Hoooo, I've been waiting for this smackdown, and I can't wait to see his reaction to the full experiences of simple, unclassified stuff... I'd love to see one of the marines also try explaining to the Tribune that most of that shit that they used is, for the most part, available to the public. The sheer knowledge of other things that exist in Human society, culture, and war, and the description of such, would be absolutely crushing for the kingdom if captured by the cloven.
And even worse, if one of them remembered their high-school physics/science classes, the Cloven would have at least an understanding of the concept behind nuclear weaponry... That could put the cloven on the path of some spicy fireworks. And god only knows what they'd be able to add with some magic fuckery...
Uh-Oh. That means everyone will see Gilda and the Starshina 'do the nasty'. Things are about to get EXTREMELY awkward and tense. For Tribune Cipio, laying with a human is bad enough. When he finds out that the Centurion laid with an Ibex, this meeting is going go South like General Sherman.
11542630
Bless you, friend! I sorely needed this!
Well shit... mind-blowing to ribbons epic chapter.
The Tribune is nothing but a liability at this point...
Guess Cipio will learn what it is like to be a Eagless in war and lust & love.
If the next chapter don't show Cipio his fatal flaws, than he is best serving the Kingdom with a electrical arrow through his skull.
All i see in Cipio is a headstrong, prideful and absolutely incompetent high ranking officer inside, war times and any diplomatic dutys.
Will Cipio see it all? That will be one hell of a ride for him...
Will Gilda get to see Cipio side of the last day/s ?
Funny... Cipio attacks Gilda on her non Griffon mate, yet he indulge in it as well with Changelings i guess?
What a hypocrite.
This chapter was well worth it, pretty sure if the Griffon Queen read through their experience on both sides, she side with anyone but Cipio...

Love your channel on YouTube.
Indeed, the idea of flashbangs is known, but inagen the Cloven use Claymore mine like traps near their facilities. Making them even harder to destroy.
11542718
Unless he enjoys it to mutch... 👍
List of Cipios failures in this chapter:
- Ripping apart scroll of 'informations' not orders like Cipios are back than.
- Cipio uses forces that are not his to spend, of multible allied sides: Human & Changelings.
- He keeps disrespecting Humans & Changelings, foreign powers.
- Is unwillingly to give out praise or acknowledge and archivments unless he is profitable in them.
- Wrong assessment of: His on troops competence, that of all his alliance partners be it human, Dragon or Changelings.
- Keeps alienate all his allies: Human,Changeling and Dragon.
- Insult the ability to lead of a foreign Monarch to her face.
- Ignoring the facts confirmed by regular and special forces of Griffon and non Griffon Officers.
- Dismissing anything not fitting him outright or even after explanations are given.
- Repeatedly insulting others mate, knowing it's grave nature in his own culture.
- Deliberately avoiding undeniable demonstrations that would take away all foundations he keeps insisting on.
- Getting repeatedly proven wrong, yet still ignoring it out if hurt personal pride.
- Not following his given orders.
- Undermine all allied effort to satisfy his hurt personal pride.
- Ignoring all facts that can be proven by a simpel demonstration that he keeps putting off, knowing he be proven wrong in all points he triesto stand on.
- Keeps insulting allies and own forces because they don't side with him.
- Keeps ignoring hands/talon on experiences gained in field that keep weakening his own stand points.
- Admits given orders that could have broken the allied forces trust in their Griffon allies.
- Giving insults to even the strength of Alicorn levels of magic efficiency.
- Keeps taking the success of others, try it keep it for himself.
- Forcing his own military branches to disobedience out of necessity.
- Keeps trying to deceive foreign Monarch about intentions.
- Assuming authority he didn't wear
- Keeps insulting allies and a foreign Monarch sanity.
Would it be not war time Cipio would be removed.
Would it not be better to replace Cipio with a Changeling? The Queen would be a better commander of all forces overall.
Even if Cipio understand and accepts his wrong doings next chapter, he is irresponsible and cannot make up for his current displaced incompetent out of arrogance.
