Hyperaggressive Porridge

I write silly things.

T

Dave Smith, an unassuming firearm engineer signs up for a lucrative job, gets dumped in Equestria instead.

How far a pair of working hands and one semi-working head will get him? Nobody knows, but it's bound to get chaotic down the line.

Cautionary tale of why you don't leave your engineers unattended in parallel dimensions.

Note: I try to do fair bit of research to make sure that what I write is in line with laws of physics and such.
However, if you see a factual mistake, don't hesitate to tell me - I'll try and fix it, unless it's a deliberate artistic embellishment on my part.

Let’s see where this will go shall we.

Hope to see more soon.

So, what, no magic guns, then?

Oh hey, an explanation that isn't some millennia old plot for a three eternities old dude! Just random chance... Now I'm curious as to what the machine thing was for...

Technically magic in Equestria would be a part of physics, so magic guns are not out of the question. Although Dave will have to figure out a way around anti-magic property of his for that to happen, otherwise said guns would just be glorified paperweights in his hands. :rainbowlaugh:

Okay cool. If you have any question about any kinds of guns just asked me I know a lot about the.

This is a very good and unique start to an HiE story. Never have I seen an instance of a work accident leading to being spawned in Equestria.

The dialogue and the description of the work environment also stood out to me. Great job!

I havent read it yet, but THIS
THIS is what I'm looking for.

I bet she takes him seriously and makes them as thick as yellow pages.
i'm slightly disappointed with where he decided to make his workshop i thought he should make it next to a river so he can use A water wheel but i guess he can use a steam engine

But electricity and electrical appliances do exist in Equestria. It's mostly glossed over in the show, but you can see power dam in Mare Do Well episode as well as hear typical lightswitch noise every time light is turned on or off. I'm not even talking about minor details implying electricity, i.e. x-ray requiring some serious electrical input, giant TV screens in Manehattan, DJ turntable, laser shows and such.

Making synthetic rubber with a pocket knife.

10309608
that's true enough but he could have saved On the electricity bill too

Arn

10309695
Can you turn hedge apples into rubber?

So when will we see the next chapter?

10310144
sorry it's just that i often see you on the site

"Oh so these-" Dave motioned his head to suits on back seat "- egg heads must be nuclear physicists then."

When the engineer calls you an egghead, you know you are the nerd of nerds.

How about sugar from apples?

Apple Jack: What's wrong?
Apple Bloom: My teeth hurt..
Apple Jack: Well let's se...GOOD LORD! Granny. We're going to the dentist
Apple Bloom: Dentis...My teeth feel..
Apple Jack: No they don't... we you not to eat them sugar apples, fer your own good! Don't add lyin' to disobeying.

Arn

10311275
No.

If you can extract rubber from golden rods, surely you can extract sugar from apples because we know its there!

10311281
It's possible but goldenrod has more rubber for the weight so that's why tomas edison chose it

10311347
Oh wait you meant to get sugar out of apple probably like this

And by now, Dave itched to construct something - anything!

An engineer that actually builds something himself. Impossible

Having gone to college for mechanical engineering, and working professionally as a machinist for 15 years, I will keep my eye on this one.

If you want some professional consulting/opinion/questions, feel free to ask... Otherwise I generally don't read fanfictions unless they pass the 15k word count or are marked as complete.

10314456
Thank you for the offer!
Fact-checking, figuring how stuff is done and doing research to know where exactly the elusive 'technically possible' line lies are main time-sinks for this project.

10314862
Feel free to ask then, to maybe reduce the time

Hmmm, well now we know that the levitation field is bigger than most think and that magic spells. once complete, isn't effected (so far, that might depend on its 'pull' on ambient mana) ...

I'm looking forward to seeing what kind of projects he Starts.
I don't feel like he Vill make a gun At first. he must see how incompetent guards are at the wedding before he starts thinking about better weapons

I'm excited to see where this goes, I'm hoping to see him do a tony stark style display of his weapons

This chapter got me thinking about what it would be like to be a human in Equestria with regards to being researched about. I don't think I would mind it in general, in fact I think I'd enjoy it, except for what was mentioned in this chapter, when we get asked why we pick our noses. Yeah, that would be embarrassing.

I am looking forward to this with great interest!!!

I'm not the only one who can see and hear Dave as the Engineer from Team Fortress 2, am I?

Damn, this is a fantastic and satisfying read. I can't wait for more to come out.

Some sort of ww1 anti-tank or "recoilless" rifle?

A refined version of Pinkie's party cannon? Although confetti launched at Mach 5 would leave hellish paper cuts. Looking forward the more wild west handheld version, or a tommy gun.

Interesting chapter, and do I see a shipping interest in Fluttershy? Dave you scoundrel, what will Discord say later?

Hint: the helium plays important role in the gun.
Though in real world it's not used as a weapon, even though it's a gun. It's more of a testing apparatus used primarily in space-related research. :twistnerd:

Dave did some quick calculations in his head. No, just a gun wouldn't be enough. What would be enough, then?

The answer was, naturally, more gun .

ok so, he's literally the engineer.

10353855
It's even worse, since Dave is an avid FPS player, it's quite possible that he's preeeetty familiar with TF2.

Uhh , okay ?
Just don't make guns useless just because "magic"
Just add cold realism that bullet to the brain or heart is competent, efficient, precise enough

Because then what was the point of him being a gunsmith in the story in the first place?

10354260
You say it like that, but I think it makes the story even more interesting.
Average gun user would give up trying to apply firearms if they suddenly became (seemingly) useless.
A firearm engineer, on the other hand, would go full "Challenge Accepted!" mode.

10355876
He would need to create a kinetic gun, railgun and similar powered by magic (because of its quantity) but he is just a gunsmith

Also, most authors add the magic that just bullshits anything without any reason and precautions, rules, just to extend the conflict and to be here

For example, magic without a rules or that which just doesn't even try to make sense, realistic
Like a barrier, shield spell, you hit it with a fire spell , where all the energy, heat is dissipated into then?

You can't create energy from nothing or turn energy into nothing
