Rainbow Dash is the sports jock at Canterlot High, but she wouldn't have been so great had it not been for the inspiring figure in her life, NASCAR Legend Dale Earnhardt. When he died in that last lap crash of the 2001 Daytona 500, it destroyed her. Now, as the anniversary of his death approaches, she and Scootaloo reflect on how he made her into the person she is today.

R.I.P Dale we miss you
NASCAR has changed caise of all the safety restrictions placed in the sport. The 60s they had to wear fire suits cause of Fireball Roberts, Window nets in the 70s cause of Petty in Darlington, restrictor plates in 92 cause of Wallace, mandatory HANS devices actually because of Dale Sr. (He had a neck and spinal injury cause his head was jerked forward from hitting a concrete wall head on), Safer walls in 04 cause of driver deaths from crashes, and The Car Of Tomorrow (which no one liked till that pratice crash with Joey Logano at Charlotte). Sure NASCAR has died down a little cause of safety but it's still a popular sport.
Also as a personal note I'M actally named after a NASCAR driver from the glory days of the sport. My grandpa actually met him in person.
I also met Dick Trickle while I was on vacation. He stopped at my campsite while we were having a party.
I liked and favorited this as soon as i found it. RIP Dale Earnhardt. Thank you for writing this.
We'll always have Danica...
THANK YOU!!!!
As a South Carolinian, my favorite track is Darlington. I grew up a NASCAR fan thanks to my grandpa (my favorite driver was Rusty Wallace), and I cried when I found out Dale died... I was watching the race and I honestly thought he was going to be ok. NASCAR died when Dale died, and to this very day I always hold up three fingers on the third lap of the 500.

Same for me, I got in to NASCAR because of my grandpa.
I was only a month old when dale died I wished I could seen him in his hayday, also jj sucks
Somehow, I always imagined Applejack being more of a Dale Earnhardt fan, while Rainbow Dash would be more of a Jeff Gordon fan (probably due to that rainbow paint design). Heck, I can even imagine that Applejack's parents may have watched Dale Earnhardt racing back in the 80s and 90s, while Granny Smith might have a few interesting stories about meeting Richard Petty back in the day.
Me personally? My favorite driver from that era was Mark Martin.
When I was a child I has a run-in with Dale Earnhardt
