Put the words in the bag and nopony gets hurt

5 years ago...Chrysalis and her followers returned from exile.

What followers? I'm pretty sure that she run away alone and no one follows her.

5 years ago...Thorax was overthrown, personally executed by Chrysalis.

And no one object? If we put aside fan moaning about "New changelings sucks! Give us old one back!" and look objectively...
1) Thorax has a much nicer person in general. I'm pretty sure that Chrysalis operating by a rule that there are two opinions in the whole world: Her's and wrong one.
2) Thorax gives changelings a steady supply of food. They no longer need to scrap for food, impersonate, steal and so on. And what Chrysalis could give them? Her deliciously rotten personality?
3) Thorax gives changelings a chance to improve relationships with other races. Now they can be themselves and not being hated by everyone. And what Chrysalis want to do? "Hey! Let's conquer Equestria and show everyone that we assholes that need to be put down by other races! It's fun! If we lost there is a chance that they wiped us out just to be sure that we don't repeat this shit again!"

And when our troops, our main force, lifted their heads they saw that the sky had turned pitch black.

Where exactly she finds that many changelings? Again, I'm pretty sure that no one follows her after she runs.

While I understand all of the points you brought up, I, and so does this story, usually go by the fact that there are more than just the one Changeling Hive we’ve seen in the show. While Thorax did overthrow and banish Chrysalis and almost all changelings there joined him, we have no reason to assume that those are all the changelings.

Also, were it not for Starlight’s speech, most of the changelings probably never would have “embraced friendship”, thus not turning to “the good side” and away from Chrysalis. In a way, this isn’t just “A bad, evil Dictator against the lovable, nice guy from next doors”, but more so a conflict between old traditions and ways of the changelings, which Chrysalis symbolizes, and a new, more open and less hostile way of life, which Thorax symbolizes.

And no, there were changelings that did not support Chrysalis when she came back and took power again. However, Chrysalis turned all of her previous enemies onto her side when the Equestrians sent armed forces towards the hive in order to “secure the peace”, accidentally causing the exact opposite.

As to the last question: It pairs with what I said at the beginning, that there are multiple hives, each housing multiple thousand changelings, if not more. They are insect-like, after all.

Still, I very much appreciate your thoughts on this. This is all just a story and my own headcanon, after all, and you by all means do not need to support and/or like it.

Peace~

Problem is that new way so much superior to old ones. It's like "You could sit down, do nothing and receive six thousand dollars every month OR you could take your gun, knife and try to beat these guys downtown. But you still get less money and there a chance that they kick your ass or kill you". Yes, people who choose "second way" exist, no question. But I'm sure that majority choose "way one".

While Thorax did overthrow and banish Chrysalis

Um, no. No one banishes her. It's her own choice to run away. Basically everyone back then ready fo forgive her and give Chrysalis a second chance but she chose to reject the outstretched hoof.

and almost all changelings there joined him, we have no reason to assume that those are all the changelings.

And Thorax changelings chose to hoard new method of love generation all to themselves? Kinda hard to believe.

However, Chrysalis turned all of her previous enemies onto her side when the Equestrians sent armed forces towards the hive in order to “secure the peace”, accidentally causing the exact opposite.

And again I have a hard time to believe that Celestia would do something like that. Especially considering that she more or less stated that she leave new changelings to Thorax.

But again you the author. It's just... my disbelief refuse to be suspended :).

Yup! Different opinions. None can do

FIFTH!!!!!!!!!!!

Can I give you a preemptive like?

Why do you believe things would happen this way?

This story somewhat goes in line with another story of mine, The Fallen Monarch seeks Revenge, in which Chrysalis assembles the last remnants of unreformed changelings still left in Equestria to plot and eventually take back the throne.

This is pretty much what happened in this timeline. Chrysalis, with the few unreformed, supportive changelings left, returned to her Hive and, using her skills as a leader and talker (she was quite literally born a Queen, after all) she managed to rally plenty of the other changelings, overthrowing Thorax and taking back power.

I do get the criticism, however. I didn’t do a very good job at fleshing out the backstory and apologise for that. It’s a thing I noticed only after I finished the story, really. My bad. :unsuresweetie:

If there are other changeling hives, do you think Thorax would probably teach them his new way of living?

8466031
Quite possible. For this scenario, however, I assumed there was only one, main hive.

Your idea is also quite common though, that there are multiple hives.

8466038
But before you said you assumed there were multiple hives.

8466047
I did?

Oh. Yeah, I did. My bad, I’m not really myself today, haha :twilightblush:

*yawn* And then Alondro, the only guy around with a MASTERS DEGREE IN BIOLOGY, informs his brilliant and vengeful OC self-insert Helix Splice the means by which to create a poison gas which kills all changelings and leaves ponies unharmed, thanks to the show so conveniently handing me that weapon by making the changelings of such radically different biology and magic.

See, in REAL warfare, both sides are permitted to strategize.
