I probably should blog about this but I am currently suffering the effects of gall stones. There are other problems too but take it as granted that life is kicking my ass. But you're one of those amazing friends who are keeping my spirits up. With my other friends, family, and the assistance of modern medicine, I hope to be better than ever after these troubled times pass. Thank you for your friendship and may Eevee bless you.

I had no idea how mutch Gilda can rock verbally and daaamn... She sure give Cipio a run for his actions.
Once he understands what he potencialy hand over to the cloven, i can see him getting a shade paler or two.
Looking forward to the Eros chapter ♡
Happy to see this story is updated again!
Also happy to see Gilda finally explode and give her commander a piece of her mind for what his orders have done to her and her regiments!
Also:
Queen Lepidoptes, the 'negotiator'.

I’m really sorry. It seems like you can’t catch a break. Hopefully things will get quickly better once you finally get proper treatment. I really hope they don’t dawdle. And may the blessings of Glaceon float down upon you like new-fallen snow. When she’s not enjoying the perfect weather on top of Mount Washington, that is.
11502563
She’s sure gonna try! But don’t expect Cipio to surrender without a fight. Though arguably ignorant of human capabilities, he’s no idiot, and we have yet to see things from his point of view.
Oh, he’ll definitely turn a different shade next chapter when the Queen decides to make a certain point with him.
Appreciate the enthusiasm, but one thing at a time. Next up is Midnight Rising. Don’t have any immediate plans to work on Eros right away, but I do have an idea for a future series of chapters within it—another story arc of sorts similar to the one of the night of the cider, but on much different terms, potentially involving the Changelings and their need for love. But I’m still batting it around in my head right now, and I need to finish the existing arc first!
11502681
More like half a regiment in terms of the overall numbers she commanded, but yes. And giving him a piece of her mind will happen in the next chapter, after she and Marco have some needed... downtime.
Absolutely. She can be very persuasive when she wants to be. And she also has an uncanny knack for making her *ahem* business partners give her everything she wants.
Don't worry, a few hours in it and he'll be... Bacta normal.
11502823
My anticipation for the encounter between Gilda and Cipio is only tempered by the knowledge that the chapter has returned to the back burner of priorities. Hopefully the waiting will only temper the results and make the final product all the sweater.
I am a big fan of Schadenfreude when I feel it is deserved.
You know, I'm a huge advocate for sexual teasing so my face was grinning maliciously the whole time Ebon Umbreon got what he deserved for being a prude!
11503190
In that case, you’re going to love what happens next chapter.
11502985
Yeah, sorry about that. But my other stories need attention, too. I don’t know about the final product involving a sweater, but I’ll try to put Gilda in a hoodie before all is said and done in this story.
In that case, you’re going to love what happens next chapter. Because Gilda and Marco isn’t the only encounter planned.
The entire confession part of this chapter sits REALLY clumsy in this story. To read it is to basically have the author giving a long expose about how cheating isnt a bad or hurtful thing and that Marco is an asshole for feeling even the smallest bit blindsided or betrayed. I get its kind of a smut fic but cheating as a whole if its going to be a feature of the story should have more substance than:
"you are a wimp if you are mad she cheated"
"You are also not allowed to feel emasculated when seconds after finding out you were cheated on, people you trust ask your partner how good the other dick was"
"everyone fucks when they are stressed it doesnt mean anything and you dont have to tell anyone"
"but also my Ex was a bitch for cheating and not telling me (?)"
"No you dont need time to think about being told you were cheated on, sit down and apologise for reacting at all"
I think at least personally if I was Gilda and Marco ALONE there would have been some "oh, different cultures" shit, but to have Every. Single. Human from a seemingly western (if not our own country where relationships are typically monogamous and loyal) tell the dude whos really only fault was feeling hurt by a complete surprise affair (while in the middle of a war zone no less) that he was overreacting is just crazy.
Open relationships are their own thing but boundaries are important and when one is broken its OK for a person to feel hurt and even more so need to evaluate the new status quo. Instead Marco was 1. Assaulted 2. Threatened with losing another key relationship and 3. Gaslit into being a bad person for simply being hurt that one of his partners would out of the blue be with someone he personally still clearly has qualms about. That's not fair.