11542710
It’s true. Though I can’t own one myself, I’ve fired an M4A1 that the Marines use. And it is in fact legal to own machine guns as long as they’re from before 1987 and have a $200 tax stamp. Hell, you can even own flamethrowers and grenade launchers in most states. The only exception to the former is California.
True. It would give them some very ugly ideas for tactics and new soldier forms if nothing else.
Well, even if you understood how to make one, you’d still need to get your paws on some enriched Uranium or Plutonium, which wouldn’t exactly be easy. Those elements do exist in Tellus but are known under different names for having volatile and occasionally dangerous alchemic qualities. This is not, however, to say that Tellusian versions of WMD don’t exist. One has already been used in Firefly. Will any be used here by either side? Stay tuned.
11542718
Nice analogy. Yep, that’s what it means. Which will give Gilda a very good reason not to participate in order to protect herself and Karin Kazal. For given she doesn’t need to take part for him to see human weapons at work—there’s plenty of available memories through Fortrakt and Giraldi—what could Cipio possibly say or do that would force her to reveal that...?
11542917
Why thank you! If I’m holding your interest even without sex or battle scenes, that means I’m doing something right.
As long as he’s being stubborn and prideful to a fault, yes. But Gilda isn’t much better at this point, as the Queen pointed out.
Oh, he’s going to learn what it is to be an eagless, all right...
I really don’t think I’m spoiling anything to say that he’ll see the light at the end. It’s how it happens that is the fun part.
No, he’s actually quite competent. What he said was true—he did save the city during that frantic first day. But he’s willfully blind right now, because he doesn’t want to give an inch to Gilda if he can help it out of pride and a misplaced sense of honor. Having those are fine and even desirable, but not to the point of stubbornness or putting your rank and station above what’s best for the Kingdom.
Yes on both counts. And you might think a bit better of Cipio after the latter.
In due fairness, he didn’t know that she was a Changeling. That, too, will be addressed in the next chapter.
11542995
Can’t really argue with those for the most part. Well done in creating that list. I might steal part of that for next chapter. Don’t worry, I’ll credit you if I do.
An interesting thought. I agree she’d make a good commander, but there’d be real questions whether the griffons would obey her, given they have longstanding issues regarding Changelings in general and the Lepidoptes Hive in particular. They do not trust them, and historically, they have good reason not to. This distrust would only grow if it got out the Cloven were in fact related to Changelings.
You’ll forgive me if I don’t watch those videos given I don’t want spoilers for Star Wars: Rebels, which I still haven’t watched. However, I do love the character of Grand Admiral Thrawn. He was actually the inspiration for Prelate Salvio Gaius over in FIrefly—a brilliant but flawed military leader who at his best was nearly invincible but also had at least a couple exploitable blind spots or character defects.
All I will say to that is: we will see.
11542763
You’re very welcome! And more is on the way. Give me ten days to finish the climactic chapter—figuratively and literally! —of this mini story arc.
i could see Gilda backing down from this one ... because she missed the part with the Stingers killing the Dragon.
that would be an easy way out of the situation.
other than that? this was an amazing chapter!
Giraldi is perfect to be used to examine the memories of the last 1-2 days.
Giraldi witness Gildas actions and tactics and the humans firepower as he was most times besides the humans.
Especially in the last fight before they used summoning of the Ibex to evacuate the Stronghold under attack thanks to our two delivery birds.
The observation of the rocket laucher and the Terminator Minigun action should also show Cipio how bloody efficient their weapons are.
11543098
No, she didn’t. Did you miss this?
So it was mentioned, but it’s worth noting that they can’t demo those because they’ve only got two left. So the only real option to show them is via memory sharing.
Thanks! More is on the way, hopefully within ten days.
11543155
You’re absolutely correct. Even if he does have a couple slightly embarrassing moments of his own...
Agreed, but the question here might be whether that gets overshadowed by what else the Tribune sees. For that reason, it’s probably best for Gilda to simply decline participation in the memory sharing. But will she be able to...?
Well, I'm pretty satisfied by the outcome so far. Well deserved verbal punches all around.
11543421
Cool. That means I hit the mark I was aiming at. Glad you liked and thanks for checking in.
