Dinky and Sparkler have the most awesome godmom in Equestria--that's right, me! Rainbow Dash. Being friends with their mom means I've spent a lot of time with them over the past few years. They're pretty cool kids.

But then ... well, Ditzy got sick. Like, really sick. I've been watching them for her, but if she doesn't get better soon, they may be staying with me for a lot longer than I thought.

That's okay, though: I'm Rainbow Dash. I can handle anything life throws at me.

Derpy has received some news from her adoptive parents, far out of Equestria, with little time to lose, lest she miss her chance to say goodbye, she heads over to talk to her daughter.

Yeah. I'm taking some liberties here.

Everypony is her own worst critic, but few take it to the extreme that Derpy does. Still, where friendship and magic abound, a helping hoof is never far away, if only she'll reach out and take it.

Moving across Equestria was not what Derpy had in mind for her senior year of school. She left all her friends behind just before Hearth's Warming, and found herself in a new school. Now she has to make new friends, as well as prepare herself for life outside school, a task complicated by a decision she makes during Winter Wrap-Up.

This is the story of a young pegasus stallion, or you specifically. After the passing of your mother, and your ever increasing distant father, your brother has never felt safe in the cloud home. Afraid of heights and normal life in Cloudsdale, you decide to abandon your former life to start a new one on the ground, in a town called Ponyville. While there you find a cute mare that runs the local post office who goes by the name of Ditzy Doo.

A series of moments from Derpy's life, most of them less than cheerful.

Once more again the Summer months have made their way around, and all of Ponyville will see the joyous times abound. The Harvest celebration is seen just 'bout every year, and every-time it comes along you'd hear the shout and cheer.

Yet, some were not invited, though, for fear of how they'd act, causing certain accidents from the carefulness they lacked.

That all changed one fateful day when a stranger came to town, and with nothin' but a snap he turned the whole world upside down. He wouldn't change it back until they passed a single test, a challenge to the lot of them to prove who was the best. Now every pony started lookin' 'round with certain fright, cause who among them there could even save them from this plight?

But a certain mare stood up real tall and stated with a grin, that she'd take his little challenge cause she's the best there'd ever been!

What if Twilight's destiny were different? What if it was not Princesshood she was bound for, but something else altogether?

I just want this to be known; I am not 'anti-Twilicorn' or anything. I don't mind her being an alicorn princess. But I admit this is a concept I would have liked better.

My alternative headcanon for Derpy - perhaps she's not "a few sandwiches short of a picnic" like we all thought! There's not much actual fear in the story. And no loathing at all. Misleading title — sorry.

This was written as flash fiction. Flash fiction is traditionally under 1000 words, but this site places a 1000 word minimum length on stories, so I've also included an epilogue, which fills out Derpy's story even more. (The epilogue can be seen as an optional extra - each chapter can be read as standalone story.)
