Well Shit... So mutch for a additional Mage to help them survive...
Damn... Infested Cubs Indeed they use all they can find as advantage vs the Griffons.
To they remember to take the Staff for Nydia?

Can we get some heavy flamers please or just a nod flame tank
May the unlife be triple done in in hellfire.
11151687
Beautyful
Nothing sound better but the burning of the enemy.
Nothing smells better than the remains of a burned target.
I wonder what properly cooked/grilled Griffon taste like
Edit:
I probably make a Pyromania joke in my Marksaline story for the sake of it. My Celestia burned more than one Diamond Dog until it was... A Hotdog
I am very confused how the Cloven don't react to the one by one disposing of their Infested bodys. Is there a special trigger? Perhaps the Body are to newly infested to be used. The Shelter was only a few hours old... Than again the parasite used freshly died Griffons from Gildas troops... Most intrieging.
Black Light is great to illuminate marked surfaces, but it is indeed bad to illuminate in general. Red light is ideal to preserve Night vision. Night vision is best.
I'm surprised they have termal lookglasses.
I wonder if one of the mothers is a mage by chance?

Welcome and enjoy!
Well, the Brotherhood doesn’t exist here, but you may yet get your wish.
11151671
If you think about it, they do have additional mages, and you’re going to be see them in action soon.
They have no shame and no boundaries. And they wage psychological warfare along with the physical kind.
You’ll get your answer next chapter.
11151691
This world’s Celly may well burn a few things before the story is done, too!
11151699
An infested body is nothing more than a puppet, and when it’s lost, the Cloven no more notice it than a tree noticing it lost a leaf. Once they have the contents of the body’s mind, there’s really no value of it to the Cloven except as disposable fodder or raw material to make soldier forms.
They can take over any corpse with an intact nervous system regardless of how long it’s been dead, whether it’s a minute or many days. That said, you don’t even know for sure that that the Cloven can’t take over living hosts.
Even if they weren’t issued thermals, they brought a few of their own. You can buy them on Amazon, you know. https://www.amazon.com/thermal-camera/s?k=thermal+camera
No, but there’s another three mages present you seem to have overlooked.
Damn that chapter was a wild ride.
I wonder why the cider effect is getting worse.
11151716
Because the power of hornyness is fueled by readers three realities away
11151716
Thanks, and the next chapter in a couple days will be even wilder!
As for the cider effect, there’s a reason, but you’ll have to wait a bit to find out what. Suffice it to say for now, it certainly plays a role, but it can’t be entirely blamed, either.
11151739
And authors!
11151748
Best educated guess, the pony magic of the thunder minefield above in the sky keeps creeping into the residue magic of the cider left in their bodies... Any griffins in the unit that were near the inn and inhaled some of that stuff??!!!
Hm... At what rank can Griffon use helmets? It is one of the most vital areas to protect after all. A hit to the body anywhere is often a afortable thing to tank, but a hit of any kind to the head is often the first step to the end.
11151768
Not a bad thought, but the lightning minefield is griffon magic, not pony magic. And the long-term effects of the cider on them are more due to the massive amount of it they had, so the ones who were outside the Inn that night only inhaling the fumes instead of ingesting bowl after bowl of it shouldn’t be anywhere near as affected. Which is not to say they couldn’t be quickly catalyzed by more exposure to it...
Explanations will be given later, but I do want it understood this isn’t just about sex. There will be some very combat-practical benefits to the potion-spiked cider remaining in them, which have already been hinted at in the last couple chapters of the story. You’ll see them demonstrated more overtly later. But the sex part will certainly remain prominent, and be explored a lot more in up to R-rated scenes here and M-rated ones over in Eros.

Actually, all griffon soldiers, even low-ranked ones, have helms of different types. They’re upgradable too, and I now realize I’ve neglected to mention them. I’ll have go back and fix that, but you basically start with simple leather and can end up with spartan-style steel eventually.
11151950
Griffon in Spartan 300 armor? ... Awesome
11152016
Well, minus the shaved chests and codpieces, yes.
Kudos to the Ibex for helping to break that seal!
Man, another bad-ass chapter. I can't wait to see how the battle of Bale progresses!
11152642
And that’s just the start of their help, and the first hint of what they can do.
You won’t have long to wait. Thanks again for all your prereads and feedback!
Well, that could’ve gone worse. Yes, there were some heavy costs, but lives saved are always a good thing… as long as Cloven parasites haven’t learned how to emulate living bodies, but I imagine the cellar would’ve been a lot messier.
Also, magic radiating UV raises some interesting questions for creatures whose visual range lies outside of what we consider visible. Now I’m wondering if changelings can see magic in this setting.
I’m also wondering how the lingering effects of the cider will keep manifesting. Head in the game, Gilda.
11153981
I don't believe magic radiates UV - Firesight established in Chapter 9 that magic use radiates in the IR (heat) spectrum ("The latter shone brightly to the heat-sensing camera, which was to be expected as magical nexuses like horns and staves tended to warm up when large amounts of magic were being cast.") The UV emitted by the blacklights is REFLECTING off of surfaces magically hidden from the human, griffon, etc. visible spectrum, and the reflection is
somehow creating a perceptible mirage in the near-visible end of the UV spectrum.ETA: Upon skimming Chapter 18 again, it appears that the UV is exciting magically-active surfaces (including magical area-of-effect bubbles) as if they contained fluorescent materials and causing a glow to appear.
11153981
We will have to see what abilities the Cloven may yet possess. But yes, you’re right, even with every possible precaution exercised, Gilda was still taking a chance there, and it could have gone far worse.
It’s not so much that magic emits UV so much as it simply fluoresces under it.
You will definitely find out. And she’s trying, believe me. But she may have to let go sooner rather than later to keep her head in that game, or it’s only going to get worse.
11154055
Well-observed and well-reasoned. That’s exactly it. Put simply, casting magic generates heat, while magic itself fluoresces under blacklights. Griffon magic is concentrated in their wings, so that’s what shows up when you shine a blacklight on them. If you had an Ibex disguised as a griffon, the blacklight would reveal it instantly as their true outline and especially their magically-charged horns would show up. That was the purpose of always checking Gilda and Fortrakt with them when they came inside the Inn.
11151691
Like roasted eagle & lion?
As often i re-read the story I get more the need of adding more background music while reading...
11151950
You still have to edit in helmets in the individual chapters, especially in the chapter with your Griffon military lore when personal armor is explained.
This chapter fit this entire song.
Pretty fancy magic use
But every action has a reaction, I doubt the slaying of ambush troops get unnoticed. Even if, breaking up that magic shelter will lure unwelcome guest to them.
Yet there is hope for them:
Wouldn't a ambush group getting dark alert the Cloven anyway?
I know I mentioned it before, though it might be that they are sleeping agents to be used to detect other refugees. But again, that should make their disposal a problem.
Unless the Overlord in question is so overworked on multiple frontlines he can't monitor them all...
