What was Starlight Glimmer thinking when Princess Twilight wanted to set a table and give a friendship lesson? There is a thin line between forgiveness and redemption, but a gulf between them and evil. Listen in as an uncensored Starlight deals with her past and wonders what redemption and friendship really means. Appearances are deceiving.

Spoilers for No Second Prances. Watching the episode hook first will enhance your experience.

The Starlight in this story is the one in The Enforcer and Her Blackmailers and The Forgiving Lesson. The Sunset Shimmer mentioned in the story first appeared in Enforcer. Reading those stories isn't a prerequisite to enjoying this story. The story was written to be stand-alone.

The best way I could describe her was overly differential

I think you meant "overly deferential."

7283816 Good catch. You get a star!

Finally you wrote something again! I was beginning to worry you have disappeared!
I sorta have the ambigous plan to read a lot of Season 6 fics in the upcoming mid-season hiatus and hope to get to yours.
Have you planned to write more?

Note that knowing Twilight's backstory from The Alicorn, the Lord, and the Katana (or Sisters in All but Blood for the more complete version) will add to the enjoyment of both this story and "The Enforcer and her Blackmailers". And if you've been reading these Starlight short stories and are still undecided on giving Enforcer a try, "Pins and Needles" works as a great showcase for many of Enforcer's themes, and two of its most important character interactions.

...the heartless soldier Starlight to join the contriving bitch Sunset and the runty professor Twilight.

I think you mean conniving. And nice to see that even after everything, empathy is still something that happens to other ponies for your Starlight.

I think you mean conniving.

I was hoping someone would notice, so you get a star, too.:yay:

No, I intentionally used the word contrive to describe someone who figures out odd solutions to problems. It describes the character that I am developing for Sunset in general as a reason that Celestia might have been interested in her as her protégé before Twilight. Think Macgyver and magic. It does explain the Twilight Crown Affair* as well Sunset's use of Starlight in my The Enforcer and Her Blackmailers and is coloring my depiction in a Sunset vehicle I'm working on now.

That said, it is usually a bad practice to throw in a word that breaks the reader out of the story. For this I am feeling circumspect. :unsuresweetie:

empathy is still something that happens to other ponies

Yes! Even in season 6 so far, for Starlight, empathy is relative. I depict it in glaring starkness in Chapter 12 and 13 of Enforcer when Starlight deals churlishly with a homeless stallion whilst remembering having chosen to live homeless in her past. It shows in S5E1&2. I see her as someone with great ethical standards but not an entirely good understanding how her ethics effect others. My novel is a good study in situational ethics and unintentional evil in trying to do good.

Well, you get a second star for giving me a chance to think all that out!

*Sorry, though it does seem like a good title for a story.

Have you planned to write more [season 6 related stories]?

Sadly, Equestria Daily dropped the Writers Training Ground feature. It's not so much the prompts as the deadline. I work (and write) best on a deadline, it seems.

That said, I am considering opening a group on FimFic to provide just that service, that is, both prompts and a week deadline for submission. I wonder if there is anypony out there I might discuss doing groups with, and whether it's a good idea?

Season 6 related fics and fics in general (except for EQG fics, I'd never ask for those :pinkiesick:).
Hmm, does this mean you want to give up writing pony fics, rather than working on getting it done without a deadline? That doesn't sound right. Don't let your talent and potential go to waste!

*raises hoof*

I'm admin of a group, so if you have a question, try asking. Maybe I can provide an answer.

The setup was ideal to getting my a— flank in gear. While I'm not jumping to write a season 6 reaction fic each week, I am writing. This one and The Enforcer before that, and one to explain why Sunset drank in the novel.

That doesn't sound right. Don't let your talent and potential go to waste!

You sound like a fan. You've warmed my heart. :fluttercry:

*raises hoof*

I will put together a plan and then pm you to discuss, with your permission.

Feel free to do that! It might just take a while, there are lot of things (and even obligations lately!) that keep me busy, so I can't guarantee an answer too soon.