PS: Your latest Sunset avatar looks like she’s ready to fight the Cloven herself. I approve!
wow a amazing chapter.
so many wrongs on both sides and yet i see some one is going to be eating a shit load of crow in the end.
11547713
You called it! And thanks.
This is driving me crazy
Which version has the scene where Doc uses the shotgun. I swear to god that in either version I cant find it!
And I know the scene exists!
Someone save my sanity!
Monk
11548715
It does exist, in the original. It happened when the Diamond Dogs invaded the Aricia Inn the Marines and civilians were billeted at. You can find it here:
https://www.fimfiction.net/story/71623/19/feathered-heart/chapter-18
Note that the word ‘shotgun’ isn’t actually used there, but it’s heavily implied from the description that’s what Doc’s weapon is.
11549259
Thank you!
...Although it implies its not in your version. Why didn't you give Doc his 10 minutes of fame?
Monk
11549456
You’re welcome. I don’t know if you’ve read my version, but I’ll spoiler the answer in case you haven’t: Doc Cullen got plenty of face time in earlier chapters but didn’t come with them on the diplomatic ferry flight where the Cloven attacked. A second combat medic, Chief Jacobs, did so instead, but he’s armed with both a pistol and a standard Marine M4A1 rifle instead of a shotgun.
If it’s a shotgun you’re looking for, Tara wields one and used it to good effect in chapter 20, which was the opening battle with the Cloven. As for the original scene, I do plan to import it into the story later, if slightly modified.
Conflict of any kind is an important part of creating a compelling story.
As much as it's an important part of character development and its progress for the storyline itself.
It keeps things interesting, helps us empathize and grow strong attachment with the characters and their stories.
Sad how many Starwars movies after Disney and EA take over can't fill them out...
By simply trying to go over basics like that, it would helps to add depth and intrigue to the overall tone and themes of any mivie they make.
They could take this story for example and have a really amazing movie or four.
Instead we get more bullshit announcements today.
We live in disappointing times as far Starwars is concerning.
To bad we can't have half a competence as we read here.
Holy shit would the force awakens and other movies have dropkicked us from the watchers seat and let us climb instantly up for more...
What we're trying to convey within our stories themselves is what makes our readers come back again and again.
This story for example could be easy made into a movie and be extreamly successful.
Very sad what we probably never get movies like that for Starwars or existing big franchises by the universe owners anymore
Here is a list of questions on conflict and how it's used in stories like here in FIMfiction:
1. What is the central conflict?
2. What or who caused it?
3 How did it happen?
4. Why did it happen?
5. What needs to be done to fix it?
6. What helps and/or hinders the progress needed to fix it?
7. Are there any secondary conflicts?
8. What’s at stake?
9. Why are they at stake?
10. Why are they important for the readers?
11. How do the conflict and stakes affect the character and make the readers invested in the story?
12. How would they affect the themes of canon or this Fan work?
13. How do they match the tone of the show?
By having answer all of them especially for your best story currently running in my opinion that is deserving to be more often featured.
How they help to create an memorable, emotional, and compelling experience for us readers as well as help you convey what you want your story to tell us.
Thank you for all your efforts.
Have fun making more and have a magnificent day!
Happy Eastern. Do Griffon lay eggs?
11553397
Happy Easter to you! 🐇No, they do not. They may be part avian, but as their hindquarters are mammalian, that’s how they reproduce. If you want a race that lays eggs, check out the Changelings.
11553612
So we have only Birb-Cats no Cat-Birbs...
Because I could swear Rainbowdash will lay a egg, when she learns what Gilda managed 👍
11553612
could changeling queens put eggs in other species and have the eggs hatch inside the other and change into the race/species of the bearer befor hatching?
Coming soon to you:
Don't miss it
I can imagen that we might be able to sympathize with Cipio eventually, but his willingness to ignore facts and the truth that can be easily demonstrated still makes him a liability.
Even if he will show cooperation, he is merely a necessary evil for me. If Cipio survives the war or not is of no consequence to me
Cipio has no zap apple cider to blame on emotional outburst, what make Gildas restraint even with occasional support even more impressive.
