I enjoyed this alot. I read the story as I listen to Piano Man in the back ground and it made it a really entertaining experience. I would like to see you pair off Spike with different females each one to different songs. I think that would be a great series that many would become entranced with. Keep up the great work.:moustache:

Okay, I can admit I was near tears during this, but it had comedy at just the right moments to cheer me up:raritywink:
I love the whole thing, including the lyrics. They fit the song properly, which most rewrites/parodies/versions would not. I mean that in way of syllables, as some versions would have to many or too little in certain spots that throw it off, but this is near perfect.

Woah. That was quite fantastic. Your version of "the piano man" is quite well done. Although I haven't heard the original, I did look up the lyrics. I think you did a fine job with this.

Thank you for your wonderful comment. It means a lot to me when people take notice of my work.

If it gets to a hundred likes, I may end up recording the song to music. I'll post it on YouTube. If it gets to a hundred likes that is...

4240526 you should. I would definately listen to it. If you end up making the song, can you comment on here to say it is up? I would love to hear it.

4240603
Will do. When, and if, the song is made, I'll post a link to it...

4239189 I did the same thing. Perfect mood.

This is really good. Like, really, really good.

“I didn't have time to write a short letter, so I wrote a long one instead.” -Mark Twain

That quote applies to story writing as well. It doesn't need to have over ten thousand words to make an impact on someone.
The writing is simply amazing, depth of characters as well, with the exception of Blueblood though.
All i can say is, thank you for this lovely read, hope you get those hundred likes, and may there be more stories like these in the future.

This was a brilliant story and it wasn't even too long. Perfect.
I must also thank you for giving me another song to add to my list of stuff :rainbowlaugh:

I did notice a few errors, that you can go ahead and fix.

and nearly about pass out

'to' belongs in there after about.

At another table sat a stallion simple known as the Doctor

simply* known

"Yeah, their at it again...politics."

they're*

repositioned herself out if Spike's view.

"out of"

He exchanged a smile with Crany

Cranky*
Also you spelled his name as Kranky, the first time so might wanna correct that or change the rest to K.

Oh and I got confused, sometimes due to dialogue placing.
Like so,

The Doctor turned to his wife astonished, "Ditsy? Are you..." The mare looked up at him and admitted, "Yes I'm pregnant. I was afraid to tell you, and..." A teary smile grew on her husband's face as he drew her in for a hug. "I love you Ditsy. I'm so so sorry." Ditsy smiled knowing that her husband wasn't mad at her, "It's okay Doctor. It's okay." The two shared a kiss as the piano grew louder.

Having two different speakers in one paragraph gets confusing, sometimes. Always a new paragraph for a new speaker :rainbowkiss:
There are a few more instances of mashing up speakers but I think just reading through it again you can find it and just separate them.

Thanks for this warming little story. Just what I needed for my evening

GG OP. GG. As a fan of Billy Joel i really liked this story.

Well that was brilliant. Well done, Draco.

4242730
Thank you for catching those mistakes. I'll be sure to go back and fix them...

4242810
Thank you, I don't hear that a lot.

Then again, this story is a lot better than my first, which needs to be nuked, and then rewritten from scratch.

I'm glad there's only a few grammar mistakes in "The Piano Drake".

4242837
Don't hear what? "You're welcome"? :rainbowhuh:

I'd suggest not nuking your first one, you know.
Re-write it, sure, but don't nuke the original. It's always nice to have that one thing where you first started so you can look back on it in a couple of months and think on where you started from.

But if you wanna go ahead and nuke it, hey, it's your fic :rainbowlaugh:

4243126
Yeah. Your the first person to say 'your welcome'...

It's nice in general, to get responses at all.

4243504

Yeah that's true. A response is always nice to get.

10/10 well done I hope you get the few mistakes fixed.
Also I think this is EqD material good luck if you submit.

Awesome fic, one of the best I've ever saw, the custom lyrics were simply FANTASTIC as the 9th doctor would say, keep up the great work, I cant wait to see more from you :pinkiehappy:

Like, favorita and follow :D

Play it again,

Play it again. (Skip to 3:30)

Awesome songfic!

I'm not exactly a fan on how Blueblood was portrayed here, but hey, you needed examples on the many shades of misery life entails.

I'm liking the idea that the heart ruby Spike gave was something he carved. In the show, wasn't it that he was going to simply have it as a snack? Having carved it himself adds a layer of sneakiness to his character that is quite amusing.