(Also ignoring the section I've quoted where it seems to be revealed that Gilda despite KNOWING she acted in a breach of trust, was going to "smack some sense" into the one person she felt she had wronged enough to apologize.)
Will the Griffins at some point see the humans use vehicles? Like as in Transport, AFVs, IFVs or maybe even a Main Battle Tank (Humvee, M2 Bradley, M1 Abrams, etc.)?
11503477
I see. As you're not the first person to complain about it, let's hear what you have to say.
With respect, you're missing the point. I'm saying that wartime isn't exactly conducive to being faithful and never has been, for the reasons given—that boundaries tend to break very easily when you're fighting for your life alongside others and taking turns saving them, not knowing if each new day or battle might be your last.
I have it on very good authority from actual combat vets that post-combat coitus (as well as its counterpart, pre-combat coitus), is a very real thing. And you can also bet I'm going to be drawing on both pre and post combat coitus as the basis for additional encounters as we go forward.
Nobody said that or even implied it. They're saying "you don't understand what happened and you're not listening, biting her head off when she's trying hard to do the right thing and be honest with you as a partner should." As for the smut fic aspect, it is a Gentlemanverse fic, which as a rule means multiple partners. If and when you read Eros, you'll see that Marco has already had them as well.
Again, that is not what's being said here at all. The Marines called it as they saw it and have experienced it in the past. If nothing else, think of it this way—they can't damn her for this without damning themselves, and they know it.
You're grossly oversimplifying it. "They are stressed" != "Saving each other from a fucking full grown dragon while charged up with cider after having abstained when she shouldn't have." Like Tara herself said:
What she said. All that's just a bit more than stressed, don't you think?
If he told her what happened but she didn't tell him after getting mad at him, then yes. That qualifies. I've clarified the section to say that.
Once again, that isn't what was said. Tara told him that there was no time for him to think about this more because the battle was still ongoing and there might well not BE any more time—that it was still quite possible they were all going to die. And that if he broke up with Gilda over this, when she was only trying to do the right thing, he'd be hurting her ability to command the battle and (by implication) endangering them all. None of that is false. And I wouldn't change a word of it.
This entire story is about differences in culture and trying to overcome them, feeling their way through a previously unknown kind of relationship while still retaining the ability to fight alongside and forgive each other in the middle of a war. I am sorry if this offended you, but I honestly think you're overreacting and reading a bunch of stuff into this that's just not there.
Well, life ain't fair. And war definitely ain't fair. For the record, I tried very hard to make this sequence realistic while still finding a resolution for it. I didn't have to do it there. Hell, I didn't have to do it all. But I wanted the decks cleared for the climactic combat section and big reveal. It wasn't just Gilda who needed to get it off her chest here so she could think clearly, after all. So did the author.
Open relationships/multiple partners are kind of a thing in the Gentlemanverse going back to its 2012 inception. So be warned that there will be more of it going forward. Both here, and especially over in Eros.
By which she meant she usually smacks someone who's being an idiot just in general, not Marco specifically. But very well. Since that's now rubbing me the wrong way too, I've removed it and replaced it as follows:
Anyway, that's my take on this. I apologize again if this was an issue for you, but I hope you at least see where I was trying to come from and why I wrote it the way I did. Be advised there are going to be more encounters and more issues stemming from them going forward, and you can bet that Marco is going to see this from the other side eventually. This story isn't a clopfest, but a combat fic with occasional clop. Even in the original Feathered Heart, Marco had multiple love interests that were never requited. That won't be the case here.
11503478
You’re not the first to ask, so I’ll give you the same answer I do everyone:
Heavy vehicles like tanks or fighter jets with large logistical tails cannot be deployed to the Kingdom, simply because there’d be no way to service and sustain them from a single point of entry (the portal) and a very long cross-ocean supply line that could only be attended at first by Tellusian modes of transportation.
Even assuming large vehicles could cross the portal (spoiler: they currently can’t), it would be very hard to get them into theatre (which is basically Europe) and harder still to get them the fuel, ammunition, and general maintenance they would need. Doubly so for things like aircraft, which would require airfields and runways that would have to be built completely from the ground up.