Cipio is about to taste human passively let's hope he don't try woo Marco afterwards 🙏
I think I already have a good idea for the next chaptes soundtrack:
Very fitting that the main villains are parasitic in nature like the Cloven control parasitic threat.
Ah, that most frustrating part of negotiations, when the person you can’t stand does still have a valid point. Thank goodness for neutral third parties who can weigh in and remind everyone involved of the bits they don’t want to see.
Mind you, the Optio is still doing some impressive yoga given how far he’s crammed his head up his own rear end…
In any case, glad I’ve caught up. Looking forward to more.
11554617
This really isn’t that kind of story. I will simply say for now that certain questions of Changeling breeding will be answered along the way, including the ways they can incubate and protect their eggs. But keep in mind that incubation in this case means not just physically, but mentally since they feed in part on emotions.
11558134
Now *that’s* a game I would definitely go play! Pinkie with a minigun alone would be worth the price of it. On the other hand, guess I’ve always thought Twilight would be more of a sniper. Probably in large part because of stuff like this:
11569979
I think you’re going to be able to sympathize with him next chapter, if I’ve done my job writing it. That said, if he continues to ignore easily demonstrated facts, then yes, you would be right. But will he...?
Cipio is needed right now, simply because there’s nocreature else who could replace him right now. Or actually, there might be another with enough military knowledge and experience who could take over command of the city, but to do would present its own set of issues. Not the least of which is if she would be accepted in such a post.
Maybe not, but he does have a day worth of severe traumas and crises he endured, as you’ll see this weekend. You be the judge whether that mitigates his reaction to all this or not.
I don’t think you need to worry about that, and Marco wouldn’t be intereted anyway (the old guy he’s gay for at this point is Giraldi, or possibly Archon Archex). Cipio has a slightly different set of interests, as you’ll find out in the chapter past this coming one.
Interesting, but not quite the tone I’d be wanting to strike for the new chapter, given it’s going to be a lot of high-octane suspense and nearly continuous action, even as memory replays. I could think of another future chapter where I might be able to use that, though.
I’ll take your word for it, since I never saw that movie and only saw one or two episodes of the TV series that followed.
11574372
Thank the Griffon Ancestors and Changeling Hive Mother for Queen Lepidoptes, in other words.
I think you mean the Tribune?
Just in time, too, given I’m going to be releasing a big new chapter this weekend, as you saw on the latest blog. Look forward to hearing what you think!
Nope, Cipio is through. Literally suicidal willful neglecting levels of nope he is giving off for 2 chapter (this one and last one).
Even if I know his reasoning by now, by the end of the war I would have him kicked out the military for the military and political slender.
My recommendation, tone his unacceptable behavior slightly down or better yet...
Give him a good death towards the end of the war.
We usually don't pick on the dead, he further has his bloodline relative save with his cubs and wife.
Cipio is a liability and his tactical mind don't negate his failings. To make a example: He is like a starwars imperial Commander, well educated but otherwise absolute incompetent. Making it irrelevant how supposedly clever he is.
Cipio is simply to mutch written as unrelenting and incompetent, as in text book definition.
Cipio left 'good thing'
versus
Gilda right 'reasonable thing'
11542917
11543055
ohshit! Cipio will get no sooner get through the Night of the Poisoned War Movie before he's literally begging Marco to spear his own "nest"!
And you damned well know I'm going for the good stuff next chapter! See you tomorrow!
He literally slighted everyone not just Gilda by destroying everyone's battle reports.
That is not how war works, without the non-Griffon forces Cipio would be dead and the City would be lost.
There is willful ignorance and just stupidity.
No mentioning of Cipio ripping apart everyone's battle reports not just Gildas?
Who teach Cipio in his behavior?
There are copious amounts of room to spare to learn basic common sense alone.
Is he really that sleep deprived? Or is he really that incompetent towards everything outside his own actual chain of command
Are Changelings operating on a different magic system without traditional mana?
Griffon and Ibex use very different magic system both using mana.
Perhaps Changelings use another magic system using something else than mana or a different composition of mana.
