That’s not to say the movie can’t be seen much later, though.
Applying human tactics and thought processes to a alien culture is very stupid. There are implications yes, similarly as well, but at this point we just have one incompetent military and political leader at the human side
If you'll pardon my 🇫🇷, Captain Moran is an Asshole.
11427086
That he is. The question is, why is he suddenly acting this way when he didn’t before? There’s a reason, and it’s an important one.
i remember when I was in the military and I met the drill instructor the first time, I was terrified. then, I realized that the guy was only a bit worse than my dad when he's drunk, and I think I was the only one who had a relaxed face on the second day, because the instructor came up to me and screamed at me for five minutes.
fighting fair is for pussies
11430986
Sounds about right. My own experience with boot camp was just a week long—”Orientation Week” for my ROTC unit. I still didn’t do well at all with it. We had a single Staff Sergeant who was previously a DI teach us how to march, but he took it pretty easy on us. It was the student officers who were the hardest and in our face constantly.
11430991
Well, griffons are half-pussy(cat), so...
Funny how americans in leadership are fine doing it, but can't accept shit if it's done to them.
Great training, to bad after this chapter future sparing looks very unlikely.
American gavourment has a neck to create enemys to keep the military interest running...

Absolutely hilarious ♤♡
The only guns we should ever trade:

Where can I order it?
Edit: 'Nevermind found it'.
This disrespect is born out of personal biased, while not unfounded it is very misplaced.
Great chapter.
Politeness never costs someone anything, it always pays out in turn.
Are americans really that incapable of professionalism?
Showing respect or disrespect is a very powerful message in itself.
American leaders only seem to be calm and polite if in a position of superiority, otherwise acting like spoiled and unreasonable children.
Adulting isn't teached in America?

I was almost hoping that in his anger and clear distaste for the alien freaks he'd pull his sidearm or something along those lines.
But yeah, unless you are mega rich, mega powerful, or mega connected, you mean diddly-squat to the powers that be.
11712619
I live here, and amongst the powers that be and their brown-nosed boot-lickers respect is "for me not for thee," like Dana earlier in the story and more than one character in the FiM Canon.
11435176
I did a week-long mini "boot camp" in the NJROTC and yeah first day 😏"welcome to camp...🤬FIVE MINUTES TO FALL IN MOVE MOVE MOVE" I had to bite my tongue a couple of times to not eep. But yeah after that aside from a couple of issues with some other squad members they dialed it back a fair amount.
As to the Captain, I was almost hoping he'd pull his sidearm because it's clear to me that any diplomacy will be of the screw the alien freaks over variety. It's a wonder they didn't pile into Equestria guns and whatnot blazing. (Orders from the 21st cushy chair squadron out of DC)
11792825
Nah, he’s still got some sense, though as you can see, he’s not above intimidating others with a show of force.
The Captain is not himself right now, for reasons that will only revealed later. Suffice it to say for now, the Ibex haven’t given up trying to thwart a human-griffon alliance.
11792825
Yeah. Like you, it turned out the military was definitely not for me and I eventually got disenrolled from ROTC. Which is not to say I don’t still have a strong interest in the military and respect the hell out of those who were able to serve in it.
Though I don’t even remotely trust the current crop of self-serving DC generals, admirals and bureaucrats who are more interested in various irrelevant social initiatives than fighting, the original story was written when we still had a modicum of competence in the upper echelons. I’m assuming (generously) that that modicum still exists, or at the very least, they knew to send their best as opposed to the not the far-too-large TikTok brigade who aren’t exactly up to standard or serving out of patriotism.
If nothing else, you’d think that they’d be told to strictly respect the alien culture and cause no issues, and honestly, I think it’s a stretch that they would be sent over with guns at all. But they did and we’re rolling with it, as future chapters will show.

Time for diplomacy. Unfortunately I doubt that bitchboy of a diplomat can stay unbiased like the cow that got a spar visit for complimentary agreements to their benefactor.