To sustain a modern military in the Kingdom, you’d have to basically stand up an entire logistics system starting from scratch. But even if that’s ultimately feasible, you can’t possibly do it in enough time for it to matter. Not when this war is going to be won or lost in the next few weeks.
But all that said... a limited deployment of some small but select units with light vehicles that have reduced logistical needs might be possible in the short term. It still wouldn’t be easy, though. You’d need an organizational expert with a penchant for planning to get them through the portal and move them quickly to Aresia. And to have the cooperation necessary to make it happen, they’d have to be trusted implicitly by all sides.
In other words, yes, I’m planning exactly that. But be warned that with the war barely a day old, it can’t happen right away. But happen it will, in time for the story climax...

As you actually did me the "honor" of reading and responding I'll give you a TLDR after writing my ramble;
(Preface, story good, you good writer, cheating is a difficult topic, grug go now )
_______________
TLDR: what happened is a core stepping block for the relationship and the members of this impromptu harem really need to sit down and define what they are and what they are comfortable with as we've seen Gilda knows what she did had the ability to hurt Marco and yet has open plans to do it again, if it comes up (and you've teased Marco doing the same).
[Plus as you've said you wanted the air cleared on this subject personally (afterall you salved me, I'm not the writer of an overall very good story), the best interpersonal way to do so is to set boundaries and allow the human a very important need to talk about emotions (without being hit or having to apologizing for overreacting; after all, she didn't have to do that, as far as Marco knows for now [has he had a cider flare yet?]).
Also pre-post combat coitus should not involve dereliction of duty
compliments: The internal dynamic is very interesting between the core 6 members and the interactions with cider even more so as it seems to emit as well, was also holding out hope that the laptop or phone [that wasn't charged but then was for a text but now also seems to have been forgotten?] would have information from the night of the cider to help pave some of the confusion and hurt but as you also teased that to be a future thing I'll get back to reading your military fic with a side of horny beaks.
Side TLDR question, what theoretically happens if a live human is stored in a gem and for that matter could they have brought a fully crewed combined arms force in their pockets? The patriot system would like to meet an elder dragon.

Long post:
Decent response addressing most my points, I will admit to being unfamiliar with the wider Gentleman verse having picked this story up and liked the characters enough to not want to stop "midway" and read them at an earlier point. As a disabled vet who is actually using VA vocational Rehab to go back for my masters in psychology to be a vet rep, maybe I missed it but I never saw any "field fuckin", at bases sure but everyone is always running pretty hot (was also a 14E and was never in direct line combat so *shrug*.)
It is in my opinion wrong for anyone aside from Gilda to kick herself over missing out on opportunities to be with her partners the last previous two opportunities. She was on duty and any wander off would have been a dereliction of duty possibly leading to worse things happening I.e the convoy not moving our or her not being at her post when the cloven attacked. That she overcame the cider in both of these cases was an impressive force of will; the issue with her shagging in a combat environment is that she was/is NEEDED, had she been caught by her own side giving in at any of these points, it would be expected for her to lose face and trust as a leader let alone however gryphons honor understands dereliction if she can be so easily distracted. Had she been caught mid coitus by an ENEMY force the results could be disastrous.
As for my take on cheating, the unfortunate matter of the fact is, Marco was surprised by this new relationship and hurt, ergo, his feelings are that he was cheated on. Writing a story for humans means these tripmine subjects can catch you off foot if not addressed (like Marco seems to be feeling). The fact you at least clarified some points is making me apologize (sorry for the long rant, thanks for addressing) but as I THINK? I'm catching up to the backlog, something that may be nice for certain readers (and the characters) is to SET those boundaries.
Case in point; Marco knows about the large open relation between the three humans, Gilda and two male gryphons. This is his acknowledged boundary based on the night of cider and built trust with these individuals. Any member within engaging outside that circle is reasonable to be shocked at as that goes beyond the scope of known interest. The part I'm concerned for Marco over is Gildas as oath that she will never again miss out on a deserved sexual partner. As far as it seems Marco is aware there is a intimate relationship between his closest peers and Gilda strayed once. Ignoring for a moment the deal with her confession it doesnt seem like he expects his inner circle to "sleep around" and without an adult conversation people are going to be hurt.
