For well over a thousand years, now, they had been cast out, forced into a depressing life of solitude among only one another... which, given everything, did not make circumstances any more bearable, for them, most times.
No. No, they weren't cast out. Banished! They were imprisoned! Sealed away by that accursed Wizard and his lackies of five doing his bidding, as always! Their symphony had been perfect, a melody so harmonic and soothing it made only sense to keep listening. Their triumphant crescendo was upon Equestria, the final act in their grand serenade.
But that finale never came. Their final act... it was not to be. Or, so they thought.
Mortals were a curious bunch, in the end. Useless, petty and pathetic as one may call them, but they got a lot done in what little time they had for themselves. A new world, as it were, far different from the one the three of them had last seen, before the light of day was taken away from them in exchange for a dark prison so deep beneath the waves.
But one thing they all knew, to varying degrees: mortals were curious. And curiosity, be it as it were, would be the only thing they needed for their curtain call. The setting of the stage for a new, second act.
The Abyss calls.
This Story takes place in the Alternate Universe of Equestria at War. EaW uses a custom world map including 3 separate continents, and a 'modern' world setting equal to World War 2 (in most places). Consider trying out the mod for Hearts of Iron IV yourself, or check out the Fimfiction group and check out more stories about it.
For the purpose of this story, it's noteworthy that the Sirens were NOT banished to the EQG universe when Starswirl banished them, but were instead sealed away deep under the ocean.
Damn it Skystar. You have one job!
Incidentally, I find it hilarious that Violet Facade is totally right about there being danger, just not the kind she assumes.

As fate would have it, Skystar isn't quite down for the count just yet
Corny, but very in character. Gamer time!

Hey, when you're locked away for over a thousand years by some self-important, self-pronounced gigachad of a Wizard, you can afford some tropey, evil laughter, right?
Sonata is just too precious.
Hug the tacofishe.
She still has the Harmonists and Royalists – not exactly the biggest improvement, but it is something. Hopefully Nukefishe and High on Crack figure something out.
Useful tacofishe
There's no death tag, so I assume they won't completely destroy each other similar to this movie clip but it's surprising the sirens ability to make others kill each other is so under utilized in fics.
Is there a term for this? This concept seems familiar but I don't know what's it called. Sounds horrifying for their family members though, who for all they know their kind, gentle stallion got his brain swapped with a violent nut.
The trench is an Equestrian extremist factory.
How long before they stab each other in the back?

There's a valid and easy explanation for why the stories that depict the sirens rarely involve them making ponies kill each other while under their spell:
It's completely contradictory to what the sirens actually want and need.
The sirens feed off of negativity, such as outright hate. Their spell, besides allowing them to control the actions of ponies to a degree, also has the side effect of subconsciously making said victims irrationally angry and annoyed at everyone and everything. This is deliberate because it's effectively how the sirens "hunt and feed" if you want to read this as a national documentary on the sirens as a species. They sing, they cause hate and strife, and they feed off of that negativity they cause.
Dead people, on the other hand, can't really hate others. They can't feel annoyed and they can't annoy others either (once buried anyway, I guess the body might start stinking?). If anything the sirens actively try to make their victims SURVIVE, because dying is a net loss for them and gains them nothing in return.
I bet it's rather nice to live in her world without social media.
I'm curious as well. If everyone is angry and irrational, seems very easy to accidentally trigger some magical nuclear war of some sort. Especially in a world where literal gods exist.
Someone is going to do something stupid with those modern equipment in rage and cause a full blown war that even the sirens fail to control.
Also this scenario sounds sadly believable even without magic given certain events.
Now kiss.
Forming her own army in plain sight.
Completely expected.
I'm surprised it took them this long.
I was joking, but holy shit Sonata is trying to be Supreme leader.
Also I just imagine her playing with her tiny little subjects like a doll house.
The sirens, or this verse? 🤔
Are there any Equestria At War stories that use the Equestria Girls universe?
11329848
I don't think any Equestria at War story actively uses the Equestria Girls universe currently, i.e. uses mirror to go back and forth or something like that. There are stories that use Equestria Girls characters though, including the Shadowbolts and Sunset. Have a look around our group and maybe you'll find what you're looking for.

I wonder what happened to Sunset in this verse then.
11330885
EqG does still happen, just bar Rainbow Rocks.
Sunset does come back when Equestria goes to war (ha-ha, badum-tss) or as a general for Daybreaker if that ends up happening
11333493
They apparently removed Sunset from Daybreaker's general staff because "No, Sunset doesnt join the funny solar empire megalomaniac just because she has a sun theme going on with name and hair".
Cringe...
11333738
Agreed. That's so fucking cringe I don't even know how to describe it. The obvious retcon to make is "it's movie 1 sunset" and it would be completely in character. Hey, at least Pax Solaris fixes the devs' mistakes in nerfing SOL because Luna must be superior to Celestia in every way.
11333743
Devs on their way to say Sunset's canonically reformed and good. Meanwhile, Celestia and Luna have a battle royale as their evil tyrannical alter egos.
Ayup.
I’m sure you know this by now- or it was a typo- but Posada is a she :)
"Apart"s here should be "a part", apart means complete opposite of that.
11338369
I know but my brain always defaults to male for some reason. Probably because the name 'Posada' doesn't sound anything like a girl's name to me. Thanks for the pointer though.
11338449
Must have overlooked that, cheers.
That's even more morbid.
And now the show has begun.
You know, I can never really tell what goes on in Sonata's mind.
Sending Sonata was the smartest thing Adagio ever did.
I feel bad for Sonata.
Transformation central!
I can safely say that I respect Sonata and Aria.
It's Equestria at wars..... oh