Perhaps posting a link in the story when Spike starts singing to The Piano Man on YouTube might not be a bad idea? Or maybe that's too much of a distraction? Fimfiction does provide some interesting immersion options that other fanfiction sites don't.

This Spike story somewhat reminded me of Bittersweet Music by DuncanR, a excellent lesson about the pursuit of love. Hell, it almost seemed like this was a bit of a continuation on Duncan's story. Spike seems to have found himself and grown. He's got an aura of confidence.

I saw what you did there... The Fire Ruby, Ginger-snap...

4246338

It was interesting how I came up with these...

The carved out fire ruby = I heard a youtuber make a comment about it (cause gems apparently aren't naturally heart shaped), so it sort of became my own head cannon.

Ginger Snap = I was at Panera ordering my meal when I saw this muffin labeled Apple Snap Crunch Delight. I could not resist, so I bought it, and I loved it. Anyway, the night I was writing the the story, someone gives me the Apple Snap muffin because they knew I liked it. At that moment I thought of the Doctor's obsession with being ginger (because "Doctor Who" was playing in the background), and Ditsy (Derpy) loves muffins. So: Ginger + Apple Snap = Ginger Snap...

I love writing...

Well...

OH MY GOODNESS!!!

It's reached over a hundred likes!

Now I must fulfill the promise I made in a comment in response to an earlier comment in the comment section...

I said I would make the song in the story, if it got to a hundred likes.

The song will be on the way, when there is time to make it...a link to the song will be added in the description upon its completion.

this story almost gave me a heart attack from all the feels! but it was totally worth it!

This story made me want to listen to piano man, now i cant stop playing over and over again... btw the story was good

Yeah...you got like number 128 out of me.
The redone lyrics were fantastic, and I actually sung them out loud (Quietly, since everyone here's asleep and my voice is shyte)
They way you described everyone, and how they reacted and felt before, during, and after the song was damned-near perfect.
I agree you should do more modded songfics like this one...maybe have each of the Mane 6 come into the bar for dfferent reasons, and have Spike play them each a different song.

My feels have died of d'awww overdose and gone to Shipping Heaven.

This. Was. Amazing. I loved the ponyfied Piano Man lyrics and the story itself was just amazing. This is 100% Rarity approved. :raritywink:

Teehee.
Blue Balls.
SING US A SONG...

This. This took all my feels and love and shipped them to Rarity and Spike. I applaud you for that. :pinkiesad2:

But now you've got everyone hooked on "Piano Man", think you could do a ponified version of "We didn't start the Fire"?

4254117

Maybe... I haven't heard that song yet (please don't shoot me for being uncultured). I can give it a try...

:moustache:

Why not just give a girl whose favorite song as of late is Piano Man and ponify it really really well? That certainly won't give her a heart attack.

Really though, I just somehow knew this was Piano Man related when I saw the title. And I enjoyed it.

One small issue: you're supposed to start a new paragraph each time the speaker changes.

ARRGH!:flutterrage:
I LITERALLY HAVE A PIANO MAN STORY THAT DOES ALMOST THE SAME THING SITTING IN MY UNPUBLISHED STORIES BOX!

Whatevs. It's been about two months since I last worked on it, anyways. :twilightblush:
Billy Joel makes for some interesting stories since his lyrics are so detailed and intriguing. You did a good job with modifying the lyrics (something I seem to struggle a bit with), and it's a decent story overall.

Good job, my dear sir!

I first saw this story a few hours after rewatching "Over a Barrel." I was just thinking about how Spike can play the piano and that I never see anything referencing that. Then I see this.

I really loved this story. It was well put together and had just a great mix of elements. Reminds me of why I like seeing Spike and Rarity paired up. Plus, it's based around one of my favorite songs. Great work.

4271468 There's a VinylxSpike story in which Spike plays a keyboard.

4273313 No need. I've got it right here. :raritywink:
Heart Invasion 101

Believe it or not, this is the pioneer for this ship. It was almost immediately featured, and the ship blew up for a couple days after. :rainbowderp: I only know 'cause the writer's a good friend of mine.

4273767
Thanks. It's certainly a ship I'd never heard about before. I'll make a point of reading it soon.

4279784 It's still a fairly new story, but he's apparently about to start on a writing spree, so hopefully that will have started by the time you read it. Lol.

Prince BlueBalls disowned by the royal family? Too Damn funny, Spikey can never hurt his lady, Knights Dragon Code.:raritywink:

4955469 I am a sir, and thank you for letting me know you enjoyed my story. It is always a pleasure to receive comments from readers.