Different aside, I was ARMY, we have a tenet know as LDRSHIP (Loyalty Duty Respect Service Honor Integrity and Personal courage). I do not know what the MARINES operate under but I imagine it to not be that different. As you admitted these Marines have had personal failings but SHOULD have the Integrity and Courage to "damn others and ourselves" as it works two ways. You are not a sum of your failings but if you cheated on your partner these DESERVE to know and they DESERVE to be emotional that what they thought was a closed personal relationship was shared.

I think a Jeep with mounted MG for 50 Cal and a lot of ammo would be they highest thing the send realisticly.
A lot of ammo, fuel and a spare wheel of 4.

Still absolutely priceless
Ohhhhhoooh man, that was a great and strategic verbal beatdown directed towards the Tribune. I can't wait to see what the follow up will be.

(Me thank you for reading and liking! )
I always try to respond to my readers thoughtfully. So thank you for the equally long and thoughtful reply, which I will once again respond to point by point.
_______________
I don't think I'd call it a harem, since that implies that someone's in charge of it and calling all the shots, including choice of partners. But simply saying it's friends with benefits at this point seems a little too casual as well. Best description I can come up with is that they're a clique of close friends who were forced together via magical chicanery and find that they really don't regret it after, even if (aside from Fortrakt) they don't really remember it. If you have a name for *that*, I'm all ears.
That said, your point is well-taken that they do need to eventually sit down and define their boundaries. But with things moving at a breakneck pace and just trying to survive, there's been no chance. I promise that will change eventually.
Thanks, but I'm not sure what you mean by 'salved'?
He was having his own cider flare after Gilda's confession. Remember that it's harder for me to show that through Gilda's eyes. If you mean something that causes sex, that'll come—pun intended. As for the rest, yes, they need to talk, and they will. But everybody's got to get healed and rested first, and there's still a confrontation with Cipio to come.
I agree. And I also agree that you could certainly see what happened between her and her impromptu paramour as DoD if the Cloven had attacked again while it was happening. I'm getting around that by saying it was basically an answered prayer to her Ancestors, who gave her both a lover and the time to enjoy him when she desperately needed their aid to escape the dragon—on the condition that she adhere to her oath to not turn down a worthy partner.
Remember also that KK used a time dilation spell, turning five actual minutes into what felt like thirty for them in the confines of the cove. So they weren't gone for very long. Yeah, I'm rationalizing a bit, but that was honestly my thinking at the time—that she's experiencing a bit of divine favor there.
Allow me to offer up a Mea Culpa on the matter of the text, which I'll put behind spoiler tags for anyone who hasn't read the chapter: the original intent of the text was to set them up by rescue from Starlight herself, who I reasoned would detect Chris's active cellphone and their rough location, and then relay it to the Kingdom.
But as I was writing their arrival at Lake Languid, including mentioning the abandoned Changeling hive, it suddenly occurred to me—what if it's actually not abandoned? I realized then that the presence of Changelings would make far more sense as a means of rescue and explain everything, and result in a very dramatic reveal readers would likely love at the end. It also gave me a chance to reference my Firefly series, since this particular hive played a major role there.
All that said, the text is not forgotten, and remember it's only been about ten hours or so in story time since it was received. I plan to bring Glim-Glam directly into the story later, and I definitely intend to give her the chance to shine both in terms of magical ability and tactical skill. That's one piece of canon from the show I'll gladly incorporate.
As for the laptop... It might be a lot closer than you realize. Remember the parameters of the protective spells Glim-Glam cast on them (they're at the bottom of chapter 11 if you need your memory refreshed), and know that the ibex weren't actually able to get around them. And *that* means...
In the case of Tellusians, you can't put a live person in a gem because their internal magic wouldn't allow it. But a human, who doesn't (normally) have internal magic... huh. I'll have to mull that over for a bit.
Regarding the Patriot missile system, the same rationale for that applies to any attempt to bring human equipment across the portal which I've already explained here.
TLDR; you can't deploy any kind of large modern military unit or complex equipment in Tellus when you've only got a single, very thin supply line coming through the portal that has to cross an ocean (remember that Equestria is the US and Aresia is basically Europe) using only Tellusian modes of transport. So anything that does come across would have to have a small logistical footprint and be able to get into theater quickly using Tellusian modes of transportation only.
