I've tried killswitch engage, bullet for my valentine, bring me the horizon and a few others. Personally I just like to stick with melodic death metal, industrial, heavy and power metal music. I could rattle off a dozen good metal bands off the top of my head.

I mostly listen to Finnish metal bands like amorphis.
5423654 I don't understand the popularity of them as compared to bands like Gojira and the Devin Townsend Project. Both make amazing music with amazing talent but they aren't as popular as bands like these. They have talent in their own right, but nothing compared to bands like Dimmu Borgir, DAATH, dEMOTIONAL, Fallujah, and such.

I haven't listened to many Norwegian metal bands, plus I usually don't listen to much black metal. Half the time I can't make out the growled lyrics.

You should check out Dimmu Borgir though. They exude a more diverse sound in their Black Metal. And the vocals aren't typical Black Metal vocals.
