Thanks again Firesight for another amazing chapter. I enjoyed a lot of parts about this chapter as well as the additions you added to this chapter from the original, such as Marco and the group telling the ambassadorial aid to F-off and the Saucy/intimate moment in the latter half of the chapter. I also noticed the better and more in depth explanation of Guns that the group gave Gilda this chapter compared to the first story, and It was a marked improvement. I'm really getting more hyped up with every chapter you release as we get closer to where the first story left off. I am really excited to find out what will happen plot wise in the near future and find out answers to questions like, Where did the Cloven come from or if Ponies from Equestria or Humans from earth come to aid the Griffins against this existential threat in the form of the Cloven. I wish you the best of luck with writing your next chapter, and as always have fun writing.
shit that is going to be a rough march, and make for some really grate chapter's.
this chapter is so much more then it looks. there are no stronger friends like the strength of a friendship forged in battle.
amazing is just to soft for how good this chapter is.

Very much appreciated!
I’m very glad to hear it! I admit I was worried about how the sauciness would be received. I enjoyed writing both scenes.
Again, thanks. My favorite movies prominently feature boobs and bullets, so I wanted this chapter to more or less do the same.
Then as far as I’m concerned, I’ve done my job, and I’ve done right by the story.
This is one of the questions DEL left completely open. He gave us no inkling of an answer in the original story. So I’ve come up with an origin for them, including why they’re named that. I promise you will get the answers eventually, but with apologies, you’ll have to wait until later in the story.
Short answer: yes. And for now, I’ll leave it at that, except to say that the answers to where the Cloven came from will have to wait until they arrive.
Thank you very much, and thank you for such a wonderful comment! It’s very much appreciated.

Thanks for the vote of confidence! Here’s hoping I can deliver...
And thanks for such kind words! I admit I was initially nervous how this would be received given the R-rated action, but it appears to be hit so far. Thanks for the feedback, and I greatly appreciate the enthusiasm.
and on that day Gilda became edumacated in gats
I wonder if they would've let Bruce Banner carry a nuke in.
You have accidentally tripped over one of the few pet peeves I have:
"...Over" means "I'm done talking, waiting for a response."
"...Out" means "I'm done talking, not waiting for a response."
"...Over and out" means "I'm done talking and simultaneously waiting and not waiting for a response."
Please, one or the other. You can't do both.
Some other words that might be helpful:
"...Break" means "I'm not done talking, just taking a breath."
"...Wait" mean "I'm not done talking but need a few seconds before continuing." (ex: someone just ran in with some new information that you need to pass along)
"...Wait out" means "I'm not done talking, but will temporarily clear the line as I take care of something." (ex: someone just ran in with a lot of new information that you need to pass along)
"Say again" means "Send that last transmission again."
"Repeat" means "Hey artillerymen, fire at that last location you just hit again. It needs even more artillery shells because the bad guys there haven't learned to properly die yet." (never say "repeat" over a radio unless you want the FA to send more rounds to their last location)
Good chapter :) by chance have you read the book series the original Feathered Heart was referencing?
Additionally, the 28 rounds in a 30rd magazine makes administrative reloads easier, but is not necessary to do. Can’t think of anyone I knew that was in combat that didn’t load to 30. Just have to whack the mag to make sure it seats.
Nice, cooperation is free to bloom and the Cloven will find themself strongly opposed where ever they meet human forces.
nice quote wonderful story

Love the education and you'r humor. Nice 👍
I see your Patton-isms and raise you...

Ton of gun porn last chapter and this one, good plot development, and the shaky comms was a nice touch. Really adds to the hopeless feeling our poor cast is feeling. Can't wait to see how rough a 30 league hike will be for intrepid hero's. Will Guerrero kill a bug, will Imley break out the pocket nukes we all know he is hiding, will Mister Raleigh find his courage? who knows, but we all want to find out in upcoming chapters!
11126340
The day she truly becomes edumacated is the day she gets to fire one, and that day is coming quickly for her, Fortrakt and Giraldi.
11126344
Depends. Would he become Green Hulk, Grey Hulk, or Smart Hulk? Actually, given ponies probably know about nukes from their studies of humans, I’m sure they’ve got their magical sensors ready to scream if any radioactive material got smuggled through.