Funny you should mention "midway". That word will figure prominently in later chapters of Eros and end up being a huge turn on for our griffie friends. In any event, I do suggest you read that next while you're waiting for a new chapter of this. I have no idea if the clop will be up your alley, but you'll understand better how all this came to be and why things are the way they are right now.
<looks up 14E> Ah, so *that's* why you asked about the Patriot—you operated it! Nice. Thank you for your service, sir. And best of luck in getting your Masters degree. lh6.googleusercontent.com/Sc6b2T8_LhFHo2-dpZGMxVSl4iEvPONtGIMC8lBYa9HqabsmGrHOnUaZBefRA56KCCEj-Qv98H2-TG0Z21tmqy2ao-4YuJjrbamKcRUHRz9QiX0l1WlrMlqjZrNQErYHPmoxd2RMEhTCa-5FLkvP3Qk
Agreed, but again, you'll forgive me for handwaving this away by saying that by the grace of the gods (meaning her Ancestors), that wouldn't have happened here. In any event, yes, she showed great force of will, but the problem is that the effects of the cider are cumulative. The more she has due to combat or heightened emotions, and the more she goes without indulging it, the worse it gets, and repeatedly refraining leads to its own set of issues. It's a two-edged sword in that it sometimes dramatically enhances her combat abilities and ability to enjoy sex, but can also boost her emotions to dangerous levels and make her desire sex at bad times. Don't think she isn't aware of all this, and the others as well by now.
Oh, and... as for being caught? They were, as the next chapter will show.
So be it. And no problem about the rant. Setting boundaries will happen, with the caveat that they might be in some flux for a bit, given how new it all is. To say nothing of the presence of Changelings, as the latest chapter suggests.
Yes, I agree that's something she should tell him. And I doubt she mentioned it in her initial explanation of events to him, which I kind of glossed over.
Under extreme circumstances, but yes. There's also something else that happened there I haven't mentioned yet. What happened wasn't fully organic, to borrow a phrase. An explanation—more a revelation—will follow later.
Again, this seems a perfectly reasonable point. And again, they will have that talk in due course, but other matters take priority right now.
Full disclosure: I am not military. I tried to enter the Navy once only to fail quite painfully. But my interest in things military remain (especially WWII), and I respect the hell out of those who do it. As such, I can't really respond to this since I don't have the background to do so. But I stand by the fact that military service in general and war in particular is simply not conducive to fidelity.
Aside from that, the best I can offer you at this point is the news that The US Army will appear in the story later. And you can bet that there's going to be some (mostly) good-natured insults exchanged with the Marines along the way.
Anyway, that's all I've got. I’ll conclude by saying that I'm very sorry the opening part of that chapter caused problems you, but I at least hope that you enjoyed the combat action and grand reveal that followed. Thank you very much for the like, and I look forward to seeing you over on Eros.
11503828
Thanks! Just wait until he’s there in person and she can do it to his face!
11504430
Did actually read most of Eros chronologically as in all of it before moving to the wake up chapter. There are a few chapters and authors notes that hint to more chapters coming as they allude to thing I'm not sure featured?
So, shorter response time.
1. Salve means to literally apply a salve solution, think aloe Vera on a sun burn.
2. A lot of military equipment is designed to have range, obviously breakdowns, refuel and resupply are all mild issues and )especially in the case of the patriot which reloads by crane) not conductive to long deployment unsupplied. You very clearly do have an Idea where you are taking this but if you have a safe deploy/storage system. You could feasibly have the human bases bring out mechanized infantry (lighter but still armored units with transports that carry a great deal of munitions) that if they run a vehicle dry they simply pokeball it...not that I know what mechanized forces the marines train with other than lightly armored amphibs with awful safety statistics.
3. Fair points all around on romance (as there are KIND of two main pairings [with one being a threeway] the relation could be either FwB, open relationships or swingers, depending on how they want to label their *internal* bonds)
4. Think I see what you mean with the laptops and the hives, looking forward to the new diplomatic star and the burgeoning relatio- we never got to meet kaiko lover!