11126375
Understood. It was in the original story and I didn’t know it was wrong, but I’ve fixed it. I’ll save the rest of your list as well to make sure I remember and use it later. I certainly understand that kind of pet peeve. I have a similar one in poker to when people new to the game say “I call and raise you.” Just like here, those are two entirely different things. And if you say it, you’re forced to call because that was the first thing you said. Needless to say, new players typically only make that mistake once.
11126447
If you mean the Starship Troopers novel, no, I haven’t yet, but it’s on order. I just saw the movie and now I want to read the book, which people are telling me is a lot different and better.
Well, Marco was actually speaking for me here. I got some AR training from a former combat medic, and that’s what he told me to do. One question, though: what does administrative reload mean? I don’t think I’ve heard that term before.
11126456
Cooperation won’t be all that’s blooming! And the Cloven will find themselves strongly opposed by humans and griffies and some other races yet to be seen alike.
11126465
Thank you! Ending chapters with military quotations was something I got in the habit of over in the second book of my Firefly series, which is about the Great Pony/Gryphon War that’s been referenced repeatedly here. As we enter warfare in this story, I figured it was time to bring it in here as well.
11126477
That’s our George. They sure don’t make Generals like him anymore.
You know, I really need an epic narrator like Kyle Hebert did for DBZ for this story!
Thanks for the compliments! If you remember the original story, they didn’t actually have to go all the way to Aricia; they got rescued by a relief force from the city. Things will be a bit different here, but I’m not going to stray far from that. As to your other questions, you’ll just have to wait and see.
11126717
Awww yeah! Now the Cloven fuck up...
SENT IN THE BREEZEE'S
MU-HA-HAAA
11126708
It doesn’t matter too much, but the original series DemonEyesLaharl (if I spelled it right) was pulling from the Codex Alera series by Jim Butcher. Pretty solid too, especially since he wrote it on a dare but won several awards with it.
Starship Troopers is an interesting read though.
An admin reload is after combat or firing rounds, swapping a partially loaded mag out for a full one. The AR can be a bit stiff to put a full mag into if the bolt is forward/closed like if it already has a round chambered.
Awesome chapter.
We're slowly getting to the point where the story becomes an original and I'm really looking forward to it!
11126810
The Breezies?!? Whelp, the Cloven are fucked now!
11126817
I’ve heard other readers mention that name before. I did do a little research on them, and yeah, I see the resemblance. I’ll have a different origin than that for them, though, more in line with the verse.
So I’m told. When it arrives from Amazon, I’ll be finding out for myself.
Ah, gotcha. Thanks.
11126849
Thanks! I’ve been very pleased how well this was received, especially since I had some initial trepidation over it.
There’s already been a lot of original stuff added to it, but yeah, I know what you mean. Still some existing story to get through first, though, including a couple major battles! I don’t think readers would forgive me for skipping over them.
Another great chapter, I dont comment enough, but I seriously appreciate this story, I find myself returning to this site frequently hoping for an update!
This getting better and better. One complaint really, like any good story addict. Need. Moar.
I like how the divergent tech evolution explored. Circumstances like avian high mobility vs us humies being slow in comparison on ground really show why muskets not been explored much by or cat birb allies. Until now onwards.
I wonder what will happen soon. With such treath I'm sure equestria will allow more deadlier human hardware through the portal. Maybe not nukes ( yet ) but some jets and the like yes. Taking down those dragons will be critical as well able to strike fast and hard surface cloven hives.
Hack, call in some terran Battlecruisers for happy bug roasting hour, even if it's a different franchise.
what I wouldn't do to have them see modern aircraft, they'd eat there words so quickly.
11127865
They def would be impressed. That said, jets are like dragons. When your whole population is avian you still gonna have air supremacy due sheer numbers of millions.
Now penetration into enemy airspace and hit hard, jets.
Though these magical air defence fields level this out, if manage to fry a fighter or it's pilot ( normally not an issue as planes tend to shrug it off )
11127939
Even then the Sheilds in mlp can only really stand up for periods of time to magic used by single individuals such as low power anti-personell magic used by unicorns and the like even an anti-aircraft missile like a sidewinder would destroy it or peirce straight through, for dedicated air to ground munitions the shield might as well not even be a footnote.
Okay, all caught up. I admit, the gun-focused bits made my eyes glaze over a little, but that issue's on my end. in any case, the stakes have been firmly established, and there's a lot of ersatz Tyranids between our heroes and relative safety. And while bullets may outclass crossbow bolts in many respects, they're a decidedly nonrenewable resource out in the sticks of another world. This will get rough.
As such, looking forward to it!
11126375
Nothing wrong with a little overkill.
And when fighting the enemy--there's no such thing as giving them a little "overkill"...
...and that goes double for necromancers.
11128049
What's this "overkill" you speak of? This word is not in my dictionary. Only thing I know is that anything worth shooting once is worth shooting multiple times with all of the calibers, all at once.
11128049
I agree... Our Kind is hard to kill since we keep standing up depending if something was suppose to have been killed and actualy was killed...
11128055
Urdnot Wrex has a good line fitting you'r comment. Love Garrus and Javik once as well.
11128507
Eh, my view falls closer to the "life is expensive, ammo is cheap" side of things; so when in doubt, empty the mag.
11128508
Good Philosophy, i fully agree as long the ammo can be replaced at some point.
11128508
Only problem with that is, ammo ain’t been cheap lately!
11132952
True, a box of 9mm would pay for not only your kid's college tuition, but also your grandkid's tuition. Still, with the US's defense budget, we can make the case that ammo is still cheap
11133241
Yeah, but I’d still have to sign the check with an $800 pen. And besides, why bother buying it here? I can just go get whatever I need cheaply from the Taliban, now.
Are you planning to get a introduction of the Cubs soon? Perhaps you can keep the Mage Griffon alive even if bearly? The water and overall hygenic problems later on could need every mage they can get a Talon on. Besides some magic talk would be nice. Perchance that Mage can get a Mass Effect Pilot Joker personality or that of Garrus that is calibrating everything magicaly for peak efficiency
11137028
Funny how the Civilian have the stronger ammo at their disposal. Guess armor piercing ammunition isn't that cheap?
11140017
Next chapter.
An interesting idea. I’ll consider it. And all true.
I’m not familiar with the Mass Effect series, sorry.
Nope, and ongoing ammo shortages mean it’s hard to get hold of right now, too. But yes, civvies in the US are allowed to possess types of ammo (like hollow point) the military is not due to various agreements. Might seem backwards, but I don’t complain.
These 'Cloven' sound a bit like Tyranids in a sense
11162629
You’re not the first one to make the comparison. I’m told that DEL’s original inspiration for them was the Vord from the Codex Alera series by Jim Butcher. But not being familiar with that, I have to draw on what things I do know. So for myself, they’re a mix of the Flood from HALO (who can possess and reanimate corpses), the Grimm from RWBY (which hate life and take on the forms of it they wish to eradicate), and of course, the insectoid enemy from Starship Troopers given their hive mind. I think it still works.
11128040
Did I miss replying to this comment? It appears that I did. I’m sorry. Let me fix that.
Sorry about that. An info dump was necessary for Gilda’s sake if not so much the reader’s. I also wanted to use it as setup for the R-rated sequence there.
Indeed it will, though the Marines have plenty of ammo for now thanks to spamming storage gems. But even that won’t last forever, and whatever safety they find will only be temporary. As the griffies have said, you don’t want this fight against the Cloven to turn into a long war, because they will win any war of attrition pretty much by definition.
Thanks! I sincerely hope you’ve enjoyed the three additional chapters released since!
11127421
Picking up some old comments I haven’t replied to and found this one:
Thanks for commenting--even a simple attaboy is appreciated! And apologies for not replying earlier, which I try to be good about. You’ve had three updates since, and I very much hope you’ve enjoyed them!
11127547
I keep finding comments I failed to reply to, and this is one of them. My sincerest apologies. Let me fix that here:
If I’ve addicted you to this, then as far as I’m concerned, I’ve done my job as a writer! And you’ve had three more since, so hope you’ve continued to enjoy it!
Thanks. And exactly. As a flying race, guns wouldn’t give them any advantages over crossbows until the last century or so, so they would have had no reason to go through all the centuries of developing them that humans did.
The question has been considered and as readers are all but demanding it, you’ll get it to a degree. You’ll see in due course what men and materiel we manage to send through the portal and the arrangements made to get it all to the Kingdom.
Starship Troopers has and will continue to influence this story in more ways then one. I loved its mix of unabashedly R-rated gore and sexiness, so that’s what I’m more or less going for as the story moves forward.
Know the enemy & know your allies, otherwise you can't fight effectively...