11504650
More chapters are definitely coming, including one in the next month. I estimate that there are 2-3 chapters remaining of the Night to Remember arc and accompanying viewing of the movie Midway. Hope you’ve enjoyed what you’ve read to this point. If you want to know what’s upcoming, follow my blog. I’m very good at keeping readers updated on what I’m working on/planning to work on and where I’m going with my stories.
With regards to Eros, I’m currently batting around ideas for another major story arc that takes place during the upcoming main story arc centered around interactions with the Changelings. Details here:
https://www.fimfiction.net/blog/1007632/a-milestone-for-feathered-hearts-eros-and-a-possible-future-story-arc
It was the context that was confusing me, but I think I get it now. You’re saying I more or less salved your concerns, I think.
No amphibs needed here. I do very much have an idea where I’m taking this and I don’t want to spoil it, except to say that I’m trying hard to keep this at least halfway grounded in the reality of the verse and use realistic rules. You can’t pokeball a tank or its support facilities, unfortunately. There is a mass limit to what storage gems can hold, and also restrictions to what can pass the portal in them.
That said, it might be possible to pass limited amounts of fuel and even a few spare vehicle parts in storage gems, but nothing major. Bottom line is that the trans-oceanic supply line from the portal in Equestria (which was said in earlier Gentleman for Mares story to be in the vicinity of Neighagra Falls) to Aresia remains very thin and you will have to prioritize what units/equipment can a) get into theatre quickly and b) function and fight with only very limited logistical support. That does not preclude certain light vehicles and even some special forces light attack craft, but I’m still working on the details.
In any event, this can’t happen instantly. First, Earth has to become aware of what’s happening and then all parties have to agree it’s in the best interests of humanity to help. Which it very much is, given that if the Cloven conquers Tellus, they’ll acquire the knowledge and magic of all races, meaning they could conceivably open new portals to Earth even if the original one is sealed. In other words, they have to understand that Earth is NOT safe from the Cloven, even if the original portal is closed.
Well, if you asked them, they probably wouldn’t be sure themselves right now. Things are still in flux, and complicated further by the war and presence of Changelings. Needless to say, navigating these waters is going to be tricky, both for them and the author. Here’s hoping we handle it well.
Then you can probably guess some of what may happen in future chapters, especially if they’re going to be in close proximity to the bugs for a bit.
Yeah, sorry about that. That’s the problem with writing the story this way, you know—making it only from Gilda’s perspective means you can’t see what’s happening except through her eyes, so if she’s not there to witness what’s happening in Arnau with Reyes and the rest of the Marines, readers can’t see it, either. But it’s the way the original story was written, so in homage, it’s the way this one is as well.
But Eros is another matter. I can use anyone’s perspective there, and I do plan some standalone chapters to show what happened/is happening with Reyes and Keiko, both the night of the cider and going forward. Hell, for as popular the idea of them was, I don’t think I could get away with not letting them be an item after all this!
11508241
As I said I was just voicing my thought, and tried to be respectable about it. there would need to be something much worse for me, to abandon the good story, and I really do like the story.
I guess it all boils down to the fact that for me, clop is always secondary, so I prefer it to have reason. Or at least to feel as a natural part of the chapter
11508241
I don’t see it as a dogpile. I could explain more, but I would ask that you read the response chain to his comment, where I laid out my full thinking and rationale in writing that scene.
Very sorry to hear it. And sorry as well to give you flashbacks. That certainly wasn’t my intention, needless to say.
Yeah, I could imagine. Maybe it’s best to just let it sit for a bit. I hope you at least liked the rest of it, including the big reveal.
11508263
You were definitely respectful, for which I thank you. Not everyone is.
And I’m sorry again that you feel it wasn’t. But I do ask that you wait a couple more chapters to learn something important about what happened there.
awesome chapter for a amazing story.

True. This is why Vader can’t use bacta to heal his burns or regenerate his lost limbs. His body can’t regenerate destroyed skin or appendages, so neither can the bacta. All it can really do for him is relieve the pain for a bit.
In fairness, they can use it to regenerate lost limbs since they’re part insect. But will it be the same for other races? Or will it work but take considerably longer? You’ll have to stay tuned for the answer.

Predator is one of the all-time classic Arnold movies. Who knows; maybe Marco’s got it on his laptop and can show it to the griffies.
His head may explode shortly, but not quite for that reason or in the way you think.
